We had a very poor experience with moises and Oceanside painting. The entire project was quite expensive yet we were continuously told to pay extra in order to get a quality job. Well, a 19K bid then became over 24K with extras. What's worse is that in most cases, the money paid to get good quality resulted in just OK quality and many missed spots. During the course of a three week job, I was forced to monitor their work in detail and continuously point out missed spots and poor workmanship. Moises' standard reply was "just don't look too closely." This is not the position of someone who does quality work. Zero pride, serious lack of professionalism. In the end, the stair rail was botched and I had to pay twice to have it painted. The outside doors were painted the wrong shade of black despite having given him the paint color and brand. Many areas were improperly prepped or not prepped at all. The entry wall was repeatedly abraded and re-painted resulting in shiny spots; I asked that it be corrected and it was not. At the end, he did not honor the punch list, nor did he stand behind his work. The icing on this unfortunate cake: his crew failed to prime the ceiling on one of bedrooms and the paint began to bubble within two weeks. I contacted moises repeatedly (3x in writing) to have this fixed and was flat out ignored, forcing me to hire another local painted (who was excellent) to fix the issues he caused. If you want quality work without hassle, avoid this guy at all costs. There are excellent local painters who will give you one number and then stick to it rather than nickel and diming you, and subsequently delivering a mediocre result. In the end, we got 'ok', paid 25% extra to get it, and then had to spend another $3500 to correct issues that should have minimally been addressed via the punch list. All in, we paid a 40% premium over the original bid and I think the pictures tell the story. Sadly, there are many more where these came from including three exterior black doors that do not match the trim color of the house. Oceanside Painting was referred to me by my realtor to prepare my 58 year old family home for sale. There was so much work to do and I didn't think it could be handled in the short period we had allotted to him. Especially as family was still living in the home and running a business in the home at the same time. Talk about a difficult job to agree to do. Moises worked with us to bring his crew in for the different phases of work, working overtime and on weekends to get the job done. When we experienced a problem with the staining of the deck Moises listened to my complaint and quickly resolved the issue to my satisfaction. When the time for the final punch list came, Moises followed the list and corrected each item. I have worked with my share of contractors over the years and when it came to focusing on details (ie the punch list) there has almost always been grumbling and being called "too picky" and it was often like pulling teeth. Not in this experience. This is how I would sum up my experience. No worries. Moises had a very calm approach, switching anxiety into satisfaction. He didn't grapple over dissatisfaction, he listened then he resolved. No business does everything perfectly. I don't care how good you are. The proof is in how you approach problems and "do-overs". Moises hard working crew transformed our home into a much more contemporary look for not much money or time. Their prep work was very detailed and labor intensive. Due to our proximity to the ocean, their involved prep is very important. We expect this paint job to last a long time, despite the salt air on the coast. After painting our exterior, it was pretty obvious that our interior needed some SERIOUS updating. Cesar of Oceanside stepped in and worked with us for hours on discussing possible color combos/accents for the various rooms in the house. Once again, an incredibly fair price for a complicated (unbeknownst to them, methinks) job. Oceanside moved everything out of the targeted room, primed, sealed, put in two coats of paint, and then moved everything back in. This review is long overdue! In January, Moises and his crew painted the exterior of our 2-story home. Moises is so professional, so friendly and takes a lot of pride in his business. The results were excellent. Moises and his team sand off paint chips, look for rotting side boards and will replace them, putty in gaps and thoroughly pressure wash before beginning the painting process. The crew was so tidy, respectful of our plants around the house and were happy to modify some of the frame lines when we requested the changes. From providing an estimate to clean-up, he was a pleasure to deal with. At the start of the work, Moises spent time with us helping us select the right color. It helped that he had painted so many houses in the neighborhood and so was able to show us examples how the different shades would look with different trims etc. His estimate was straightforward with no extras etc. His crew showed up on-time everyday and were extremely courteous and offered to answer questions and address concerns at every opportunity. I couldn't believe how thorough the prep work was, every gap was caulked and metal surface was treated. Moises found some dry rot on a window frame and fixed it himself charging us for time and materials. The job took about 2 weeks from beginning to end and we are really happy with the results. I was impressed that they came back at my request two times to fix several small areas that needed more paint. I thought the price was fair for this area. They want to make their customers happy. Where do I begin about Moises....the saving grace sent to me from the heavens above. We had our floors and baseboards replaced throughout our new condo. Me, being the DIY person, thought "I can paint the baseboards, walls, etc...no big deal." Wrong! I spent a weekend painting the baseboards and trim while my husband painted the ceilings. When applying the second coat, I realized some paint from the ceiling had dripped on the baseboards, causing me to sand it down only to have the paint start peeling off completely. This less than two weeks before our move in date and I was running out of time. I called Moises on a Monday, he happily met me in the evening. I was almost in tears showing him the peeling paint. He simply said "Even if you don't hire me, here's what you need to do..." Then he proceeded to tell me the first thing I should do is to take the paint back to Lowe's and get my money back and he explained step by step of what I would need to do with the baseboards, trim and doors. I explained to Moises our budget and time constraints and he definitely worked with us. He began on Wednesday, painted the baseboards, trims, 9 doors throughout the house, and the walls/ceilings and closets of the two bedrooms. Moises and his crew were done by Monday. Moises even helped me with my colors. Searching for the "perfect gray" was proving to be the difficult task, especially since I wanted the accent wall in the master bedroom to be blue. I had about 6 shades of gray on the wall when he visited. I had already selected the blue, which he approved of and quickly nixed 5 grays. We were left with one gray, which I really liked and he somewhat approved of, but said we needed to go lighter. So, that's what he did. He took the paint can to OceanShore Hardware, had them match it, then had them go 20% lighter (because I was scared to go any lighter). I came to view it the next day and said "there's too much blue." He asked me to trust him and said that he was going to have them take some blue out of the formula and go a little lighter. And now...I have the perfect gray with no name and just a formula on the can! But I couldn't be happier. I can't wait for Moises and his crew to come and finish the rest of my house....once Moises and I can decide on a color palette. Clearly, I can't make color decisions without his opinion. :-) read more

I interviewing over a 1/2 dozen local painters for my 1750 sq feet 1 level home in the El Granada section of Half Moon Bay. There were several factors who influenced my decision. 1) Price 2) Knowledge of potential painting hiccups (dry rot) and 3) Who would actually be painting my home. We immediately connected with Moises and his price point was a great price point for us. In addition he was painting a local restaurant whom I know wouldn't have hired him without a good reputation and our Awesome Real Estate agent who sold us the house said she had very positive experiences with him in the past (Thanks Marian Bennett - Coldwell Banker). He was patient and didn't make us feel rushed with the process. We thought we had colors picked out, however a consultation with a local color expert had a slight delay. Ultimately resulting in a flawless, fantastic job. Moises had a team of 2-3 guys throughout the process. He wasn't the one who painted, however he watched over these laborers and was always a quick visit/phone call away. The guys worked there A$$'s off between sanding, prepping, and protecting. They were courteous and always let the place cleaner than they found it. We ended up having them also do work on the interior. Again they were responsive, personable and respectful inside our home and I appreciated that. I would highly recommend Moises's Team to complete an exterior or interior job at any time. These guys were great!! We hired them to paint our house in HMB. Moises was responsive and got us set up with an estimate that seemed very reasonable. Our house is a wood-sided bungalow built in 1929, and it had years of old paint built up on the exterior. Moises's guys scraped layers and layers of old paint off by hand, down to the original wood in most places. Then they sanded and power-washed the house before painting primer and final coat. There was a mix-up with the paint trim color, but Moises went and got the right color and re-did the trim right away no problem. Now the house looks beautiful. They did a wonderful job!!
