Had a GREAT lunch today at the Jardin D' Asie. Andy B. is right- This place is huge! They have a…read moredining area as you walk in the door to the right and left, a little hall way that opens up to another dining area in the back with a bar on the right. Then there is a beautiful staircase with foliage all the way up where there is another dining area. There are plants and flowers everywhere. While waiting on the food to come, you can try to figure out which is live and which is fake. (hard to do without touching it) This place is pure class. Dark gray tile on the floor. Dark brown wood chairs and tables, rich red paint with big, beautiful pictures on the wall and the wait staff all in black. Very classy. My waitress and everyone I encountered today spoke enough English to explain the menu and everything having to do with the restaurant experience. My starter today was a "Rouleaux de printemps" (5€) Spring roll, served cold with lettuce, carrot, noodles, peanut a hint of cilantro and mine had shrimp wrapped in rice paper. (They also had chicken and beef) It was served with a dipping suace made up of a very light, mild vinegar sauce. It was garnished with lettuce and a cut carrot- for extra fanciness. My entre was "Poulet Jardin d'Asie" (6.50€) which was chicken with peas, green beans, carrots, lettuce, baby corn, onion, peas, bamboo shoots in a yellow coconut curry sauce. It also came with fried or steamed rice. I chose the fried rice which had peas, carrot, egg and tiny chunks of chicken. They don't have low sodium soy sauce in France. Probably because their health care is free. :) So heads up American's: Bring that blood pressure medicine. After lunch, I had a Petite espresso with 1 giant lump of sugar and a super tiny chocolate chip cookie (which was yummy). It's also worth knowing that the bathrooms were private men and woman's bathrooms. Mine was spotless and decorated beautifully. I've included some great pics. Check them out. If you're in the area and craving Chinois- you are in for a treat with this restaurant! Delicious food, friendly wait staff that works incredibly hard to make sure you have a GREAT experience. Ambient music was agreeable, the french would say, but wouldn't have been out of place in a japanese shopping mall. The nems on every menu were the usual french fayre, and not very good IMHO, but the sushi and maki that followed war great. Possibly the best I've had in grenoble so far. My only real complaint was that the prices were a little steep, compared to similar restaurants in the area.

It was so crispy, yet the meat was still juicy. And it wasn't too heavy with the salad alongside it. The yakitori was okay in my opinion, I kind of wish the meat was more seasoned. The ebidon was also delicious and the broth was perfect for putting in the rice. The desserts were also great. The strawberry ice cream was addicting, and the hot dorayaki paired with the matcha ice cream was delicious. We wanted to come back, honestly mainly for the sashimi, but we ended up not doing it because we wanted to try other places out. But this was one of the highlights of our trip!

They were not able to make maki rolls so we ordered the wakami seaweed salad as a starter that was nice and light. For entrees, we ordered the Tanpopo complet beef curry with boiled egg and a miso ramen bata with added spicy white sesame oil. One side note: I liked the kick of the spicy oil, but since that particular ramen comes with butter, it felt a bit too oily. My recommendation is to only add spicy oil to ramen that doesn't come with butter :) I felt that both the curry and ramen dishes needed some salt. Luckily, this was easily remedied by a couple shakes of the salt shaker. Overall, we enjoyed our first lunch in Chamonix!
