Our last day in South America after almost three weeks, but the first time we were scammed. We booked a day trip from San Antonio, to Valparaiso, and on to our hotel in Santiago. This restaurant in Valparaiso, Oda Pacifico, was "recommended" by our guide, who said he and our driver would eat in a separate room in order to watch the car.
Our suspicions were first raised with the "menu" that was xeroxed and attached to a clipboard. It was obvious the prices were extremely high for a lunch in Chile. Without any alcohol, our lunch was over $110 USD! The restaurant capitalizes on the fact that the exchange rate with the Chilean Peso is a difficult calculation. I noted that locals arriving were given a different menu.
Food was pedestrian - not bad, but certainly not worth the money we were charged. We had spectacular meals elsewhere in the country for 1/3 the price.
Waiter was very polite and service was OK. However we've felt abused by this restaurant and their conspiracy with the tour company. read more
