busy busy pub day and night a favourite for stag and hen partys before they hit the clubs, not the best for familys or social gatherings.

Don't bother to go to the Red Lion by Newquay Harbour, total shambles and has lost its great vibe…read more We have been going there for the past 25 years when on holiday and always had a positive experience until today ! Now operated by youngsters standing around chatting to each other who don't have a clue .we ordered food at the bar , only 4 tables occupied (red flag as usually full) waited approx 45 mins for food when fourth table who ordered after us got there food it was apparent our order wasn't coming ! Our order on the computer didn't go through to kitchen, so the youngsters blamed that .Appalling experience, so don't waste your time and money. So disappointing as it always was our first choice for a pub meal and a chat with the locals at the bar ( none in there on a Friday night) No food specials on the board and no advertisement of future events, live music or quiz night etc.

The Red Lion is a solid, traditional-style pub & grill close to Newquay Harbour. The real ale lover…read morewill find several "cask marque"-approved hand-pumped ales, all well-kept and fresh, although the selection is a tad conventional. The spacious inside seating is divided into several areas; unfortunately, the outside ^seating provided on the ground floor level is limited and only in the back of the pub (without any view). Traditional pubs in Newquay are rather few and far between, and only a handful of them are cask-marque. Red Lion is one of the better options; what would only rate as a medium-quality pub in other, more real-ale friendly towns must rank as a superior one in cocktail-bar-focused Newquay. It is a popular place especially among older patrons (such as myself), and can get quite busy towards the late afternoon, early evening. The food on offer is superior pub grub, and my dish (grilled whitefish on beetroot, with small potatoes and a rather sad "salad" garnish) was decent but nothing to write home about. While I had drinks at the Red Lion several times during my stay I decided not to eat there again. Service was down-to-earth and friendly, if a bit rushed (the place wasn't even half-full). The meal arrived in due course though. Have a look at my photos for a better impression of the pub.

The Towan Blystra (christened after the ancient Cornish name for Newquay, "Tewynplustri",…read moreanglicised to Towan Blystra) is the beach town's popular, pre-eminent JD Wetherspoon pub, with all the trimmings: cleaner than average toilets, (far!) cheaper than average booze, cheaper than average (but generally decent) food, a pleasant outside seating area, but - alas, also: a generous helping of lowlifes and riff-raff, especially towards the time the sun is setting on Newquay. Located not far from the Great Western Hotel, it's very well connected by bus (and that's important for people who drink like the British drink on late evenings). Atmosphere is generally relaxed, but can get a little more rambunctious as the evenings progress - due to the local boozers for whom this is one of the more popular waterholes. Tourists should generally be careful! But the prices for booze and food are the most competitive in all of Newquay (It's a Spoon after all!) - and Newquay is not a cheap place to spend your holidays. Rotating guest ales guarantee that the friendly patron (along with the less friendly) will find fresh and well-kept beers available at all times, but during peak hours ordering food and drinks can be a test for your patience, as Spoons are notoriously understaffed. The menu is streamlined, you'll basically get the same stuff at all the Spoons. Only prices vary a bit. Watch out for the Mo-Fr & Sunday daily "Clubs", which offer meal deals for a specific selection of dishes. General advice for tourists on weekend nights: Don't go there, seek out a less busy place. Otherwise, not a bad option in Newquay.

The layout is ok, the terrace out just above the road level probably being the stand out feature. Pubs name is the old Cornish name for Newquay.
