Yum! I finally got to try Soline with a friend! I had a bouillabaisse with fennel and carrots,…read moreserved with rice and a side salad. A real side salad with multiple vegetables! And for dessert I had a piece of pear & almond tart - vegan and gluten free. It was all very good. My friend had a chickpea tajine that was a little spicy and served with couscous. I only had a taste but it certainly left me wanting more. I really like that this place exists and is so close to my house. I do wish they were open for evenings and weekends though. (They do serve dinner Monday - Friday but it's by reservation only.)

It's more of a cafeteria than a restaurant but that's ok. But the food is after all just nice and nothing one couldn't make at home. It might deserve four stars for veggie-deprived France but for more vegetarian-friendly countries (i.e. anywhere but France) it's a bit disappointing, it misses the twist and some innovation. The prices range from around ten Euros for a big salad to nineteen for a set menu that includes starter, main and dessert, which I find a bit steep for what you get. So like my star dilemma, not sure if I'll go back despite everything that it has going for it.

And finding a restaurant in Chamonix that offers something else is hard, especially without getting fussy and upscale. La Petite Kitchen is really good, emphasizing locavore eating and vegetables, and offering tasty, substantial, modernized, Brit-style breakfasts when you just can't face another pain au chocolate.

All items on the menu are very fresh and are made by a small kitchen staff. The food was good, a little pricey. Service was good but a little overworked since it is a busy place. The restaurant was very busy for the Wednesday night we ate here, nearly every table was full for every time slot. Yet many other restaurants in Cham were not busy. So La Petite is a very popular but small restaurant. If you are interested in coming to La Petite, please be sure you make reservations early in the evening as popular items on the menu sell out quickly. If you want to eat at a non-touristy real French Restaurant in Chamonix, I would recommend La Petite. Just be cautioned, you will not get hugh portions of cheese, dries meat and potato that Savoy specialty restaurants in Cham may provide. But what you do get is very fresh and very tasty.
