Bob Castle just did a dodger for my boat, and he did a great job.Good materials, and great workmanship. Bob isn't cheap, but the quality of what he produces is worth the price. One thing to be aware of: Bob is generally backed up, and it can take quite some time to get the finished product. I ordered my dodger at the end of November 2022, and it was finished in July 2023. Bob let me know about this up front, so no complaints. read more

These guys do top notch work. We added a Bimini to our boat, and along with all the other canvas coverings on the boat, it looks and fits excellent. Every seam, every snap, top quality. They have a large variety of colors to choose from and since most boat owner go with Cobalt Blue, we went with more of a teal color called Persian Green. It's just beautiful & matches the interior decor of our boat. We are now having them do the interior window coverings, and again they have many samples to choose from. I highly recommend them. Thanks Bob & Dave, for a job well done. We're very happy. read more

I have changed this review from a 1 to a 3 star because the damaged window was fixed February 17th finally ! The job was supposed to be completed July 2, 2015. The problem started when fine cuts on one window of a new dodger (cabin door cover) were noticeable and reported to the owner Bob Castle October 24th. It took 2 dozen phone messages, 2 letters, photos, a Better Business Bureau complaint, several calls to his competitor, etc. and very hard feelings to force Bob to fix the window. Bob is a very talented canvas man. One of the best. However like most talented artists, he is hard to work with.... communicate with ...i.e. he has a problem returning calls or talking on the phone at all.. Problems could have been avoided with a phone call. The most infuriating part is Bob's response on our Better Business Bureau complaint that the window cuts were "impact" or "stress" damage .which implies WE caused the damage which is nonsense since the window is covered except when sailing a few hours a month. Bob NEVER inspected the window after the July installation and had NO basis for this accusation. Another infuriating part is Bob showing up at our dock unannounced Dec 21st....NO phone call when our boat was in a repair yard one block away. Lastly to add insult to injury, Bob took our dock key back to his shop after completing the Feb 17th repair forcing us to drive 30 miles to retrieve it. Never-the-less, Bob is the best canvas man and should get 3 stars despite character flaws. Joe Lucido, Catalina 36, Oceanside Harbor. read more

Contacted them twice, once last year, and forgot why I didn't use them, so reached out again, now I recall. They may very well be outstanding at what they do. That said, I'll not find out if that's true or not because of how very difficult they are to communicate with. ""Bob" responded to my voice mail with a text message (strike one on customer service); he asked that I send pictures or bring the materials in. One was the upholstery on the hatch over the engine cover, he wanted that removed and brought to him. Everything business-centric and not customer-centric. When I replied that I certainly can remove the large hatch cover and bring it in, but would like a rough guess as to what cost level the repair could be, he responded "most jobs are cost prohibitive" and suggested I contact the manufacturer (no longer in business) to look into buying a new one. Clearly arrogant and doesn't want the business. Kinda steps on any talent that may be there in my opinion. read more

Contacted Bob in June to build a boat cover for my 26' Striper and to replace the coaming cushions. After getting a very reasonable quote I had him go ahead, knowing up front that it would take 3 months to complete. It's great to be that busy! And his work shows why he is that busy! Just completed the job and I am stoked!! Great fit on the cover, exactly what we had discussed and the new coaming cushions look better than when new. Thanks Bob Castle and Ocean Canvas for doing such a great job. I would highly recommend Bob and Ocean Canvas!! read more

My wife spent 7 thousand with this guy ,I never pretend to be the smartest guy . But I didn't think something was right when the canvas kept coming unsnapped from the buttons attached to the boat .Mid or late February we had a storm and the whole top this guy built was dangling the next day .He did assist my girlfriend when I was at work take it apart and store it .So to sum this dread experience we spent over 7 thousand with this guy and the whole top fell apart . He refused to return phone calls , and blamed us for it .Horrible experience with lack of Profesional service .If I could put no stars I would have read more

Bob and his team just finished replacing the canvas covers on our boat, they added a second bimini for the back, and made a new towing cover for the entire boat. I cannot recommend Bob and his team more highly! The project turned out exactly as I had expected, on budget, and on time. Based upon his experience, Bob made some really great suggestions as to how to accomplish the additional covered areas we wanted, and made it look like it came from the factory that way. Ocean is in high demand, so we did have to wait for the job to start, but Bob told us that during our first meeting (just that he had a backlog - he didn't brag about how in demand they are!) and he communicated with me regularly to keep me posted on the status of when our job would start. All in all, I can't begin to thank him for making a job I had dreaded a very easy and rewarding project. read more

We restored a 2001 Catalina 380 sailboat that needed completely new canvas... dodger, sunshade, bimini , sailbags, winch covers & cockpit cushions. Plus decorative pillows & new foam for the salon cushions. Bob Castle at Ocean Canvas was beyond amazing! He is professional, patient & did the best workmanship we've ever seen. We had to rework the dodger for easy access due to a back injury and he designed that from scratch. We HIGHLY RECOMMEND Ocean Canvas... you will be delighted like us!! read more

I've done several projects ranging from complete custom to simple replacements and have always been pleased. In the summer they are busy but it's worth the wait for the quality. I try to plan big projects during the fall and winter when I can. They're great to work with and help explain the pros cons with different material and approaches and I don't feel I'm getting needlessly upsold. They are my go to for all my canvas needs in Dana Point. read more

Had Bob make me a custom cockpit cover for my Beneteau 40. The initial cover was not quite what I had wanted and thought we had discussed. To Bob's credit he came back and modified the cover at no additional expense. I'm sure he spent a lot more time on this than he had bargained for. Excellent workmanship and going the extra mile to insure my satisfaction were appreciated. read more

We needed repair work on our 10 year old canvas covers and didn't want to spring for a new cover. Bob Castle took our old cover and did a great repair job. New closures, zippers and resew of seams. Workmanship was professional and price was very fair compared to quotes for new cover.. Bob's quote for new cover was slightly below others we received. WOULD DEFINITELY USE BOB AGAIN.. read more
