I should have gone with my gut and not dealt with Ochalek-Stark of Milan. A few years ago when I had to bury my brother I was the one consoling the director Mary about something in her personal life she couldn't keep out of her professional life. Years later when my dad passed I decided to use their service. I was thinking of requesting someone other than Mary to deal with, but I thought maybe she's better equipped to handle these things. I was wrong. She would make statements without consulting her notes (referring to other deceased arrangements). We were not anyone special. The day of the service (which was outside because of COVID-19) they recommended we arrived 30 minutes before the beginning of the service, which was fine. When we arrived my dad was outside alone, which may be ok for a funeral director but not grieving family members.
Rachel called me about payment and I told her I was waiting for the death benefit to come in. She was always very kind and friendly. When Mary contacted me about payment she was instantly in attack mode. She didn't identify herself when she called. She didn't inquire about how my family was doing. She got right down to business and said that they had put out a lot of money. She didn't believe me when I told her the death benefits had not come in.
