A sculpture of a laying oxen. It was established in 1599 as the entryway to the newly erected meat market.
It was badly damaged during the war, but restored to it's former beauty in 1950.
The Latin inscription below the animal reads:
'Omnia habent ortus suaque in / crementa, sed ecce quem cernis numquambos fuit / hic vitulus.'
Which loosely translates to:
Everything has it's origin and beginning, but see the ox, which you see here, was never a calf.' read more
