A fancy, club style interior welcomes the guest when first walking inside. On the outside everything looks high class. Underneath or better on the table you'll notice damaged tableware resting next to wasabi that's adopting the color of the adjacent ginger which in turn is as dry as the wasabi. The draft Kirin's crappy taste fits the picture perfect. Sake was ok. Talking sushi all dishes had the same weired aftertaste. Of all dishes beans and ham I liked most. I guess the cook usually works at a conventional restaurant. Overall, this sushi restaurant is excellent for quick diet. I lost about 2.5lbs at least within the next 18hrs. this is the most amazing experience.. it's a buffet but not your typical go serve yourself buffet. You order what you want from the menu on a tablet and it's made fresh and brought to you!! no one else is talking over it or breathing over it or putting it on their plate and then putting it back. It's straight from the kitchen to your plate for only 14€!!! The food here is very tasty and i'll be back the next time i'm in germany!! read more

All you can eat sushi for 14 euro this has to be too good to be true. That kind of price you can't beat when you eat as much as I do. The place looked nice and very comfortable. I really liked that you order on an iPad and that you can get 16 things to eat every 10 minutes. The food comes out quickly and many times you find yourself with so much food that you don't even see the table anymore. The selection of sushi I wasn't too crazy about. I am a sushi roll person and they have a few good ones but none that really will make me want to go back. I had just about a little bit of everything. Probably around 20 plates of anything I thought was appealing. From sushi rolls, noodles, chicken, spicy salad, mushrooms,salmon vegetables, you name it on the menu and there was a good chance I tried it. Now the lunch menu is smaller than the dinner menu but even after looking at the dinner menu I wasn't all that much impressed. I also had Green Tea ice cream after my meal which is free so make sure to ask for it! But it was a really refreshing ice cream. When we were trying to leave it took about 20 minutes for our bill to come and then they didn't even give me the right amount of change which I really didn't like. It's the 2nd time I've been to Okinii (invitation by friends from out of town), and it confirmed what I had experienced on the first visit: Okinii is Japanese-style food for the clueless masses who have no idea what Japanese food should taste like. The bad experience starts outside: walking up to the place, you're greeted by a foul stench which holds the middle between dishwashing steam, fish and stale frying fat. Not exactly a great welcome. The interior is spacious, stylish, well laid out, and the huge dark glass windows combined with dark furniture and subdued light give a good impression. Little do you know that it's all a ploy to conceal what's about to come. The biggest gimmick in this place is the ordering per iPad, which sounds like a great idea, but rapidly turns into confused hectic, as the touchscreen only seems to work half of the time, and similar items are shoved in totally separate categories. Ordering is done in 15 min windows, with a 10 item maximum per order round. Sounds reasonable, if it wasn't that the ordered goods arrive at the table in completely random and separate order. Imagine trying to have a relaxed meal with 4 people, scrambling to select within the allotted time, and then trying to figure out what is what, and belongs to who, as tiny separate plates are just dumped on the table by staff that doesn't seem to speak German or English. Once you get over the gimmick of the iPad, there's the service: Uninterested, unfriendly, chaotic, clueless. Those are the only words I can describe the staff with. And then the food itself: it's some of the worst food I've ever tasted. The fried stuff is incredibly greasy, and tastes like it's been made in old fat that wasn't up to the right temperature. The sushi is average. And I mean the bottom end of average. Some items we received had a distinct whiff of bleach or industrial cleaner to it (all for cleanliness, but not IN my food). The desserts are partially on the printed menu, with only limited items visible on the iPad. Some items were also blocked out. No fresh desserts available, only deep fried bananas or Raffaellos, which are sooo sickeningly sweet they might as well be advertised with an instant diabetes warning! The price does not justify AT ALL what we received. 26 € for what seems all you can eat, but rather should be labelled "all you can stand, or remember you ordered an hour ago". If you calculate everything together, you're way better off going to a real Japanese place. My review: Okinii is a highly overpriced gimmick for people who don't have a clue about food, and don't mind being ripped off, dazzled by trendy surroundings and semi-functional technology. We just had a great meal at okinii. It's on the ground floor of our hotel building and has a great atmosphere. The idea is that you can order up to 4 dishes per person per 20 minutes. You get an iPad to place your own order, which is helpful because it has pictures of all the dishes and allows you to see the countdown is when your next order can be placed. We just kept queuing our next order and then hitting "order" when the time came. It's all you can eat with good limits so you don't get ahead of yourself and so that the food keeps coming out fresh and at a good pace. It was perfect for our party. We ended with the delicious fried banana which was dusted with coconut and ouzu ice. So good! Out waitress was top notch- Mandalena. We had excellent service, which was great for us out of towners. I had a terrible experience at this place last time I went ( 15.06.15) ... and last really means never again! hirame was old and stinky, badly grilled outside and still raw inside and was smelling of bleach. fried food was simply disgusting: oil used to fry was probably old and not hot enough ... food was literally full of oil and still raw inside. even Avocado was old and fluffy. So happy with this restaurant! I've been to some of the best sushi restaurants in the US and was disappointed with the selection here in Cologne. A friend told me about Okinii, and I'm so glad we went. Atmosphere is spacious and modern. I wasn't too impressed with the concept of ordering with iPads, but it actually did make the service much more efficient and quick, with piping hot food ready and cooked just for you. Sushi selection is decent- they don't have impressive specialty rolls, but it still tastes good. I was honestly more impressed with the quality of the other dishes, which are usually mediocre afterthoughts at sushi buffets. Lamb cutlet, sashimi salad, and other appetizers were phenomenal! Baked banana is amazing- also pleasantly surprised. Have to pay about 3Euro for parking, which is a bummer. (Waiter suggested to get ticket validated at Rewe, but they have an hour maximum limit and 20 euro minimum). Okinii is also pricier than similar restaurants I've been to, but I still highly recommend. We paid about 60 Euro for two people. read more

Let me say that every time I leave okinii, I tell myself I will never go back. Somehow I/we end up back here every time. The sushi might not be the freshest of all fancy sushi bars but it's not bad, at least it doesn't feel like the pre made frozen sushi you get at some other all you can eat restaurants. And the decent selection of warm dishes, the fact that you get to choose how many portions of whatever thing you want and the hip atmosphere just top off this place. Vegetarians don't come n completely short with some options even for them. People who don't eat raw fish have plenty of yummy options too. Kids are happy with their plenty of kid friendly and kid sized portions! And fish lovers can get their fix. I have tried a handful of other places and this place over and over would be the place I take visitors to and where I would end up eating myself, even though it means spending a few extra bucks... As much as i have tried to dislike okinii, and even though I consider the quality as having gone down since its opening, it still ends up being my go to spot. Guess that speaks volumes. If traveling by car, the best deal is parking in the parking garage directly by okinii- do not park in front of the hotel in the loading zone ) unless you don't care about a parking ticket. read more

Have been coming to Koln the past 5 years for work. Just stumbled on this place. If you're looking for a break from Weinerschnitzl and pig knuckle, Okinii is a good spot. 25 Euro all you can eat. Price was a little steep for what I was planning and didn't expect all u can eat. But the Vietnamese bistro across the street was closed. This place had a cool system where you order everything from an iPad and they bring it right out. It's a pretty big place with a cool clean vibe. Seems great for large groups. Good range of sushi and grill on the menu. Will have to check it out again when we're back next year. read more

The location is modern and quite ok. You can order you food with a tablet device. The food especially the sushi is a joke. They didn't use Japanese sushi rice, only normal cheep rice. The quality of tuna fish was not good. It's discount sushi for high price. Psssst, the owner is chinese. read more

Overpriced and gimmicky. The food quality is mediocre. The service is quite bad, and overly reliant on a gimmicky ordering system based on tablets. The "all you can eat" is not really all you can eat because the system will only let you order 5 pieces at a time (even at the start) and you have to wait 15 minutes between placing orders. If you want to pay with a credit card, they charge an additional fee. Don't waste your money - there are other much better all you can eat places around. read more
