It has been open sporadically in the past, and it appears now to be open in the winter off-season for a few hours on Sat. & Sun [12-4 PM]. They do have some fruits and veges, including locally grown and on-site. Of course, since this was on X-mas eve, I was not expecting much, since even the nearby Arroyo Grande Farmer's Market was closed for X-mas eve. Since they appeared to be open, I decided to stop by and see if they had some goodies. They had some veges [Persian Cucumbers] and some fruit [including some Citrus from the Central Valley & some Apples as well]. Inside the shop, they sold handcrafted soaps and had a variety of cute things for sale. Outside of the shop, they also had plants for sale. It appears that a friendly local couple is running this combo Farm, Farm Stand, and Shop. I grabbed & snagged a big bunch of Tangerines which one would be surprised to find locally in the winter...but despite the rest of the country is below freezing, we have been super-lucky and X-mas eve here has been like a warm nice beautiful spring day. It really made one want to take a drive out to the country and see if any Farm Stands had anything at all. We got lucky and not only did I snag the Citrus here, but also found some more items at two honor stands. It is really a treat to get some nice local fresh-grown produce for the Holidays. Between an early trip, this past Weds to the AG AM Farmers Market, plus numerous trips to several markets, we now have a whole slew of eats and treats to tide us over for the Holidays. In any case, thanks to Huasna Valley Farm stand, we now have some nice fresh local tasty Citrus that is packed with Vitamin C. Thanks again! I am not quite clear what is up with the default address that is linked with Huasna Farm, but the actual location is not near the tiny village of Huasna itself, but is actually way before it at 2500 Lopez Rd....so please do not drive all the way to Huasna looking for this Farm Stand! Lopez road is an access road that not only heads toward Lopez Lake, but also connects with roads that go thru Edna Valley and the numerous vineyards. Lopez Rd also has at least one nice park along it, and at least one vineyard that also sells fruits/ veges during the more typical growing season.

Of course, given the huge Mexican & Mesoamerican presence in Santa Maria, as well as in general SLO or Santa Barbara Counties, you would kind of expect events that non-Latinx may miss. It is their loss, since many of these events are quite wonderful & you can find foods, veggies, fruits, and more that you cannot find anywhere else, not even in most Latinx Markets....such as an edible purple flower with leaves that taste like spinach. Even after a Google search I still have no idea of what it really is, but it tastes great! There is a pedestrian bridge connecting the indoor mall with this outdoor older mall. We randomly lucked upon this event by stopping by to get something from this mall's Rite Aid, which is one of several interesting stores in this older strip mall. The city's description is a bit dated, so here is what we did see this past friday night. There was a big grand stand for live music and close to it were at least a dozen food trucks and even a few free standing food tents. The food trucks were standard, but the Oaxacan Food Trucks offer some Mesoamerican food which not too many know about. Mesoamericans [some of which were contemporary with Aztecs & their former rivals], are ethnically, culturally, & linguistically rather distinct from each other and from Mexicans as a whole. The predominate group in California is called Mixteca and relatively little is known about the numbers of this group, the culture, their health needs, & more. They and other Mesoamericans are mostly a "hidden people" in the farming & vineyard landscape of much of California. While quite a few also speak Spanish, they mainly speak one of many hundreds, if not thousands of other languages or dialects. Consider them to be a very hard working underserved group, hidden within another bigger underserved group. Other than food, there was a fair number of Swap Meet type tents with all kinds of things for sale including leather boots of all things. There was a tent giving haircuts, a tent for the police department, a tent for Hankock College, and quite a few more. As far as Farmer Product Tents, there was only a few, so calling this a Farmers Market is not quite accurate. Of course, like the Nipomo Swap Meet, this is a fascinating cultural experience, and you feel kind of transported to what can seem like another far-off land in another country. It is yet another example of what the Central Coast of CA has to offer those who wish to really explore the area. If you do miss this seasonal event, I would recommend going to the Nipomo Swap Meet instead. We also have periodic SLO County Mobile Vaccine Clinics for now. Yes, they do sell fruits and vegetables, but the main product here is Hot Pepper Jelly…read more I don't know why they call it "jelly", the texture is more like jam or marmalade with seeds and chunks of pepper flesh in it. And it is definitely not a sauce or paste, so it does not incorporate easily into room temperature liquids (like oil, vinegar, soy sauce, etc.). It is more like a "spread", so you need a little force to spread it. Another cooking option is to dissolve this jelly into hot oil (like stir fry). In fact, I recommend using their jelly in spicy stir fry. Afterglow looks like orange marmalade. It has citrus note, also. I use it for shrimp or chicken stir fry. It is made mostly of habanero pepper. Sting & Linger is made of mostly ghost pepper. I use it for beef or pork stir fry. Its spiciness kicks in slowly and stays and stays. Tastes smokey. Each jar is $8 at the time of this writing.

We found broccoli, fresh salad mix, yellow onions, oranges, jicama, brussel sprouts, and tomato plants. I got great canning tips from Kelly too. My favorite thing I found here today were the ~TAINT HOT~ Pickled Brussel Sprouts! They are amazing. Also had the pickled beets & these are to die for! And the salsa I picked up is perfected! We got a chance to sample three of the Hot Pepper Jelly's and they were great. As we left I got taste the pickled beets, which are next on my list to get! What a great place to visit. I highly recommend!
