Did a great job with Mom's funeral. Took care of all the paperwork. Made it very easy so we could mourn and focus on family

I wish I could give C&H zero stars. My father passed on July 2, and we asked C&H to handle the…read morecremation. I called July 3 at 10:14am as I hadn't heard from them and wanted to ensure they were made aware that he wanted direct cremation. I spoke with the admin who indicated she'd get the message to the Funeral Director. By 1:55p I still heard nothing and called them back again. The admin said she'd call the director again. He finally called me back. He informed me they had already embalmed him; didn't know he was a direct cremation; Casually admitted their mistake and said they'd "waive the fee." That's not a favor. That's what the law requires. Embalming a person without family consent is illegal in Michigan (MCL 339.1810 (k)). Because of this violation and the insensitivity of their response, I asked another funeral home to take over. C&H delayed the transfer and then tried to charge me a storage fee--even though their own policy says fees don't kick in until day 7, and this was day 5. And we only didn't retrieve him sooner because they blocked it. They caused my family unnecessary pain, stress, and distrust during one of the hardest moments of our lives. I expected compassion and professionalism. I received negligence and obstruction. Please think twice before placing your loved one in their care.

After a friend suggested a cemetery lantern tour as a fun fall activity, I was able to add Highland…read moreCemetery as a new local gem that I had uncovered. Located in a hilly area that overlooks Ypsi's downtown, it is a peaceful, park like setting with rolling hills, and is just spectacular in the fall. After the nighttime lantern tour, we decided to come back during the day to see the place a little better. We could not have picked a more gorgeous day to see the fall colors against the blue sky, and we were able to see many of the thoughtful and beautiful monuments that were left to family members and loved ones as we meandered through the walkways. Rich with local history (which we learned about on the lantern tour, and could appreciate even more so in the daytime), we saw others enjoying the setting as well, as more than a few power walkers passed us on our afternoon stroll. Whether you visit for the nighttime tour, or just want to take a closer glimpse at an Ypsi local gem, Highland Cemetery is a place that you just might add to your list of local favorites as well!

There weren't any maps or coordinates to her grave site that were readily available, so I called the office. Though I would be arriving after the office closed, the staff printed up thorough maps and information to help guide me to her resting place. I got three maps from them and a list of the family members from her family who were buried there. What could have been like searching for a needle in a haystack was an absolute breeze, thanks to their help. They left the information in a little envelope taped to the door with my name on it. So easy to work with. I also want to add that the grounds are just beautiful. You can tell that this peaceful place has quite the history. If I had more time there, I would definitely have taken a nice walk through the grounds. Such a lovely and calming place.

When I spoke with my sister about this, she advised that Generations Funeral and Crematory services advertised in Saint Francis Church Bulletin and since I often go to church virtually at Saint Francis here in Ann Arbor and she was a parishioner for years there, I decided to give them a call. I thought that we would have to arrange everything in advance but that was not the case. All three providers that I contacted told me that I could just call when the time came and we needed their services. When our brother died we gave them a call and they were able to assist us in getting all the paperwork we needed in order to proceed with direct cremation. They made it very simple and since we were a bit of a distance all we had to do was send them the signed paperwork by email. At that point I contacted them to pay for this and it was a very reasonable amount. They picked my brother up at the morgue at the hospital and transported him into their care. They obtained all the licensing and permits and transported him to the crematorium. He was cremated within a few days and then his ashes were returned to the Ann Arbor location so that it was very easy for us to get there and pick them up. While I was there they gave me very good guidance. I will be flying home eventually and there are issues with transporting ashes across state lines and of course getting through security so instead of placing them in a small urn that I had purchased, Nancy (I hope that is her name!) was kind enough to package some up for me in a little clear container so that I can show it at the airport and I can go through security, they also provided me with the paperwork I will need to show related to the cremains. We were very pleased with their services and felt that the customer service in particular was exceptional. We would recommend them for any type of funeral services from direct cremation to a regular burial. I believe they do it all.

I am in the beauty industry and unfortunately I have had to deal with lots of deaths throughout the years with clients, family, friends, and co-workers. I have never worked with a funeral home as great as these two guys and their business. They were attentive, kind, compassionate, extremely professional, and so easy to work with. No matter what time of day or night it was if I called and they answered or got back to me super quick. My niece passed away recently and it was extremely devastating to our family. They did not miss a beat helping us plan a beautiful funeral for her. if you are looking for a funeral home I would highly, highly recommend them. If I could give them more than five stars
