I live in Boston and was visiting my folks in Waretown, NJ. I was surprised when Madama came up and after looking at his lineage I decided to give him a ring and see if he accepts drop ins. I've dropped in at several gyms across the east coast and always have a good experience/ learn a lot. Something about Madama though was different, and mostly, it's that I felt at home. When I arrived, Josh ushered me into the gym himself, showed me around and paired me with an experienced training partner who I felt safe with from the git-go. The general format/attitude was relaxed and informal, which I really love, and after learning some new material in class I got a chance to roll a bit with several of the guys there. All tough opponents, but everyone was restrained and I felt they welcomed me in immediately. No big egos here. Afterwards I got to roll with Josh Madama himself, and shoot the breeze a bit. Great BJJ technician, and really just a nice guy. Like I said, I just felt like I was at my local gym and I've never had that level of comfort anywhere else.

I was intimidated at first I suffer from depression ptsd anxiety adhd and more, getting me out of my comfort zone is very hard but highly recommend mentally and as soon as I walked in I was greeted with smiles and warmth. They make you feel like family and it's a non judgment zone for those like me starting out later in life which means everything! ( Been a tough year at home ) I wasn't sure that karate would be something they would enjoy , but after meeting with the owner and watching my kids attend a trial lesson, I signed them up for lessons .I was impressed by the the staff/Team .They are knowledgeable , friendly, and in my opinion, are there because they love what they do . The vibe of the gym feels serious and welcoming . Watching the kids advance through the different stripes and belts has made us all proud . Look morons-we canceled the membership to stop taking classes, not to get stuck taking more. At a cost of nearly $2500.00 in over charges and no refund I suggest you find a place that operates under the moral code they preach.
