This is NOT deep sea fishing -- and you will probably NOT take whatever you catch because it will be too small. But if trawling the 12 foot bay with 2 baited hooks on a basic rod/reel rig with the occasional hit interests you -- this charter could be your thing. The Groupon price point is quite reasonable. Captain Tony is an engaging and hospitable host and his new pontoon style boat is steady and accommodates a dozen plus very comfortably. That's about the complement we had on our morning excursion and this is the first year he is running this boat in Cape May. Top Tip: Great for kids who have never fished before -- they will land something -- we all did -- mostly baby sea bass and mud sharks. The crew is helpful and the experience pleasant.

The captain and mate were very helpful, explained how to fish, and knew a lot about the wildlife. The tour can hold 49 and there was 14 on the boat so there was plenty of personal interaction. One group caught 2 Flounders, another group caught a shark, and my group caught 2 crab and a Sea Robin. The day before, the captain told us they caught a 24 inch Flounder! Overall, this was a 5 Star trip. What I liked: Crew good with kids Crew always helping someone Reasonable price Dropped a crab trap on the way out (kids got to pick the spot) What I did not like: Sea bugs all over (crew offered big spray which helped) Catch more fish

They instructed us to ensure we caught fish. In speaking to Chuck, he's fished the waters around Cape May for 30+ years and had the opportunity to acquire the boat when the former owner retired, which he did. The captain put us on the reefs or wrecks that held sea bass and croakers. The crew was encouraging to us and our daughters and all of us caught fish, which the crew cleaned and filleted for us expertly. The fish we caught was breaded that evening and made for a delicious and memorable dinner with our girls when we got home. Many of the patrons on the boat were repeat customers. Rod rentals were reasonably priced and did the trick. A few notes, this is a smaller sized fishing boat so if it's rough on the day you head out, you're going to feel it. The day we went out the weather and surf was fine so no issues. There isn't a ton of shade on the boat so bring a hat and sunscreen. There are separate restrooms for men and women. Besides our daughters, there were a number of women on the boat, who all seemed to have a good time.

Spent Saturday on the fishing trip with my husband and two teenagers. A couple of notes we agree…read morewould help families choosing outings going forward: (1) The crew is indeed very professional, friendly, and helpful - a real plus. (2) The boat is also clean and there are two restrooms as promised. (3) The 9-3 trip was attended by 50 people and it made for a very crowded boat- shoulder to shoulder at the rails, with very little indoor/shaded seating. (4) 90% of the crowd on our boat were not vacationing Cape May families but men who reported they drove many hours to come and join this trip. That's no big deal in and of itself, however, they behaved in ways that made the trip quite uncomfortable at times. In particular several chain smoked throughout the trip, several spoke loudly in very sexist ways about women, and one man told a decidedly racist joke (ending with a noose and a Black man) very loudly in front of my kids. With just a tiny number of women on the boat, a couple kids, and virtually no people of color, it was a challenging situation. (5) This is a trip for people with strong stomachs and sea legs. I've done quite a bit of fishing and whale watching in the last 5 years but never seen the boat rock like this one did. Dramamine didn't stand a chance and my family spent most of the trip in the bathroom. Unfortunately the clean bathrooms are equipped with rough metal dispensers - the paper towels clogged and wouldn't come out at all, and I sliced my hand trying to extract the toilet paper. Please note that I've said nothing about fish. Several people caught a few and we got one. That's not a big deal- we've been on great trips without catching anything. Our reflections on the day and our general feelings of disappointment are about the issues above, not the catch rate. Hopefully describing all of this will help you make a good match for you on your next trip!

Last minute decision to come to Cape May…read more Jumped online and found a reasonable charter at the last moment. Worked out perfectly on a Thursday afternoon. Just the two of us picked the option for fishing. 1pm time. Read the tips to show up an hour early. The boat before us wasn't back yet, and the parking was none. There are maybe 3 businesses sharing one parking area and more businesses fighting for street parking. This was just a little frustrating. Once the boat tour before us came back and left, they get you double parked in their tiny lot. If you don't like that, come early to find street parking. Other than that. This is a bigger charter. You pay a rental for the rod when you purchase your ticket, which includes your fishing license. There are about 25 spots for rods built into the side of the boat, but we were fortunately there was not that many people. Even with only about 15 people on our side, with the drifting the boat does you are guaranteed to get tangled at least once. Thank goodness for Joe and the help on the boat. There in a flash to fix your rod, untangle, or unhook your fish. I can unhook my own bass, but I don't know salt water fish and didn't want to stick my finger in anything I didn't know. You get two cups of bait. They show you how to bait your hook, and once the hour long trip out is over, you do your line and go. The captain was great with getting us on the fish. I caught a couple of flounders, a bunch of bass and a sea Robin! I lost count of how many I caught. We caught lots and got a coupl of keepers. We didn't get the heaviest, but it was close. Bathrooms for all on the boat. Snacks for purchase. Sun shirts for purchase if needed. Be like the cool kids and take a slim rag for after you bait your hook. It's worth the money. If you wanted less people you will be paying more on a different charter. Again a shout out to a great ships crew and their great job. They cleaned our catch and were fun. Thanks for a great time.
