What a great little store! When a local pointed me in this direction for lunch the other day, I didn't know exactly what to expect, but I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of food and the wide selection of organic New Zealand products.
This is a slice of local history as this store is actually a "resurrection" of the original store from years ago. It has a 1960's retro feel to it, reminiscent of a simpler time in history.
Essentially, this is a combination restaurant and country store. There is a chalkboard located in the center of the place that lists the foods that they have available each day. If you need a visual, step over to the refrigerated case and you can see what some of the sandwiches look like before toasting.
There were three in our group and while I had an egg and ham bap(?) , others had a roast beef panini and a veggie wrap. All were made fresh and were very good with fresh pesto and soft, warm cheese oozing out.
Grab yourself some chips, and juice, soda or beer from the refrigerated cases and then step up to the counter to place your order for your sandwich or main. On the day I was there, in addition to the various sandwiches, they had a pasta bowl as well as a lasagne. They ring it up and you up an enjoy your food as takeout, or at the seating areas in the front or out back. They also serve fresh coffees and baked goods and have a full beer garden out back.
This place prides itself on being good to the environment so packaging is very earth friendly and they recycle their egg shells and things into the garden out back.
Lunch and drinks for the three of us ran about $60 and there is a large parking lot out front. If you need a restroom, there are compost toilets out back.
A delicious place for a break while you enjoy all that this area has to offer. read more
