My high school (Class of 1993 baby!) held a combined alumni picnic this Saturday at Charles Hadley Park and it was a great summer afternoon of reminiscing and adventure. By adventure I meant the summer monsoon that caught us at the beginning of the picnic when one of the 305's notorious summer storms hit and all of a sudden it was our senior summer of 1992 and Hurricane Andrew. Of course the afternoon recovered, and I got to socialize, try different catered dishes and catch up with an old crush. But since I'm not Mr. Hughes either, I'll get to some details about the park itself. Located right off NW 12th Avenue and next to both an elementary & middle school, it is accessible by the #12 bus route or reminisce on your P.E. class & take a 15-minute stroll from the Allapattah Metrorail station. You can also uber there, since the gravel parking lot can get packed during events. Street parking is also available, and for big events, sometimes the neighbors are out selling home-cookedfood. With the rainstorm mentioned, drainage of the park was pretty decent in that it didn't become a Woodstock-style mud pit. Inside the park, there are a few gravel walking paths, a public pool and football & basketball court. Part of the site also includes a senior center and day care buildings. At least for our event there were no direct in-park food concessions, but the organizers dealt with the City of Miami for food trucks and grills. We also rented a stage from the Parks Department.

This iconic Coconut Grove park was named in honor of David Thomas Kennedy (April 7, 1934 -…read moreSeptember 4, 2014). Kennedy was an attorney and politician who served as the Mayor of Miami from 1970 until 1973. Kennedy is credited with drafting the plans for the creation of Miami's Bicentennial Park which opened in 1976. David T. Kennedy Park is 20 acres and sits on the coastal mangrove shore of Biscayne Bay where there is access for kayaking and paddleboarding. Benches are set up so you can catch the sunrise and sunset and bay breeze. Park amenities include a dog park, open lawn, outdoor fitness equipment, picnic table, playground, and volleyball court. The expansive lawns, tree-lined walking paths, and a range of recreational facilities make this park a popular destination for locals and visitors alike. Also in the park is A.C.'s Icees frozen lemonade truck selling refreshing treats near the parking lot. This frosted lemonade stand has been a park land mark since 1978. Even on the weekend, the park is spacious enough to never feel crowded. If there is one drawback, it would be the lack of parking during peak use time. Overall, David T. Kennedy Park is a fantastic representation of the Miami Dade Park system by combining relaxation and recreation in one beautiful location. Whether you're visiting for a few hours or spending the day, the park provides a welcoming recreational space for outdoor activities and leisurely enjoyment.

The trail is mostly flat and sturdy ground and is a wide walking path. Folks like to take their dogs there so you'll likely encounter some while there! The trail is clean of litter and other major debris and is mostly shaded. It also runs pretty closely with the disc golf course. Amenities seen at the park: - Tennis and pickleball courts - Baseball field - Soccer field - Covered roller hockey rink - Park shelters with picnic tables - Air pumps for bikes and balls - Parking throughout the expanse of the park

This park is very dog friendly nearly everyone I encountered during my walk had at least 1 dog, all on leases. This is a very friendly park, nearly everyone I passed by had a friendly greeting. When I was there, I saw several sports teams practicing, as well as what appeared to be a CrossFit group working out. I went specifically for the walking trails, I had high expectations, they fell a little short. I expected more and longer trails. There were a lot of signs on the paths but most were very faded and you could barely read them. This park is great for families. If you live in the area and have children, I bet they are practices and games are held at this park.
