So I attended an event at the foundry center recently. It was a holiday oddities market and I have…read moreto say what a neat venue! Having visited the Gold country off and on my entire life, I am kind of used to these neat old buildings that dot The Golden Necklace Highway of 49. But this one was unique. It was multi-leveled though not necessarily two stories. If you've ever been to Nevada City you understand that it's actually fairly steep in its terrain so nothing can be completely flat. So whoever built this back in the day utilized to the natural geography in a really cool way. Inside there is a bar in one area, two separate lower level rooms with completely different feels to each of them. And then of course as you come in there is foyer like gathering area. The market itself was awesome and I'll review that separately. I wasn't able to utilize the bar as there was a long line the entire time and only one or two servers so that was a bit of a disappointment. Most of the food was prepackaged again because of the type of event this was. I am not sure how food would be done here for other events. In terms of facilities the bathrooms were well kept in clean, the whole venue seemed to be well taken care of, the small exhibits that were around were in good condition, and everything seemed to be functioning properly. The lighting is a little dim which was made more apparent given the day was a dreary fall afternoon with lots of cloud cover and rain. So it did make looking at some of the items at the market a little more difficult. I did end up using my cell phone flashlight to get a better look at some items. But overall this is a great place! I love the feel of it and I could see lots of events being very cool here. I think a wedding would be super fun though It might be difficult for those who have accessibility needs. That's the last part I want to add to this, accessibility parking. There's like hardly any. In fact parking in general in this entire area is extremely difficult. The parking lot's not very big and as I mentioned earlier this is a multi-level space. So it's not the most accessible to those who have mobility needs. Granted it was built before ADA and I believe it's historical so it would be very difficult to make some of the adjustments to make it more accessible. But something, anything, needs to be done about the parking.

Fun, clean and friendly great place to hang and have fun with all sorts of different events.read more

THE SHOW: The musical "Assassins" was playing up here and my…read moreboyfriend insisted that we go. First off, the show was AMAZING, AMAZING, AH-MAZ-ING! I had never seen Assassins before and thought it was just really great. This is a pretty small theater with only about 8 -10 or so rows of seats. CONCESSIONS: They do have concessions that were pretty cheap and they also said that we could bring in our own. Everyone seemed pretty laid back. SEATING: We bought regular admission seats, but for $5 more, you could get reserved seating. On the night that we went, it wasnt necessary at all....but if you typically run late or just want certain seats, it may be worth your while to reserve. These seats were plastic seats, no arm rests....which is fine for us, actually I prefer that type of seating unless they are newer theater seats. ...We are bigger people, so they old theater seating really is uncomfortable to us. BATHROOM: The bathroom was a single room. It needed a bit of an improvement, but it did the job Overall, I liked this theater and look forward to any shows that may come to it. I would def go again! And the drive is BEAUTIFUL!!!

It's disheartening to get ready for an audition only to realize later that the "casting directors" are the cast. The reused cast members are all clearly very talented, but the advertisement of "open auditions" is false, and I advise hopeful actors outside the predetermined troupe to not waste their time and energy auditioning for Sierra Stages. I think that this establishment might fair well to brand themselves as an "Acting Troupe" rather than advertising open auditions for each production.

Jimmy/Grace & Co. have imagined and created a cutting-edge troupe that puts a brilliant spin the typical theatrical experience. Good theater tweaks the material and pushes the edges. It makes important commentary on society's soundtrack and leaves audiences with an open mental window where there might have been a closed door - or even a wall. I hope this company finds enough satisfaction in this community to continue producing a handful of shows each year. I'm definitely in. All In!
