One of the best places to view nice jewelry (but not the best priced!) if you're in town, this is like a museum and it's fun to browse. The sage and incense has gone up in price over the years, but still the cheapest in town, so buy the sage. I have had friendly customer service from a gal who worked here before but my past visit was followed around by the owner. I was the only one in the store and it was very visible/annoying. He did not welcome me in or asked if I needed help but every turn I made he was staring at me. I normally don't care to be honest but was very annoyed by this experience and now see this has happened to others too. Cortez Emporium on the same street has the best priced jewelry on the street. read more

Jeff is awesome! Great store filled with amazing treasures... Indian rugs... Pottery... Phenomenal jewelry... He knows everything about all of it! When I went there the last time I found a 1930s Papago basket with a beautiful fine weave, Anastasi pottery shards that were collected in the desert, and a gorgeous, kachina doll and that was just the first day. I spent hours there during my short trip. It's just refreshing to go into a business that has a knowledgeable owner. One that you can easily talk to knows what he has and you can lose yourself in the history and the beauty of the collections there. I can't wait to get back there. read more

If you are looking for shiny new things you might be disappointed when you first walk in here, because everything looks old. 'Cuz it is. But it's not junk! There are quality items aplenty here. The selection of Native American Old Pawn Jewelry is fantastic! I would estimate that there may be more here that all the other Prescott stores combined. If you're new to this type of jewelry you might be taken aback because Ogg's doesn't polish it before displaying it. Personally, I like that because I polish all my own sterling silver jewely, and wear much of it without a high polish. The store overall is just a little haggard inside. It looks like your average second hand store that isn't merchandised that well. It's mostly due to clutter, but that's alright. The service seems laid back, which I like. The woman who assisted me was friendly when I asked to see a few pieces. She also let me know that they get new stuff in all the time. I will definitely be checking back in. read more

I really enjoyed my time in this store. We were there at the end of August and there were not a lot of people on the streets. We were the only ones in this store. The owner sat in his office and let us look around without bothering us. There is all kinds of great stuff at all price points. I asked the owner a question and we all started talking. My wife and I both enjoyed the conversation and loved the information and history (including his. I work at UA). We had not bought anything at that point and felt no pressure to do so. We ended up buying a sample pack of natural wood incense. I have warm thought about the visit (no pun intended) whenever I burn one. I We went a little out of our way to stay in Prescott and I will do it again just to see if we can talk some more. read more

Ogg's Hogan is the real deal, and it's where I start and finish in Prescott! I've traveled from California a few times, specifically, to peruse Jeff's collection of quality artisan works. My sage advice--if you see something you like, buy it, as it likely won't be there when you come back. I've learned the hard way. Jeff Ogg is as much a historian as a trader, and his depth of knowledge and tactile experience is a rare find these days. Jeff deals in traditional ways, face-to-face, and only with quality, authentic one-of-a-kind weavings, handmade silver, and leatherwork. Ogg's Hogan's collection of historical material culture is extensive and worthy of museum status (but without the "hands-off" museum experience). Best of all, his inventory is not overly shiny and prettied up--it's raw and as-found, in all the best possible ways. I want to feel the maker's soul when I acquire a piece, and you definitely do here. Jeff is not going to be a hard salesperson. He'll sit back and let you roam. And if you're lucky enough to be around when "the men" are in the back with him, you may overhear some great storytelling. I rarely write reviews but felt compelled to in this case because, in our current consumer-based world, it is so damn refreshing to find a guy like Jeff, and a shop like Ogg's Hogan. There is absolutely nothing pushy here. His prices are fair, so go and enjoy. Don't let the streetside facade fool you. A better selection of native jewelry would be hard to find anywhere, and the prices are reasonable. You can't beat the museum experience of Ogg's, and it's easy to see why native jewelry enthusiasts from all over the world come here to shop. I live in Prescott, but make a trip down to the shops on Cortez Street now and then. When we have family visit, it's also one of the places always on our itinerary. However, we skip Ogg's Hogan. I have only been in that store one time, and the owner was so rude and unfriendly that I left and never returned. We just move on down the street and spend our money elsewhere. read more

In order to make a huge counter-argument to the previous review, I would like to state that Jeff Ogg is the ONLY person I trust to deal with any kind of southwestern artifacts, be it Indian or otherwise. Being the son of one of Arizona's great jurists, he is honest, trustworthy, and always willing to work with the buyer or the seller. His expertise is of the highest order. If you need hand-holding, then yeah, he might not be your guy. If you need someone who knows southwest artifacts and antiquities and someone you can trust is working directly with the native American artists (rather than middle-men who cheat the artists), then Jeff is your guy. Best place to find vintage Navajo and Zuni Native American turquoise jewelry probably in all of Phoenix. Jeff and Robin are so gracious and kind and very helpful when it comes to finding something that works. Jeff is always out sourcing unique and interesting pieces from reservations in and around Arizona and has a great collection of artifacts and knowledge that extends beyond just jewelry. And if you're looking for something specific, just ask. He will take your name down and keep an eye out to source it for you specifically if you're serious. Though we are from Indiana, my wife and I have traveled the West extensively for years. Becky is the consummate shopper. I'm a man on mission with pretty selective standards before I cross a threshold. Ogg's Hogan raised every bar I've ever had for "my kind of place." We love Prescott for lots of reasons. Ogg's Hogan represents all of the reasons why. My love for the West is likely connected to its power to trigger the best of childhood memories and little boy imagination. Ogg's Hogan "caught" me from across Cortez Street, drew me in with the promise of their storefront window, and won the day from the moment I crossed the threshold. I found no shortcuts through the store. Every shelf and showcase earned some time. Jeff was incredibly welcoming to me, even opening up his private collections to me. I want the real thing. This shop is filled with it. I walked out with several of the memory makers and fantastic pieces of history. It's hard to make my showcase and living room displays, but this shop pushed some pieces into the frontline and center of my best artifacts and books. My visit to Ogg's let me take some of Old AZ back to my Indiana home. Whatever draws you to a Prescott-type environment, Ogg's Hogan is a sure bet to help you experience it to the full. Jeff and Robin are some of the nicest people I have had the pleasure of meeting in Prescott. Jeff was great about answering our questions and taking the time to educate us on Indian jewelry and what to look for. Their prices are about 1/2 of what you will find online and he has some amazing vintage and pawnshop pieces. If your looking for that one piece to compliment your collection then you really need to take some time and visit this place. This is one of my favorite places to visit. If 0 stars is what I could rate this place I would. I've never been to a place in Prescott where the owners were so incredibly rude. Anyone in Prescott knows being down right rude does not fly here so I was very shocked, typically locals are very friendly and that is what you can expect here but not at this place. We had family that was visiting from out of town and were so excited to get some local arrow heads. The owner would not speak to us and purposely neglected to shake one of my family members hands. If you're not interested in selling the pieces that are in your shop, don't have them there or don't have a shop. Will never step foot in there again. read more

And there's the museum - an amazing display of the private collection of prehistoric artifacts. Items range in price from several dollars, to several thousand dollars - the finest quality and something for everyone. The staff are helpful and courteous, and the owner, anthropologist/Indian trader Jeff Ogg, is extremely knowledgeable and when time allows, hearing about the history of the area, Native American cultural materials and traditions, his adventures buying for the Fred Harvey Company etc., and collecting rattlesnake eggs, is always great fun. This place is by far the nicest shop in town and probably the southwest that I've been to. The owner Jeff is an amazing person that is so full of knowledge and kindness that I never want to leave every time I come here. The selection is so wide and in depth that you can find almost anything you'd want from old squash blossom necklaces and Navajo jewelry from the early days to prehistoric anasazi and ancestral Puebloan pottery and items. The baskets and native weaving will leave your jaw on the ground and the conversations with Jeff with leave you in awe at a man who knows so much about this stuff that most academics could ask him for advice. It's just a magical place and if I could camp out here for a weekend I don't think I'd ever be bored. After reading some of the bad reviews I was left confused because Jeff is attentive and always wants to help and answer any questions so he checks on customers as they peruse the huge inventory, but some people's claims they are being followed In my opinion is a manifestation of their own intentions because I've never heard Jeff Talk ill about anyone, he's more like a super cool professor that you'd want to get a beer with after class just to pick his brain. This is a stop for me and my family every time we come to town because you feel like family when your here and will continue to be so for as long as this amazing place is around. spent a weekend in prescott with my parents and younger highschool age brother for the 3 day weekend. Walked into the store with my parents, my father was looking to buy a Bolo Tie. while he sat down to view some of their bolo ties, I decided to take a look around at what all they had in the store, only to emmediatly Be stalked by an employee. An Older gentleman. I was asked what I was looking for....I could read him like a book and see he was suspicious. I just smiled and said something along the lines of " I Like watches have you got any watches I could take a look at?" He said "No", then remained silent. I then mentioned I liked Pocket knives and I did see the pocket knives in the glass cabinet up front but didn't see any in my price range. I wouldn't Have written this review at all If he hadn't said this " Oh we have pocket knives. We also have guns too. But I wouldn't Be selling them to you. And points his finger at me. I was dumbstruck as to what he just said I didnt know how to respond to what he said. so I just respond with "Oh.... really?" Then he says to the best of my Memory "Yes sir, we have Knives, Guns, Lions, tigers, and Bears." throws one last glare at me then walks away. I get he may have some paranoia that I was just some punk kid looking to steal something. But THAT level of disrespect was totally uncalled for. I Emmediately walked back over to my parents, and without saying anything hinted at them that we needed to leave. my dad after not being able to figure out why it was $600 for one bolo tie, politely told the clerk "I'm Done" and we walked out. After we walked out of the store I told them about what just happened and he agreed we'll never return nor reccomend this store to anyone. My aunt and uncle just moved to Prescott, AZ and I was very excited to visit all the shops on "Antique Row." I was specifically looking for Native American jewelry and home decor. When I stepped into Ogg's Hogan, I knew I hit the jackpot. I quickly learned this place was a disappointment. Nearly every item I was interested in, didn't have a price on it. I hate bugging sales associates to ask for prices, so I saved up my questions for two items that I really loved. I asked the sales lady behind the counter how much for a belt buckle. She wouldn't make eye contact with me and was really annoyed to find out the price. After waiting about 5 minutes, she came back and said it was $300. I then asked her about some antlers that were piled up in the back of the store in a heap. She didn't understand what I was talking about, so she went and asked her boss. Her boss, was the owner of the store, Jeff Ogg. I found his pic on the internet so I know it was him. He came over and said, "Yeah?" I asked if the antlers in the back were for sale and he said, "Nope." And that was that. I was totally stunned by this whole interaction and left in a daze. It was unwarranted and so weird! All the other shops and shopkeepers were awesome in Prescott. Ogg's Hogan is a dud. My aunt and uncle have been in a couple of times since my last visit and said the customer service is still terrible. It's really too bad because they have beautiful stuff. read more

One of my favorite stores is in my new "hometown". Like an old trading post that you used to find in New Mexico. We spent over an hour here when we discovered this place. The owner was courteous and obviously has been selling Navaho rugs and Native American jewelry for a very long time. If you want to gain an education on what he sells, he takes the time to explain about his pieces. Prices are fair and there was a cuff my boyfriend would have bought but the one he liked did not fit, but we will go back again. read more
