I started hearing about them a couple of years ago, and finally went to my first game last night. It's in the Ohio Building on the fairgrounds, that weird round building in the center. Since this is flat track derby they basically taped out an oval on the floor. Seating was bleachers, a few folding chairs, and just sitting on the floor like you did in grade school. I definitely recommend coming early to grab a seat of some kind; 2-3 hours of sitting on concrete doesn't work for me anymore. It looked to be cash only; we got our tickets online, but had to pay for fairground parking and concessions so I blew through most of what I had. T-shirts, etc., were available and they did take cards for that. There's a flyer with brief rule explanations, and info on the players, teams, etc. It was hard to figure out what was going on at first, but watch a bit, read the flyer, and maybe search online for some guidelines. Once you have some idea what is going on it looks less like chaos. Basically, one skater tries to push past the other team and go all the way around the rink. The other players try to make a path for her, and block the other team. So. The game. Fan-freaking-tastic. Women skating around- and they can skate well- shoving and twisting and falling. They have pads, but jeez, you have to be sore after all that. We played a team from Toronto, and while both were good the Ohio Roller Girls were way better. Watching them pivot and slip by a wall of players while flying around on skates was impressive. One especially, The Smacktivist, seemed able to magically avoid or slip through any blocking. The announcer was good (though sound quality was iffy so I couldn't always tell what he was saying.) The fans were enthusiastic. The players were competitive. It was a blast to watch. I tried to talk Sweetie into trying out, but she passed. We had a great time.

We attended a double header for the first time as we've always wanted to see one. We were hoping…read morefor some action, yet the first game was pretty stale. The players would just stop and wait for the player to come back around... We rarely say the players make if 3/4 of the way around the track, which is where we were sitting. The second game was much more engaging! The players seemed to be more advanced and seemed to play the entire track. Overall, we may not go back unless there's is a reason to be there.

OSU you are making me very jealous of your campus' recreation centers!…read more Not only do you have the amazing and gorgeous RPAC, but you have satellite gyms on the north and south ends of campus? And they still rock HARD?! USC Lyon Center, please take notes. My one gym back in California can't even compare to JOS, our local, smaller gym that is big enough to get everything you need down. There are plenty of cardio machines, weights and even a newly finished basketball court in the back. All sporting equipment can easily be rented from the front desk. The hours here are also not too shabby, as I can just wake up early at 7 to go do my thing (not that I have yet, but soon enough!) I love this place, and although it's smaller than the RPAC, it still holds up very well on its own. Plus it's air conditioned! I don't think the one on north side can really compare. Work hard!

Very easy parking. There are meters on the adjacent street (I can't remember if coin or credit card based) and a small lot behind the building. There is not seating available and it is a bring your own chairs if you are there to watch someone. They have a fitness facility inside as well. I don't know about pricing as I was just a spectator. The tennis pros are very professional, courts are super clean and new. Each court has a PLAYSIGHT system which allows you to record yourself and analyze your game after your hitting sessions. There are 8 brand new indoor courts and 4 outdoor and also 6 pickleball outdoor courts. You can also practice different patterns with the help of it. The tennis club is also Pickleball friendly, it has a gym, ball machines and space for workout. I love the club and highly recommend to it others.

We were there for the playground, of course. Driving by one day, Baby K said "there's a playground!" I didn't see it from Greenlawn, and even driving through the park I couldn't find it, but she spotted it, and we spent an hour there. Actually, there are two, but the other one was overrun with crazed kids. The eastern one was only moderately busy, and everyone was well-behaved, so we stayed there. There's a big "umbrella" sunshade over it, and though there weren't any benches nearby for tired parents there were a few spots on the playset for me to sit. She loved it- slides, climbing areas, etc. Nearby is a building with concessions and bathrooms.

For in its 209 acres also exist another troupe of the movie--Berliner is also known for its ghosts. ( It is also known for something else--something that buzzed the newswires nationwide in 1997. That year the Columbus Police in a sting arrested 200 people including some well known men for indecent exposure in a sex ring. True story. But don't fear, today Berliner is a clean, streamline family park. ) Named after Lou Berliner, a prominent sportswriter who wrote for the Dispatch from 1931 to 1975, this is the largest ball diamond complex in the nation. The diamonds are fantastic for both baseball and softball ( must have a field permit to use.) They are permanently fenced and have turfed infields. Thousands of athletes use the park every year when local, state, and national soft and fast pitch events and games happen here. There are benches, restroom facility and concessions stands to serve the baseball crowds--build it and they will come. And so will ghosts. The long span of Berliner, of diamond upon diamonds, from Greenlawn to Frank is flanked on the west by the Scioto Greenway Trail on the levee over the river. This is where the reports of spirits from the dark beyond originate for here spooky anomalies are seen, sensed, or felt. The souls of poor people caught in the rivers damns and eddies who perished in the waters right there; the poltergeists of the murdered and dumped in the waters; dark secrets of 200-years and mysteries never solved and forgotten as mysteries and became a misty angst and despair; the voices of children laughing are heard, or two men whispering conspiracies down the river's bank but when you look there's no one to be found; a shadow following you its breath right on your neck but when you turn around there is a void of presence in the dark trail of the night. These are the stories they tell of the haunted trail here. One can easily see where they come from just by walking the trail. Secluded, wild but urban, unkept by tree and dark-green canopies, this section of the Greenway is creepy. You can tangibly feel the thick of evil, of fear, of pain, foreboding. It's the eeriest places in Columbus, even more than Walhalla Ravine.
