I just had a phlebotomy at the One Blood here in Charlotte, N.C. at the Abbey Place location…read more What a wonderful, engaging experience!! when I arrived for my appointment all three staff members including Kim, the supervisor smiled and waved to me as if I were somebody! I filled out the necessary documents and walked out of their location-cookies in hand-twenty minutes later. Very efficient and very engaging. Rated: a very positive experience. I drop the mic!! One Blood has a new location. Located in the same shopping center as Luisa's and Beyond Amazing…read moreDonuts, nice to see a new space that is still convenient to me to donate whole blood or platelets. The plus about this new office is that there are windows to see out (to the parking lot). The previous donor room was an interior room so the only things to really look at were the screens that everyone had to decide to watch the same thing. Looks like each platelet station has their own entertainment. Staffers are still great and friendly, some of them are adjusting to the new office and where all the supplies are kept. The layout of the office is not as spread out, but is a more efficient space- less walking between the history/interview rooms and the donor room. Check in is easy- make an appointment online or on site...further check in questions are done on iPads and you are ready to go. Vitals are taken in the history room and then you go donate. Always nice to know the blood is kept local and you are always thanked for donation. It gets used in the area and helps the community.

I finally followed through in donating plasma. I was told the first time doing it to be patient as…read moreit would take 3 hours. They were right, but it was handled professionally. Therefore the next time I went back it was suppose to be easier. I had to fill out the information on the computer. After it was done I was told to take a seat. I waited over 20 minutes. They even asked if I was waiting to get screened and I said yes. I counted 6 people working on the screening, but none actually doing any screening. Then they finally asked me if I was waiting. Again I said yes. I went up to the counter and was told you could have just stood in front of the counter and we would have started the screening process. They knew I was there and waiting for the screening so the comment wasn't valid. I went up to the counter and the person there was in training. I didn't think much about it at first until it became apparent he hadn't been trained at all. The person training wasn't doing a full monitoring of the trainee. He didn't even know how to stick a finger. He finally stuck my finger, but kept my hand elevated. Applying severe pressure between his thumb and middle finger on top of my knuckle. This is not proper procedure in doing this. He almost broke my finger. He was having problems filling the small tube of blood, but he managed to get it everywhere else. He applied so much pressure on the knuckle which again I state isn't proper procedure, I had to soak my finger in Epsom salts. Then when he finally got it done he took the tube in placed in the machine to separate the plasma and blood. He left it in the container for a long period of time. Finally he removed it and attempted to place the plasma for a test, but I watched as part of the blood went into the test. I even seen it and told them what I seen. As a person with over 17 years in the medical field it was pathetic to see two people who failed in administering such simple test. By their mishandling of the procedures I wasted an hour in trying to do something good because of their deliberate negligence. I recommend everyone to ask for someone who has been there awhile and if you think someone is in training then ask for someone else. If you don't then you may waste an hour or more and be told you can't donate. It's one thing if it's your fault because of improper diet, but if they fail to administer the test correctly then why should the donor suffer? Imcompetence!

It is my first experience donating plasma, I have donated here a total of 5 times. Staff were…read morefriendly, especially if I arrived early. Sometimes you hear staff complain about their jobs, but that's not unusual lol. Of course the first day took over 3 hours to donate because you run through so many tests, and they have many people coming in to donate. Some of the donators are sketchy, but the staff assures you that if anyone makes you feel uncomfortable then to tell them right away. Honestly the only bad thing about this place is when they miss your vein. If you're like me and are kinda scared about the whole IV thing, that's definitely the worst part. Besides that I only have one other critical comment. The are supposed to give you 5 extra dollars if you are a student, also sometimes they do these fun things that give you an opportunity to earn extra money. They've never given me my $5, even though everytime I go they say "you'll receive an extra five dollars for donating today because you're a student," and every time I've won extra money, they never credited it to my card. Oh yeah, don't be surprised when they give you an immunotek prepaid card, it sucks because you're always paying a fee to use it, but that's the only option.

I've been a regular for a few years now. Their quality of…read morecare has declined the whole time. They can't seem to keep employees and this reflects poorly on the working conditions. I've gotten horribly sick from the workers being forced to work while sick. This has happened multiple times and I'm sure countless others have experienced this. They are constantly training new employees so we constantly have to deal with problems and pain because it's just a bunch of new, inexperienced people coming and going all the time!! This company obviously treats their workers poorly and doesn't give them what they need to thrive at their job and give their best care!! Profits over people, as always. shame on octapharma. DO BETTER. I will not be donating here again. Enough is enough.

I have been a regular at Octapharma Plasma since I lived in Washington State. When I moved back to…read moreSC I found the West Columbia location. Just like in Washington, the staff is extremely friendly and handles the location with utmost professionalism. Of all the places you can give plasma, Octapharma has the most pleasant atmosphere. They're also the best pat scale around. Unlike most places, if you give consistently the pay stays at a great rate. Based on weight, if I stay above 7 visits every 35 days, I get $60/visit. That extra money comes in handy for so many things. Plus, the uses for the plasma helps so many people. I highly recommend Octapharma.
