We had a very disappointing and concerning experience with Dr. Suzie Um following my wife Shahida Shahid's full-mouth extraction on January 12, 2026. Before the procedure, we fully disclosed her serious medical conditions, including severe IBS, malabsorption, and immune-related complications that make repeat surgeries and anesthesia especially difficult and risky for her. After the extractions, we discovered that alveolar ridge preservation (bone grafting) was not performed. When we later asked why this critical step had been omitted, we were not given a clear explanation. We have since consulted other dental professionals who advised us that, because too much time has passed, attempting the procedure now may no longer be effective. What is most troubling is that we were never informed beforehand that bone grafting would not be done, nor were we advised about the potential consequences such as accelerated bone loss and limitations for future dental restoration options. Had we known, we would have made different decisions regarding treatment. As a result, my wife may now require additional surgical procedures that she may not be medically able to tolerate. This situation has caused significant physical pain, emotional distress, treatment delays, and financial burden. We are sharing this experience so that other patients -- especially those with complex medical conditions -- understand the importance of asking detailed questions about treatment planning, bone preservation, and post-extraction care before proceeding with major dental procedures. I was under duress searching for a pediatric surgeon to perform a supernumerary extraction procedure on my 5yo old son. After an extensive search and finding 3 surgeons, I opted to go with LFSO / Dr Um. Reasons being are that their office staff was very helpful and transparent, and Dr Um stood out as a clear cut expert in this procedure. BTW, I was convinced enough that I commuted all the way from LA county and chose them over some local surgeons. I had a molar extracted by Dr. Suzin Um last week, my experience was as good as it can be given the circumstances. Two weeks prior to my procedure I had a consultation with her and her team, we discussed my options, we also talked about how much my insurance would cover, and how much would be out of pocket. Then I discussed this plan with my regular dentist, and we came up with a plan. The procedure was swift and painless, granted I had anesthesia, but during the recovering period the level of discomfort was minimum, and she and her office staff checked up on me via text for a couple of days after the surgery. Dr. Um is the worst doctor I've ever seen. Her treatment plan for a tooth extraction was so invasive that it would've severely impacted my quality of life. I'm lucky I got a second opinion and received exceptional care from another provider. Here is why I would not recommend Dr. Um: -She misdiagnosed me, she said that an extraction would've caused nerve damage. My general dentist and oral surgeon, whom I got a second opinion from, said that the only reason this will happen is if it's not done correctly. -She recommended a CT scan, however, the doctor I got a second opinion from said it was not needed for treatment. -She sent a summary report to my general dentist with so many discrepancies. He said that in all of his years of being a dentist, he had never received such a poorly written report from a surgeon. -She told me that I couldn't be awake for the procedure because I would be in severe pain. Even though the Dr. I got a second opinion from did the procedure under local anesthesia. Her prices were so unreasonable too, the cash price for a tooth extraction would've cost me $3,056. Anesthesia alone would've been $1,177, which is crazy!! No wonder she was pushing me to be out. It's also my perception that Dr. Um is pretentious, she came off very uncaring, she showed no empathy and was unapologetic when I spoke to her about her mistakes. Now, if you find yourself in the same situation as me under her care, please seek a second opinion. I went to Honest Oral Surgery in Irvine. Dr. Kim extracted my tooth under local anesthesia, no nerve damage, no pain whatsoever and paid a fraction of the price. Lastly, Dr. Um is unethical. She has a sign in the front desk that's says, "Starbucks on us, just ask" and below is a Google sticker that's says "review us". We saw Dr Suzin Um for a supernumerary tooth. Her manner in handling things was extremely upsetting. They are extremely worried about getting their money. I had to explain my benefits to the front office so they would back off about charging me a consult fee which my insurance covered at 100%. I went in knowing exactly what my benefits were and what was and wasn't covered. They didn't do their due diligence in getting accurate information from my dental insurance. I was also forced into taking a CBCT that was unnecessary according to a second opinion I received. That cost me $205 out of pocket which I had to pay up front which insurance didn't cover. I knew my insurance didn't cover it, so I didn't want to take one, but she guilted me into it saying without it, she would have no clear indication of how to proceed. If it was seriously a necessary image, insurance would have covered it...and all the other dentists I saw would have told me to take one. She was the only one. Also they even billed my insurance for it trying to double dip in case insurance did pay. How disgusting. Even before discussing the issue with the extra tooth, and even before taking the CBCT, Dr Um jumped to surgery immediately and started discussing post-operative care. I was still wrapping my head around there being a weird extra tooth and had lots of questions, and she was talking about what medications would be taken for pain after surgery. What the heck!??? It was obvious her care was not for the patient and all she really wants is to make money and cut you open. I saw someone else and will not be back. read more

After reading the reviews I gave the office a call. From the first interaction it appeared they were genuinely concerned and addressed the need we had immediately. When we arrived for the appointment, the staff was very professional and extremely caring. We were ushered in within a minute (none of the waiting craziness). Enter Dr. Um. Wow, she really explained every option, risk, potential outcome and details from the x-rays. To say that the office and the doctor illustrated great patience with us would be an understatement. The case was complicated due to travel issues, and they were an incredible team supporting the waivering back and forth of do-the extraction, or wait a while, all along with a sense of humor! I cannot emphasize enough how we have found the only place anyone in our family will ever go for these oral needs. What a truly professional office. Two final comments would be: there was no gross perfumed air freshener or plug-in to force a false smell of cleanliness which we really appreciate, and last, they were very respectful about our desire to limit radiation exposure from imaging. The procedure was quick & seamless & I recovered extremely quickly. They made me feel really comfortable & explained what will be happening step by step. I did have some complications about 4 weeks after my procedure (the area was infected, most likely some food was stuck in the wound). I was referred to Dr. Um by my orthodontist for wisdom teeth removal. At first I just wanted to see if I should remove one of my wisdom teeth that was already breaking through the gum, but after checking with Dr. Um, I realized it would be better for me to extract all of them. As someone who's perfectly healthy and never used any kind of general anesthesia before, I was extremely scared of the surgery. I even thought about 100 ways to die in the office. BUT! I just wanted to say: sedation is awesome!! Sedation is awesome! Sedation is awesome!!! I didn't feel a thing, and I didn't even remember how I got into the car after the surgery. The pain did come back in a few hours, but that was totally tolerable, and the worst part for me was just hunger... And my face became really square on the 4th day so that was annoying. When my son, age 16, had a routine dental cleaning at our family dentist, we learned he had two impacted wisdom teeth as well as..
