I had a routine cleaning and some additional dental work done recently. But my comments on this review apply ONLY in regards to routine dental cleaning and Xrays fees $$$ portion only. I was Billed $312.00 for a routine cleaning. This comprised of CLEANING ($97.00) EVALUATION ($56.00) and XRAY's ($159.00). Personally i find $300.00 for just basic routine cleaning, examination & Xrays a bit excessive in this area. I questioned the office about the fees & they stated this is what they bill to insurance companies. As Far as Dr. Alan Johnson he is a very nice person and a excellent dentist. I have no negative views whatsoever about his dental expertise from past experiences. I appreciate his care & kindness for all the years he has been my dentist. Personally, though i am not looking for cheap bargain basement dental care but $300 dental cleaning & examination i find this excessive. But you are a better person to decide what suites best for you. I can not justify semi annual routine dental cleaning at $300.00 each time. My purpose to write this review it's not about STAR rating but to share with consumers the playing field with this dental office. In the end you are a better source to make the decision what suites best in your interest. I give 3 stars just to be able to post my comments on Yelp. I would have preferred to not to have rated. I have known Dr. Johnson for many years, referred friends to him and had nothing but good results…read more He is a brilliant and gifted dentist (in his spare time, he has built his own sailboat out of a kit and is just one of those rare people who is good with his hands and enjoys building things). What I wanted to say here is what an honest professional he is. I went to another dentist who recommended 2 crowns but told me sometimes they don't work and might have to come back for a root canal. He also said I grind my teeth and recommended a $500 mouth guard to wear at night. Dr. Johnson listened to my history and said based on the pain I was having and sensitivity in the nerve, he recommended I see an endodontist for a possible root canal on the one tooth. The other one he said was fine. He had me do some bite tests and said I definitely "clench" my teeth but do not grind and did not need a $500 mouth guard. Dr. Fife, the endodontist did 3D Xrays and said the crack was so large that although he could do a root canal and Dr. Johnson could do the crown, in a year or two I would be back with an infection and we would be back where we started and I would need an extraction and implant. So, instead of doing the root canal that would have made him more money, he referred me back to Dr. Johnson, who referred me to Dr. Adam Clark, an oral surgeon who did the extraction today and is a 5 star oral surgeon in his own right! It is so rare these days to find a professional who will give you high quality professional treatment and give you the advice that is best for you - not him! I highly recommend Dr. Alan Johnson as a great and gifted dentist who really looks out for the best interests of his patients.

I messed up in my 20's and my teeth aren't in the best shape so I've avoided the dentist until today when I was struck down with an infection and pain level 1,000. I called and the female receptionist was super sweet said she can get me in today at 1:45. I walk in to fill out the forms and I'm ushered back to the room. Everyone is so nice and welcoming regardless of what insurance you do have. This is the first time in my life where a dentist runs you through exactly what's going on, what needs to be accomplished, EDUCATES you on your choices, and then let's you decide the next step. Zero pressure. Instead of forcing any work down your throat - they just lay it out as it is. I had pain and he gave me antibiotics along with a pain reliever which is finally kicking in. They also gave me a cleaning and he was adamant to avoid the troubled tooth. I felt so comforted by their level of compassion. As I was leaving, there was a new receptionist there. Not sure if it's his wife or what the relationship was but she treated me with massive compassion due to my pain and insurance situation as there is a lot of work to be done. All I can say is call them. Don't email. Business is hard enough in these times but this office is hands down the best experience I've had. I'm actually looking forward to working away little by little with the business. Seriously... you won't regret coming here. I'm just blown away by how nice everyone was here. It didn't feel like I was in California. It felt like I was in a small town place where everyone knows your name and treats you like family. Plus... it's a newer office so everything is so clean! I could hear him in the next room chit chatting. When he finally saw me he said I needed a CT scan to determine how close the nerves were to my lower wisdom teeth. He kept saying I waited too long to get my teeth pulled (I have serious surgery anxiety) and I don't have a time machine to go back in time to get my teeth pulled. In any case, I had time to take the additional scans but I wouldn't have time to wait for him to make his rounds again. He said he would review the scans to determine the risk level, make a recommendation and give me a call. I didn't have to schedule the surgery date as the front office had already scheduled my surgery appt when I scheduled the consultation. Fast forward about 4 days and it's the day of the surgery. There was a mix up with the anti anxiety medication that was prescribed caused by the office / CVS and after multiple phone calls, I had to forego the prescription and head to the office for surgery. When I checked in, I stated he never called me about whether I would be getting 2 or 4 impacted wisdom teeth pulled. They assured me that he would discuss it with me. They take me back to the room and the dental assistant does her best to calm my nerves. She was really sweet. After 20+ min, the oral surgeon enters the room and I ask whether he made a decision as to whether it was too risky, he stated again that was why I shouldn't have waited so many years to get my teeth pulled. Then he said I made the appt to get all 4 teeth pulled. I panicked. I let him know my surgery was scheduled before I even had my consultation. I asked him for his recommendation. He said there was risk either way. Under extreme anxiety and no time to think it out, I made the decision to go with all 4. I knew I'd never have the nerve to go through this again. He administered the anesthesia himself and I was knocked out. Why did I have to pay additional $$ to get CT scans that weren't even used? The surgery went seemingly okay. I was sent home with multiple pages of instructions (that happened to contradict each other) but was able to call the office for follow up questions. After the shots wore off, I had no feeling in my lower gums, lower lip and chin. My first follow up visit was pretty pointless as the oral surgeon wasn't even there. I went back another week later for a second follow up, and spoke to the oral surgeon. He stated he never saw the nerves during surgery so it was odd that I was so numb. He also let me know that whatever feeling hadn't returned in 4 months, wouldn't likely return. It's been 4 months, full feeling has not returned yet. I guess I just have to live this way. Overall, I couldn't recommend this surgeon. I know it could have been worse but it could have gone a lot better. There was too much confusion, not enough follow through and the outcome was less than desirable.

No one calls back after leaving a voicemail. I had to call mission viejo office to get Covina to respond. I seriously don't know how they run a Drs office by never answering the phone. I'm surprised someone answered in order for me to schedule the consult. Walk in for the appt and there's no staff anywhere. Waited about 15 min for someone to show up. The front desk woman is not very good at her job. She said she needed the referral and my son can't be seen without it. I told her I'll have insurance fax the approved referral. She said no, I need the referral from the Dr. what she meant to say was she needed the referring Drs notes, which were already there. Review your charts before the patient comes in. Duh. If I had ppo insurance I'd go to mission viejo but unfortunately I have hmo right now which mission viejo does not accept. I dont trust the office with the care of my son. Dr Johnson was great but if you can't depend on the staff, it's useless.

I was afraid to go through the dental x-ray because of the pain and discomfort. Moreover, I was afraid to have a root canal because that is new to me. So I decided to just have my teeth removed. But Dr. Arkhavan's calm yet confident and sincere demeanor removed my fear. Before he could discuss with me the two options to choose, I was already convinced to go for the dental treatment that Dr. Arkhavan would prefer based on his expertise. Dr. Arkhavan understands the patients and he allows them to freely choose the treatment they would prefer. From my own experience, Dr. Arkhavan is indeed very skilled, calm and thorough. His actions proves he knows what he's doing and he does it very well! In addition, Dr. Arkhavan rubbed a generous amount of numbing gel on my gums and waited for about for 10 minutes before he injected anesthesia so that I barely noticed the needle on my gums. He also focused on what I came there for so that I don't have to wait for the next visit. Right away he treated my infected teeth and prescribed antibiotics and pain relievers. I was very moved and thankful. Dr. Arkhavan's staff were very friendly and welcoming! They made me feel at home. They were kind, caring and approachable. I could speak and reason with them comfortably. They made it easy for me to communicate with them. They were gentle and listened with compassion and that really calmed me. It means a lot.  Popup Smiles' dental office in San Juan Capistrano has a clean, elegant and calming environment. I like how it is a dental office but it has a fresh aroma that gives a feeling of comfort and relaxation. It's like a perfect way to ease one's mind. I felt so blessed to have found them.

Disclaimer: This happened back in 2019…read more At this point I had been coming into Genesis Dental for a few years and had already been somewhat unhappy as it seemed that my dental work was being rushed. Fast forward a bit, and I had just changed jobs and thus had a new insurance policy. I called the office ahead of my appointment with my new policy information and was assured that it would not be an issue. After my very rushed appointment I went home and didn't think much of it until about two weeks later when I got a bill in the mail saying my insurance was declined. I called the office and spoke to the receptionist who assured me that they made an honest mistake and would update to my new policy. Low and behold a week or so later I get another letter saying I have an unpaid balance and that they were threatening to send me to collections. Furious, I called them and told them I'd be coming into the place to make sure they update their systems because this was just unprofessional and unacceptable. I came in, physically watched them update my information then correctly bill my insurance. I then asked them to pull my record so I could provide my file to a new dentist that I was already in contact with. They seemed surprised and I told them it was bad enough I needed to remind them 3 times to update my insurance, but threatening to send me to collections for their mistake was the final straw. Sure enough, my insurance settled the bill and I never had to deal with this awful dental practice ever again. Also my new dentist informed me it took her three attempts for them to actually send my record over when I shared my frustrations with her. Also she found a cavity that was pretty decayed at that point proving my earlier preconceived notion that the dental work was being rushed.
