When I was 38 years old, I thought it was too late for martial art, but I was still looking for one as an alternative sport after retiring from tennis. I found a judo club nearby: Ojukan Judo. I then emailed the club and expressed my concern about my age, almost immediately got a reply from one of the teachers, Craig sensei, he told me that 90% of success in Judo is your attending, 38 year old man would not be a problem at all.
I showed up in the club on the Thursday of the same week and started learning Judo from that day. Almost 5 years have been gone by, I am so glad that I joined the club, I was looking just an alternative sport but I actually found one of the greatest communities I have ever been. Here at Ojukan I have met a large range of age, from a 5 years old kid to old people like me, and much older. I have met a 85 year old black belt on the practice mats. Here at Ojukan, I truly believe that Judo is for everyone, regardless of race, nationality, skin color, religious, age, gender, etc...
For having such a great environment and supportive community, I have to applaud the tireless effort from the club teachers who have given tremendous amount of help, who are always there to help you, who always patiently teach you the same movement that you have been doing wrong for about 1001 times, who are all amazing people that you will feel lucky that you have a chance to meet.
Contact the Ojukan club whenever you have a chance, they are on email, Facebook, Instagram, and phone. You will be glad that you do. read more
