Terrible and Disrespectful Experience at Onyx Theater…read more I took three senior citizens to the Onyx Theater to see what we believed was a movie about the band Nirvana, since my sister was a big Nirvana fan and the group was excited to see it. The movie was titled "Nirvanna: The Band - The Show - The Movie." We spent nearly $100 to get in and $100 on food there, went into the theater, and within the first ten minutes realized it was not about the band Nirvana at all, but instead about two comedians pretending to be in a band with a similar name. We immediately went back to the front to explain the misunderstanding and politely asked for a refund. Instead of showing any understanding, the staff began criticizing the three seniors for not noticing that "Nirvanna" was spelled with two N's instead of one. They acted as if these seniors were foolish for not catching the subtle spelling difference (one N vs. two N's), which was incredibly rude and unnecessary. The way they treated them was insulting, embarrassing, and completely lacking in class. A simple misunderstanding turned into a humiliating experience because of how dismissive and condescending the staff was. One star for a truly terrible experience and shockingly rude customer service.

Parking takes some patience on a Saturday afternoon - but once we started up the parking ramp and saw what a snarl it was, we were already committed. Is backing into the space a new trend? We saw (and waited) for at least 10 cars to back into their spot - this was the entire reason for the traffic jam. But once parked, it's just a quick jaunt over to the second floor entrance. Of the theaters I've been to in the Sacramento area, this one is head and shoulders above the rest. The staff is engaging (call out to Ethan scanning tickets) . The management of this location has brought together a team that enjoy helping the patrons and appear to enjoy working as a team. There was some training going on while we were there and the suggestions given by fellow team members were thoughtful and - this is the big thing I noticed -were received in a welcome manner. The concession stand was well maintained and the crew was busy tidying up after what looked like a crush of people. I do love that I can get a glass of wine at the theater. There a small section with high tops and chairs to sit with a glass of wine or actual onsite made to order appetizers/starters. The theater itself was super tidy, reclining seats are comfortable and the sound system was perfect. The bathrooms were immaculate. I didn't see a single stall out of order, and after what had been a full day of use, every thing was well stocked and very clean. What I'm going to remember, and what going to bring me back to this location, is the staff.

We saw Song Sung Blues, scheduled for three forty five p.m! Power outage. There was repeated announcement of Emergency, Please Proceed To The Nearest Exits! Yes every followed the instructions! I want to commend your employees and I want to commend your volunteers! They in my own opinion, they did an excellent job to be sure all Guests if Guests is correct word, were evacuated in an orderly way! Eventually all the Guests were able to return to the respective auditoriums to finish seeing their different movies. My auditorium for Song Sung Blues had fifty four Guests! Best of luck to your movie house. Best of luck to your employees! Best of luck to your volunteers! I often use word of volunteers because since July 1991 I been twelve month volunteer at Salvation Army, so that is how I think!

Also, noticed a silly comment from a previous visitor. As movie goers we should all understand that movie times are "delayed" due to previews. Please, Just adjust your arrival time if you don't want to sit thru them. It's not the local independent theatres fault that previews are so long. They are just trying to make it possible for us to enjoy films - be nice to them.

They're actually quite squeaky too. The screen size is amazing though. About 1 hour into watching The Odyssey, the screen shut off for about 15 minutes. I guess it overheated. Luckily for us in the Sacramento area, we have one of the only forty-one theaters in the world that have the capability to show 70mm film properly. We have the Esquire IMAX Theatre located on K Street in downtown Sacramento. The last film that I felt the draw to watch in 70mm at this theater was the Christopher Nolan classic, Oppenheimer. Well, he is at it again with his release of The Odyssey. I just knew I had to see it there-this film was the event of the year in the movie universe and seeing it anywhere else when we had this option available to us just wasn't going to cut it for me. So I jumped on their website to look for tickets and boom they are pretty much sold out for all the premium showings for weeks-so I bit the bullet and decided to go watch it at 11am on a Friday morning. I am a member of their free rewards program called the Directors Club and with that you get $2 off each ticket purchase. Tickets ended up costing $23 per ticket, which is pretty high but hey it's the movie event of the year. Parking at this theater is mostly a parking garage, but they do give you a discount inside the theater to apply to your parking but it's a long movie so parking still ends up being pretty high. I do love that all seating at the Esquire is reserved seating, so no real rush to get in line or run in and grab your seat. Pro Tip: When selecting seats at this theater, always try to get as far back in the theater as possible and try for closest to center as possible. For this showing I got quite lucky in that I had back row seats and just a few off dead center-I couldn't have asked for much better. The screen in this theaters is unlike anything I will ever get used to-the screen is a massive 6 stories tall-it's truly something to see. The sound is so pure as well-sometimes you feel like you're going to be blasted out of your seat when watching a movie at Esquire. I find the cost of the concessions at this theater are a tad bit cheaper than I experience at Regal in Natomas or Delta Shores. Now the real question that needs to be answered and this is coming from someone who has seen this movie on a regular screen at another theater and on 70mm here at Esquire--Is it worth paying the extra money to see this film on 70mm at Esquire IMAX? The answer is a resounding YES!!! If you have a 70mm theater anywhere near you-run don't walk to that theater as soon as possible and watch this film in all the glory it was intended to be seen and consider yourself lucky to be near one of only 41 theaters on the globe that lets you have this experience. This Esquire IMAX Theatre isn't just another movie theater. It's a destination.
