It is really over priced and the seats arent even the best, but they have all the good movies, and the ben and jerrys thing is the best!

City Centre

A very large cinema in Manchester city centre, this cinema was previously operated by ODEON, until…read morethey were forced to sell the cinema to rivals, VUE, who now operate the cinema. This location is HUGE - 23 screens, 4,723 seats, and one of the largest IMAX screens in Europe, The cinema is over multiple floors, and the layout can be a little confusing, the staff seem friendly enough and on guard to help. If you require lift access, you will require a staff member to help you with this as they are NOT customer operated. Escalators are available without the help of a staff member. There are lots of screens to pick up and purchase tickets, and there is normally at least one person on the manned desks if you want to use as little technology as possible to get your tickets. There are often cheaper screenings, costing around £4.99 per person, so it is reasonable and affordable, combined with the many offers available from many third-party companies including banks and insurance companies, who offer discounted cinema tickets. Snacks are expensive, but what cinema doesn't charge an arm and a leg for the slightest bite to eat? Not much has changed since the ODEON days, the main difference is the branding around the cinema, some parts could do with a refurb but still a nice, large cinema in a great central city location. 4*

Before the advent of dreary out-of-town multiplexes, every high street boasted a cinema like The…read moreRegal. Most are now sad and hollowed out relics, home to carpet warehouses and luxury flats, so the Regal is a cherishable oddity - and a lovely reminder of a largely lost era. Does it have the biggest screen? The loudest sound system? The biggest buckets of pop corn? Nein. However, does it have architectural merit, charm and - above all - atmosphere. Now, admittedly, this atmosphere is generated in part by the kind of seating arrangement that predates the obesity crisis - and you might struggle for elbow room if you are bigger than, say, Danny Devito, but this kind of cheek-by-jowel feel is the perfect way to see a big summer Event Movie. We took in the last Harry Potter film here and the combination of steeply angled seating, old style uplighting and physical closeness to our fellow viewers helped to create a genuine sense of sharing the experience with other people. As mentioned, this comes at a cost: if you're a tubster, or suffer from deep-vein thrombosis, or if you are one of the people we seem to have bred of late who don't like being in proximity to other people, then you'd probably be better off seeking a dreary, out-of-town multiplex. Otherwise, to see how we kicked it back in the old skool, there probably aren't many better examples left in the country.
