Odyssey is an amazingly organized, adventurous, safe and friendly group of swimmers, kayakers and organizers. Warren has created something truly great with this team.

What temperature is the water at Berkeley Marina? Is there a reference I can use that gets updated regularly?

Hi Michelle, thanks for checking! The water varies from low 50s for the coldest part of the winter to 68-72 for most of June-September. People are often surprised how warm it is over the summer...sometimes 10 degrees warmer than SF! We use an iPhone… Read more

They offer Tot Swim (including on Sundays) which is honestly such a fun addition. We called ahead of time with a bunch of questions as newbies and inquired about walk-ins. We received answers to everything we needed to be set up with success for our first swim. There's also a super cool vending machine by the bathrooms/showers/changing areas that offers nutritious pre and post snacks, goggles, sunscreen, and I think swim caps too. The indoor pool is super spacious and everyone was respectful (of lanes, hehe). You're able to utilize pool accessories during the swim hours and there's lifeguards on duty with a stop watch to let you know when Tot time is over. We had around an hour and 15 or so. There's an awesome grass area and epic park next door. Parking is accessible in front of center. Can't wait to return! Definitely check the swim calendar online before heading over.

Unfortunately, the only options in Alameda, where we live, are chronically closed to new swimmers. I ended up doing a google search to see what Oakland had to offer, and I'm so glad I did. We just started with the Oaklantis pre-team. It is fantastic, and exactly what we were looking for - a low pressure way for him to get some experience being on a team, while improving his strokes. The instructors are knowledgeable, the practices are organized, the team's communication is prompt and thorough, and the pricing reasonable. Most importantly, my son is having a great time, which is really what I want from an athletic activity.

The counselors are very attentive to the campers & make it a very fun one. My son got hurt by a lil cut on his chin last summer doing a trick he don't usually do. I was at ease when I got there & noticed the care he was given by one of the counselors & how calm my son was even though he was bleeding. I took my son to urgent care & stitches were not needed. In skateboarding & in any sport, you will get hurt but knowing the attentiveness & care they had with my son, there is no doubt that they're main concern is the safety of all campers. The Skatecamp are great for beginners and also to those who wants to progress more in their skating. They group the kids according to their skill levels. I noticed all the couselors & campers encouraging each other. It's a great environment for your child to be for a whole week. My son is already looking forward to the next one.

It is just paying for the opportunity to help the actual paid leaders do their job so they apparently don't have to anymore and otherwise perform grunt work. I get it, that's entry level, but there should be some leadership learning opportunities as well, and there was NONE. As my son put it, "how am I supposed to know what to do when I don't know what I'm doing?" Additionally, the Junior Leadership camp was advertised as being an opportunity to learn about all the camps, including hiking days, rock climbing days, and aquatic days. There was ONLY aquatic. The advertised variety of activities and learning opportunities was a complete lie. I reached out to Lauren Gregory, the director of the camp, on day 2 because our expectations were not even close to being met. She didn't respond to two emails, and it was only when I registered a complaint that I actually heard back from her. Her response was a long-winded nothing of an answer, and my follow-up also went ignored. My son was really excited about this camp and the chance to learn more about leadership and take on more responsibility, but it was a complete disappointment and Lauren Gregory is a disgrace.

All of the trainers here are excellent, but most of the classes I take are with Deanna. Training with her is an incredibly positive experience--she is completely committed to helping her clients succeed, and not just in the gym. And on those days when my tank is empty or I'm not with it for whatever reason she's completely understanding and is able to adjust things to meet me where I'm at so I still get a good workout in. A lot of it may be behind the scenes, but she works just as hard as her clients at helping them achieves their goals. We hit punching bags. Pretty fun to feel like Muhammed Ali. :) my knuckles are red. Boxing is only on Wednesdays. Then we did squats in between the different types of boxing moves.
