Located in the town of Arden, DE where you can buy a house but only rent the land for a period of 99 years, an ordinance set long ago in this odd, quaint, but at the same time homely and friendly town it is no suprise that you would find a one part store, one part musuem on everything detailing oddities and unusual items at this store. I wanted to bring back a souvenir from this store and asked how much a lamp was. The owner who is extremely nice stated this lamp was in the asylum when it was open and may be carrying some spirits with it lol. She said something of the sort, I am taking some liberties. Anyway, suffice to say I did not buy the lamp but a glass art piece for less then ten dollars to show my support for such a rare and interesting store. I highly recommend you visit as they will give you a tour for free. The owner even gave me a free "fortune teller miracle fish" which I have in my car to this day. As always people SYOY!!! read more

Like Lydia says in Beetlejuice-I myself am strange and unusual. Which is probably why I like this store. We found this place on a random road trip. I came in at 7:30pm and when I walked in the staff looked alarmed. It is kinda weird that I managed to scare the staff in a scary store. What happened was they thought it was 8pm and they were getting ready to close up. They were so friendly and nice they opened the store/museum right up again. We got to walk around and look at strange oddities and pet a cat. (Warning: do not pet the cat on the belly even if it rolls over and begs you to). The owner demonstrated her homemade Tesla coil, and I got to look at crystals through a microscope! It was a great place to nerd out. As far as stuff to see, there was lots of old medicine bottles, old medical equipment and taxidermy. I am not a 100% sure what items were on exhibit and what was for sale, but I ended up with a book on abandoned asylums and a yoga skeleton because I am strange and unusual. read more

Found this place by accident and I'm happy I did, because it's amazing. Took my almost eleven year old son earlier today and it's all he's talked about since. The owners are super nice and took the time to really show us around the store and give us an informal tour. The items that they have for sale range from the creepy to the bizarre to the downright weird and we loved it. Wet specimens of various critters, old medical equipment, vintage gas masks, stuff from insane asylums, various skeletons and stuff made from bones (the lamp was my favorite). They said they were in the process of expanding the store to multiple rooms, which is nice because they've got quite the collection. Definitely a place we will be coming back to. read more

I was lucky enough to find this little jewel during a recent visit to Wilmington, my childhood town, from Charlotte, North Carolina. The Oddporium is ran by Beth and Ken, both of them are incredibly nice and very interesting people. To say the Oddporium has character would be a vast understatement. This store is alive. Everything on display, and even the building itself, has a story behind it and a reason it's there. The pieces can be slightly macabre, bizarre, or just outright odd but it's a treat to see, touch, or even buy something you'll most likely never see again. The store is a living portrait of human life; celebrating both life and death. I absolutely loved it. read more

This is definitely an oddporium! Every goth kids dream could be fulfilled in this tiny shop. The staff was personable and interactive but unfortunately I found that a large portion of the wares weren't accessible for purchase or labeled for purchase. It's a great museum otherwise! read more

Even though I didn't find much I really liked, this is a great little store. A lot of the charm is the owner (manager?). I found a beautiful bracelet and the owner even called the designer to get me a lower price. However beautiful bracelets are not their main kind of stuff. They specialize in the weird. I liked the radium glass that glowed in black light. Oh and I loved the store cat. He/she loves to be petted...Just not on the tummy please or there will be claws! He'll also sit on your lap or purr on the carpet. He's adorable. The owner/manager really makes the place. She is welcoming, engaging, funny and generous. I wouldn't come a long way to see this, but if you're in the area you should definitely stop by. They are open until 8 most days and have plenty of parking. read more

Absolutely LOVED this place! The owner is a total sweetheart and definitely makes the whole experience that much better!
