Unfortunately I was told that my appointment (which I had called earlier in the day for and was confirmed the time was fine) had to be pushed back about 1-2 hours because the staff had to go on a break(which I am not against btw) I understood that part but I didn't understand why they didn't think it would have been best to just tell me on the phone that they didn't have that time available instead of having me commute to the salon and be told in person. First time coming to this place, but it was recommended to me by a lot of my guy friends so I checked it out with my bf! He hasn't gotten a perm in a long time (because last time he did it, it turned out like Gujoonpyo--iykyk). So was a bit nervous coming. I called the day of in the morning and made reservations for 4:30pm. We were late by half an hour but they were very lenient and understanding. When we got there, they immediately gave him a gown and washed his hair--no waiting time. The place is, first of all, so spacious and beautifully designed. I was surprised bc from the outside it looked very small but it was a whole different world in there. The hair stylist was Jack and he was very fast and I could tell he knew what he was doing. He simply asked what we were looking for and he understood right away. My bfs hair was on the shorter side but he still made it work. Process was done in about 1.5hours. And in the meantime, I waited on the lounging area. I was getting kind of bored but one of the lady workers offered me a bottle of water and told me I can look around the store. They sold a bunch of random stuff like skincare products, hair accessories and earrings. They also have an eyelash extension area in the back (like I said, they're huge). The outcome was great and it was way better than I expected. Jack said the perm should last about 2months because his hair was on the shorter side and not to wash hair for 24hours, as expected. Reasonable prices for women's haircut. However!!!! Make sure you do not get your hair cut by the trainee guy. I showed him photos for reference (long swoopy curtain bangs, minimal layers) and HE DID NOT DELIVER. This was such a disappointing haircut. He gave me the most atrocious thin-out for my hair, wouldn't stop talking, and literally gave me layers and nothing like the photo. No curtain bangs for me. Saving grace was I left my hair long so I can cope but let me tell you, this was the most disappointing hair cut of my life. All staffs are very friendly. Haru totally ruined my hair and scalp. I asked for ash blond and it came out dark purple. (Bleached+ color).He told me he will remove the color right away, and the stuff he would use just take the color out but no damage on my hair. I had to do another heating. I guess either he did bleached hair again but he said no. So I assume it was a stain remover which is worse. He was keep convincing me my hair didnt get damage a lot. It was my first time visiting here because my usual place were not allowing magic straight perms yet. They had great reviews so I booked an appointment for magic straight and haircut. Magic straight came out subpar and haircut was a mess. I've been getting magic straight every 3-4 months for as long as I can remember so i have pretty good idea of how it should look. There is a part where it's not as straight which is not bad a bit annoying (shown in picture). As for haircut, I've gotten the most choppiest hair cut ever. When I was in the salon with my hair down and it wasn't that bad but when I tie my hair it looks like someone just cut it at home. I went back for the second time so that they can make it look more natural but he literally told me at the end of second visit that he's never done women's haircut and doesn't have long hair so he doesn't know how it should look. This was my first visit. My go-to salon was booked for the week so I figured I find something else on yelp. After a couple of failed calls to numerous salons, most were booked up to a month. I came across OHA and they were able to take me the same day! As soon as I walked in the door they took my temperature asked me to sign an agreement (TBH I didn't fully read it I was pretty elated to get a haircut lol). I waited about 10 mins before getting my hair washed, no biggie. The lady was friendly and the head massage at the end felt relaxing. I also noticed the stations were cleaned right after a customer leaves and of course all the staff and customers including myself had a mask on. Leo was my stylist. I love getting my hair done here by Anne and only by Anne. I've been going to her for a very long time and she never disappoints. To explain bottom half has been tormented by past over bleaching, putting colors, then bleaching AGAIN ( to almost silver ) then ... sadly I decided to make a stupid mistake of coloring it BLACK.... I know black out of all colors I had to do black. But I went in I wanted to bleach my hair again ( another mistake of mine ) but knowing Anne and her magical and meticulous work I knew she was the only one that will be touching my hair. Luckily half top of my hair is virgin hair healthy but I know it's extremely hard to make the bottom half of my hair match to the bleaching of my virgin hair but Anne did it ! as for the color there are no colors I have not tried but I was so indecisive I just asked Anne to pick a color bit nervous but I trust Anne with my hair 1000% so of course when the results showed I was so shocked and happy with the color, never realized olive like color would actually look decent on me lol. I always leave Anne to do my hair cause even without me having to explain to her again and again what I want she just catches it and does it and always comes out how I like actually exceeding the expectations of what I wanted. short version: Came on a recommendation because i was thinking of coloring my hair for the first time ever. I wanted a balayage like brown one jay did in oha's yelp photo. i showed sharon the stylist what i wanted. i did not get what i asked for. i like it i guess (perhaps a tad too orange? jury's still out) but it's definitely not what i asked for. i made an appointment for a friday early afternoon and the salon was practically empty. they explained it would be a 3 step process (coloring grays, bleaching, then cut as the 3rd?). the whole thing took 4.5 hrs (the long process was expected and not a problem). i also understood it would be expensive as i know my hair is very long and would take a lot of time and attention. the stylist sharon and the 3 people who rotated in and out to help were very quiet. the communication barrier (she spoke korean and presumably not much english?) didn't help but she could work on her bedside manner. no smiles, no curiosity about how i was feeling. while i dont need/want/like small talk, i think more explanation of steps as we went on would have been helpful, especially as someone who's never colored her hair before. though i didn't get what i wanted, i will say sharon was meticulous in what she did produce. the cut was good, but the color just wasn't right. read more

I am not a person who usually writes reviews, and I would give 0 star if there was 0 star option. I made reservation for my parents hair and make ups on my wedding day. My wife and I were busy with our stuff, so we decided to send our friend with them. They told us it was going to be $260 at the beginning. We gave money to our friend. But, On wedding they overcharged us and cut my fathers hair which WE DID NOT ASK FOR( my father already got a hair cut and dyed his hair two weeks ago). So my friend ended up paying her money as well. And the manager(Youjung Son? Yoojung son?) is rude as hell. She argued with me about what they did wrong. The other manager kept saying sorry, but she kept sighing and saying they were right or whatever. They ruined our wedding. I don't normally rate on Yelp unless I've had an exceptionally good/bad experience. OHA Hair Salon falls in the former category. When my friend first recommended this hair salon to me, I was skeptical for two reasons: I've never been able to find a good hair salon to cut my hair in a Korean hairstyle or handle Korean hair (which is naturally more thick and straight). In addition, it was far from where I was staying--the hair salon is located in Flushing, Queens and I'm based in Manhattan. But this hair salon is, in my opinion, worth every penny. When you first enter, you're greeted by a large, clean, and spacious area where a stylist offers to put your belongings away in a locker. Then an assistant washes your hair (I want to give her special recognition, she is a Latina woman working in an Asian business and works diligently--from massaging your scalp while washing your hair to assisting the hairdresser with my perm). Afterward, you get your hair cut and in my case, I got a perm with hi-tech equipment that is intended to minimize hair damaging. Every part of the experience was amazing, from being offered water/coffee/tea while I waited for the perm to set to having casual conversation with the hairdressers. Reasonably priced and worth every penny, this is now the hair salon I avow by. I love it so much that I came up to NYC (by taking a bus from DC), took the subway to flushing, and took an Uber to the salon just to get my haircut here. Thanks so much, OHA team! read more

There's honestly nothing she can't seem to do, and has a ton of great suggestions, which is great for anyone looking to try something new. Her attention to detail is second to none, which is why she seems to booked quite often. I recommend you call ahead to make sure you can get an appointment with her! I made an appointment with the owner Haru and when I got there I had a brief conversation of how I wanted my hair, mind you, I've already had the hairstyle I wanted I just needed to grow the length out more, TRIM the sides a bit and thin out the heavy top. After speaking with him and showing him multiple pictures of how I wanted my hair, he started cutting my hair. The end result was nothing even close to what I showed him. I UPLOADED PICTURES of how my hair was, what I wanted, and how it came out. YOU be the judge. The whole time, it felt rushed as if he didn't care. To add salt to the burn, he walked away to work on another client and had his inexperienced helper (the one that hands him the blow dryer and brushes the hair off your face) style my hair. He couldn't even finish the job himself. How could the helper style my hair if he had no idea what I wanted? He didn't see any pictures I showed Haru. Clearly, the hairstyle Haru cut was totally different from what I wanted. He even walked over when I was paying to make sure he got his tip. lol, ridiculous. Coming to this place was a complete waste of time, money and a huge headache. This was the first time I had such a TERRIBLE haircut. Stylist Jay did my ombre/balayage hair in ash brown and blonde perfectly! I didn't like the color I had before which was very orangy and unnatural. It seemed like he knew the exact shade to match different skin tones. He was up front about how the color will eventually fade with shampoo so he dyed it a little darker as it tends to fade out the ash tone and remain blonde. The entire process took about 3 hours exactly like he said. There was a complimentary color treatment so it took a little longer. I was also served with black coffee, some hot tea and desert since I was skipping lunch for this appointment (things women do for their hair!) All in all very satisfied with the result :) read more

I came here after reading such great reviews but i have to tell you i was disappointed. I came in early without an appointment. When i sat down i expected someone to greet me or ask what i would need. No one greeted me or looked at me for about 5 minutes. Are you serious? And i believe 'haru' was getting his hair done by his workers. This older lady finally approaches me and leads me to the chair. I believe just because i mightve looked a bit young they did not greet me. Whatever tho, just make my hair flawless. There was a kind young woman who was taking care of my hair. I asked her i wanted a cut and showed her how much in length, minutes later it was still long and she did not cut too much. I asked her if she could cut a little bit more. The next day i play with my hair to see which hairstyle i should pull off today, but i noticed how big of a difference one end of my hair is compared to the other end. Its a huge noticeable gap. I'll start with the reason why I wrote this long post. DO NOT DYE YOUR HAIR AT OHA HAIR SALON, especially if you want an ombre. SO NOT WORTH THE MONEY. I basically came again because last time Jason cut my hair really nicely. But for some reason, Jason was no longer working here.. I guess turnover rate is really high in hair industry. Anyways, I asked my designer I wanted ombre, almost dark brown on top of my hair near the roots and bright brown towards the bottom of my hair, with a tint of red/orange. I specifically told her I was changing my hair for my graduation which was in a month. First time she did it, it was horrifying... It was legit a red and yellow color block on my head... Nowhere near ombre. She did it again the second time, which was better but it wasn't what I wanted. I told her i didnt want my top to be bright because i didnt want my root to show when it grows in a month (since i have dark brown hair). She showed me a book with lots of different colors of hairs and i picked the one that was almost black... My hair is red. BRIGHT RED with light brown on the bottom. And you couldn't really tell it was an ombre because there wan't much visible difference in two colors. And it looked like she was trying to convince me that it was a very pretty color. But..... IT'S NOT WHAT I WANTED. And, the first time she dyed my hair, she forgot to dye my eyebrows which i asked her to do in the beginning. So disappointing. I didn't want to be rude so I didn't say much to her at the salon but I was really frustrated because i felt like a lab rat that was about to be experimented on (since it didnt look like she knew what she was doing). And i ended up paying $150 for the service which was more expensive than regular hair dye because it was "ombre," and $20 for tip because I felt bad not giving her any tip when she spent in total of 3 hours fixing what she did... (But seriously, imagine you having to sit on a chair for 3 hours when it should really cost you 1.5-2 hrs for hair dye). This is my first time ever leaving a review for a place and that's because I think some of fellow yelpers deserve to hear about my experience which was complete opposite of the good reviews you could find here. After several recommendations from friends and family, I decided to give this place a try. All the recommendation I received was for Haru but my mistake there it was, I didn't ask for him when I called in to make an appointment. I was thinking the outcome wouldnt be that much different between stylists. WRONG!! I went into get a perm and I was assigned with a female stylist, who didnt even bother to give me her name. I wanted the curls to be big and loose and showed her pictures of how I wanted my hair to be done. After looking through the pictures for maybe less than 10 seconds, she told me the curls wouldnt come out as big as I want it to be but she could make it just a bit tighter so I said that would be fine. When she started working on my hair, another girl, seems to be an assistant of the stylist, came up to help out. This is what I hated the most out of many other things. Two different person working on each side of my hair.. The assistant clearly didnt know what she was doning as she kept looking at how the stylist was winding my hair on the rods and asking the stylist if she was doing it right. The money I paid to get my hair done is not little and I expect only the exprienced stylist to do the main job that requires certain level of knowledge and skills as my hair is not for your practice!! When it came to time to wash my hair, the assistant took me to the washing station and another girl joined the group. Two girls started talking about their personal life when I'm uncomfortably laying down and listening to their non-stop conversation. They didnt even ask me if I was ok with the water temperature and of course they made sure that the water gets into my ears, eys and splashed all over my face. I've been to many other salons, both Korean and American operated, but this was by far the most unprofessional service I've ever received. I would have given them at leaset 2-3 stars if the outcome was anywhere close to my desired style but they seriously do not even deserve one star I'm giving them because Yelp does not have zero star option. The stylist didnt even fully dry nor styled my hair. When she said my hair was done, it was literally wet, water dripping wet. When she asked me if I'm satisfied with the outcome and I said I can't tell what the final outcome of this perm is as my hair is still wet and not styled. And she sighs,,and asks me "do you want me to fully dry your hair?" I mean, is this even a question a hair stylist should be asking her customer?? And again, my hair was still wet when she said my hair was done for the second time. When I told her I really don't like how the curls are so tight and how frizzy my hair is and she blamed my hair to be too damaged to get the curls I wanted which she did not mention from the beginning. If my hair was too damaged to get the curls, why did you not tell me this in the first place and even suggested to get my hair colored on top on the perm on my already damaged hair?? Honestly, I'm not even sure if there could have been a difference if I got my hair done from Haru considering how inexperienced and unprofessional his staffs were. I wish I had the name of the stylist who did my hair so I could warn you.. If you ever decide to give this place a try, ask for Haru specifically as others have good words for him. Finding a new hair salon is always really nerve-racking for me, so I stalled on making an appointment until my hair was on the verge of looking like a mullet. I booked with Jay because I had heard great things through acquaintances, and I was not disappointed. You're the best, Jay! :) I had to change the time of my appointment several times (so sorry), but I was still able to easily work out a convenient time to come in. The staff is so attentive, even placing a small towel over your eyes as they wash your hair to block out the ceiling lights. And the hair washing is more like a scalp massage! Mmmmm My hair is sort of unmanageable, frizzy, and wavy, but Jay amazingly finished cutting it in under an hour and I left feeling very confident with a sleek bob. They put you in this pretty robe while they service you, it just added to the overall experience! My shampoo was amazing! And my hairstylist knew exactly what I wanted. I've been to Oha several times in the last year- three times for a simple haircut and most recently for a cut and color. Would give a 3+ but will round up for 4 stars. Overall the salon is very nice, clean, and spacious. The people who greet you and answer the phones are very nice and speak English; the actual stylists usually don't and will ask someone from the desk to come translate. I think that's where some things can be lost in translation. In terms of haircuts I've always been satisfied. I've had different people every time- I wasn't told the names so the only person I remember is Haru, who I requested to dye my hair the last time. They take their time cutting your hair and pay attention to detail. Different people float around to wash hair and help blow dry- sometimes two people would be drying my hair at once and would be a little rough but no big deal. My main complaint would be with my last visit when I came in to dye my hair. I asked for an ombré look and showed a bunch of pictures of what I was looking for. I had come in with my hair dyed already and left without it looking very much different. Instead of streaks of highlights at the ends and framing my face like I wanted, I got a block of color one or two shades lighter than my natural color at the bottom half my hair. Two weeks later the colors faded and I can't see any difference. I paid $40 for the haircut and $90 for the color plus tip; next time I'll skip any attempts to dye my hair and just come for haircuts. Since the haircuts are good and cheap I'll be back. Pay in cash and you'll avoid getting charged tax. read more

It's been quite a while since my last review so I figure I'd update you on my experience of getting my hair cut twice a month for a year and half at Oha Hair Salon. Let me start by saying that I'm always tweaking my hair style.. every second or third time I get my hair cut. With that said, Haru (my hair stylist) has always been accommodating and patient. I feel like I would drive any other hair stylists crazy but I feel fortunate to have Haru as my mine. Every time Haru cuts my hair, he uses the handheld mirror to show me how it came out and always asks me if anything needs to be tweaked. I remember maybe two instances where I asked for my fade to be a bit shorter and he accommodated.. no questions asked. Everyone at Oha Hair Salon are warm and affable. I always feel very comfortable getting my hair cut there.. the before and after shampoo is pretty nice too. TIP: Tuesdays and Wednesdays are the least busiest days of the week so if you like having the salon somewhat to yourself like I do, aim for these days. read more

This is the first hair salon I've been to in over 10 years after being traumatized during my childhood by horrible haircuts in Flushing. Ever since then, I've only relied on barbershops for tapeups and shapeups and sort of creating my own styles as my hair grew out. It being the summertime, I was ready to try something new and different for once. I found OHA Hair Salon based on good reviews on yelp and it was conveniently located in Flushing, but not on Main St or Roosevelt like the typical salons. I showed up without an appointment and even though everyone on yelp seems to recommend "Haru", I just went with whoever they set me up with. They washed my hair before the haircut which took me by surprise but I found out later that it was the norm at these kind of places. I then went to have my hair cut by Sophia who was very nice and sweet. I showed her a picture of the haircut I wanted and she gave me her input before she began. The entire haircut never felt rushed and I found it interesting that she talked to me in Mandarin even though everyone else seemed to be Korean. She seemed to really know what she was doing with the clippers and scissors and all. I had a fantastic experience here. Jay cut my hair and he did exactly what I asked for. I was hesitant because I usually have a hair salon I go to back in Atlanta, and I really didn't want to get a haircut while I was visiting NY. I came here for the first time with my wife. I work a white collar job so needed something conservative. Service was excellent. There is a lot of attention to detail. For example while the stylist is cutting your hair, there is a lady who will brush away hair from your face. I had Jay as a stylist. This guy was a hair cutting genius watching him cut . A lot of confidence and skill, very speedy but at same time clearly took his time and made sure it got done right. Plus he will tell you what looks good and not - guy who has pride in his work. The place is clean - generally a sense of pride. One complaint was trying to find parking garage was a pain. As far as I know no dedicated parking lot. Price was reasonable for this type of place. Like $2 more expensive than sub image in flushing I believe. read more

I got an awesome hair cut here!!!!! man.. i am Korean but don't really get a haircut that Korean women usually get. I've tried japanse hair salon and another Korean one. well they gave me what i wanted but it wasn't as good as i thought it would be. today, i wanted to get like really a short hair, shaving all that kind stuff. but Jay suggested me something different but similar. i wasn't sure i should go for it. but i gave it a shot and it came out incredibly awesome! if you aren't sure what specific haircut you wanna get, ask them what you should do. they'll give a better idea as a professional hairstyle list. and I'm definitely coming back.
