Don't bother to go to the Red Lion by Newquay Harbour, total shambles and has lost its great vibe…read more We have been going there for the past 25 years when on holiday and always had a positive experience until today ! Now operated by youngsters standing around chatting to each other who don't have a clue .we ordered food at the bar , only 4 tables occupied (red flag as usually full) waited approx 45 mins for food when fourth table who ordered after us got there food it was apparent our order wasn't coming ! Our order on the computer didn't go through to kitchen, so the youngsters blamed that .Appalling experience, so don't waste your time and money. So disappointing as it always was our first choice for a pub meal and a chat with the locals at the bar ( none in there on a Friday night) No food specials on the board and no advertisement of future events, live music or quiz night etc.

The real ale lover…read morewill find several "cask marque"-approved hand-pumped ales, all well-kept and fresh, although the selection is a tad conventional. The spacious inside seating is divided into several areas; unfortunately, the outside ^seating provided on the ground floor level is limited and only in the back of the pub (without any view). Traditional pubs in Newquay are rather few and far between, and only a handful of them are cask-marque. Red Lion is one of the better options; what would only rate as a medium-quality pub in other, more real-ale friendly towns must rank as a superior one in cocktail-bar-focused Newquay. It is a popular place especially among older patrons (such as myself), and can get quite busy towards the late afternoon, early evening. The food on offer is superior pub grub, and my dish (grilled whitefish on beetroot, with small potatoes and a rather sad "salad" garnish) was decent but nothing to write home about. While I had drinks at the Red Lion several times during my stay I decided not to eat there again. Service was down-to-earth and friendly, if a bit rushed (the place wasn't even half-full). The meal arrived in due course though. Have a look at my photos for a better impression of the pub.

The Owner Needs To Apologise To Her Staff…read more For context, I'm a restaurant reviewer for a certain newspaper, and I'm on holiday with my wife. I was recommended the Albion by my brother in-law, as he called it a 'lovely place with a cosy atmosphere'. How wrong he was. Don't get me wrong the food was lovely, and the service wasn't delayed (even though it seemed short staffed). However we couldn't ignore the (possible) owner shouting at one of her staff members, there was swear words being thrown like they meant nothing, and she wasn't giving the member of staff a moment to talk. This situation made the atmosphere in the pub feel hostile and cold, I have never seen a manager/owner lose their rag over what seemed to be such a small problem, and I'll tell you she was really going for the member of staff. This owner also was seen not doing a lot to help on bar, waiting food to tables or guiding customers to empty tables while the other staff members were busy. For all the restaurants and pubs I have visited, I have never seen an owner project her anger onto staff so viciously or be seen doing minimal amounts of work in their establishment. Overall I was not pleased with my visit, and how the owner treated that staff member made my wife visibly upset. I will not be visiting again and I hope I have enlightened anyone considering to go to the Albion to think twice before entering the deceiving cosy interior. https://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/ShowUserReviews-g528834-d2430764-r930098244-Old_Albion_Inn-Crantock_Cornwall_England.html#

The layout of the pub clearly indicates an emphasis on food rather than booze, but upon my visit I found the menu rather disappointingly small and conventional. Because of the location and atmosphere it is busy with families and groups of (mostly) younger people. The "restaurant pitch" is further reinforced by the generous layout of the bars for drinks and food. The range of ales is, again, dominated by St. Austell Brewery, and they're kept nice and fresh. But the highlight of The Fort Inn is its spacious outside seating to the back, from which you get a splendid view of Towan Beach (and the Great Western Beach in the background). Unfortunately the furnishings could be more comfortable - it is a strain to sit at those big, raw tables the way they're constructed - you simply cannot stretch out your legs. I've seen these kinds of benches at other pubs, too - maybe it's their way of telling you not to linger. Atmosphere is friendly, clean, "open".

You come here to run with the stags, do shots, and generally get a little messy. Scrap that. An awful lot messy. Its not big, its not clever and you certainly don't go to these places in London, but its Newquay, what happens in Newquay stays in Newquay. Er, until you Yelp about it, that is. Belushi's is a big, its right on the beach and is also right on the stag party trail. It's a decent place to start your evening. Drinks don't cost the earth. One of the bar men was kind of hot. I got to play table football (which unleashed my competitive side....I WANT TO WIN, DAMN IT!!). Hung out with a gimp-ed up stag and his herd, who were actually fun. All a-ok. Do a Sambucca and move on. Next bar please.

I'm giving a Belushi's 4 stars? What madness is this?…read more For context - the Belushi's I'm used to is a scummy dive off Covent Garden, where you end up when you're already rat-arsed and all the pubs are closing. After you've unstuck your feet from the floor you'll probably order some shots of something disgusting which seems like a good idea at the time, and will leave you reeling in the seventh circle of hell the next day. This Belushi's...is a little bit different. The bar/restaurant area is pretty spacious, with high tables, sofas and a glorious seaview terrace. I'll admit my review is biased, because I have a Tastecard giving me 50 per cent off food here - so for three days my friend and I dined on ludicrously cheap Belushi's fare. And you know what? The food's actually decent. The last night we came here we ordered steak, which worked out at...oooh...approximately £5.50 each. £5.50! At that price, it would be rude not to order some shots of Agwa (£2) and a bottle of wine (£14) to wash it down with...ah wait, perhaps this is more like the Belushi's I'm used to. But my feet never stuck to the floor, I never ended up with my face in some stranger's armpit, and I never stopped appreciating the view from that terrace. Next time I'm in Newquay...I'll be back.
