As far as I can remember, it was just like walking into a sweet shop as there was such a variety of bicycles to choose from. It is not like one of those big stores where you seem a bit lost because at Oban Cycles, it feels more personal when the shop owner greets you and provides priceless tips and advice for your knowledge. Staff are not there just to sell quality brands of bikes but also to carry out repairs and sell all the necessary equipment you'll need to maintain your bike and stay safe on the roads (e.g. helmets). Also to mention, they even sell scooters! The service in general is very good. Staff definitely know their trade and you can put your trust in them. If you're after a decent bike, there's a great chance you can find the perfect one at Oban's at affordable prices.

I prefer controlling something with four wheels that offers me a bit more protection if I hit something. Plus, you don't get saddle sore in a car (unless you drive it weird, anyway). However, I recently visited College Cycles in Crosby with a friend and was pleasantly surprised by the selection of bikes on offer there. From the outside, the shop doesn't look particularly big but inside they make good use of the space, ensuring there is a large selection of bikes in various shapes and sizes on show. Their prices are pretty reasonable and competitive and their service is both efficient and personal, with their staff offering friendly advice and help whenever needed. I'll stick to four wheels myself, but if you're more of a two-wheeler kind of person then maybe check out College Cycles.

Which is no surprise me, as Jack Parker Cycles of Burscough is a bit of a legend locally, and certainly the first name on the lips of many casual cyclists for miles around. And I've also encountered 'serious' road cyclists in the store every time I've been there. I've had a couple of bikes serviced here, and the price seemed reasonable enough. Jack himself is a very warm and friendly personality and the other staff I've dealt with have all been communicative, businesslike and skilled mechanics. As with most local cycle shops, Jack Parker cram a huge amount of stock into a small space and there are more bikes on display on the first floor. Recently, I was in the market for a new bike and visited several bike shop, including Jack Parker. It was a mountain bike with less nubby tires I was after, and the range of Claude Butler bikes that Jack Parker had on offer were not on display elsewhere. These Claude Butler bikes were all competitively priced, and somehow represented a pragmatic choice. For example, puncture proof tyres came fitted as standard whereas these needed to be bought separately for most bikes on sale at other shops. I notice Jack Parker are now offering cycle hire, at least to get you to Martin Mere WWT, and I think that would make a great day out from Manchester or wherever - catch a train to Burscough or Burscough Bridge Train Station both of which are close to the cycle shop. Lastly, yes, of course you can find some great deals online for cycles and accessories. But if you don't know what you're doing, you can just as easily waste money or end up with a bike which doesn't match your needs as well as it might. If you're local, and you only plan to visit one bike shop, you won't go wrong with Jack Parker for practical buying advice, after-sales service and the inevitable repairs in the years ahead.

TOTAL FRAUD COMPANY…read more They sold me faulty trainers then they sent me a postage label to return this and then said the parcel was lost. If the parcel is lost they should have insurance that covers this as my trainers were expensive. They chose the courier and are a huge company they have to have insurance. Whenever I contact them for refund they give me a fake time frame to respond and then do not respond. IT HAS BEEN 2 MONTHS AND NO REFUND. This company should be penalised. If for example a customer was to shoplift a pair of trainers from their store worth £65 they would be arrested and have a criminal record. There would be repercussions. However for a huge company scamming me out of my hard earned money there is no repercussion. I wish this company gets closed down as what they are doing is illegal and against the law. On Trustpilot and most other review sites this company has been scamming loads of customers and not giving a refund and many people say their parcel has been lost or never arrived. It seems like so many people are not being refunded and are just talked into a conversation that goes round in circles.

Took my old (2021) trusty for a service. Had really high hopes judging by the reviews (and price) …read more I wasn't in a hurry,left the bike with cyclehouse for about two weeks. Work required: service, and upon furter inspection: new chain, new cassette, new break pads back&front. Asked for the tyre change (brought my own set) Work completed by the shop: full (mid level £100)service + new chain & new casette, guys changed the tyres free of charge which I thought, was a nice touch. Issues: 1. don't get me wrong, my bike wasn't super clean but I'd thought if you're changing the chain and cassette you'd at least wipe/clean the derailleur including pulleys as well as the hub & front sprockets down from the old buildup grease and dirt/gunk. It looks a mess. Makes you think what is actually included in that 'full service' 2. Gears - after collecting and taking the bike for a test drive, noticed that rear cassette was grinding on two or three mid cogs, took it back for a "re-tune", now it's engaging on all but is very noisy and still grinding slightly on two smallest cogs. I'm no expert but maybe slight frond derailleur adjustment would help? 3. Breaks - I thought I'll do them myself as it was a tad more expensive than I would normally pay for the pads; came to changing them and the rear safety pin is missing and I'm 100% sure it was there when I dropped the bike off at cyclehouse

I didn't have a clue what I was looking for but I left there with the perfect bike for me. The after sales are as good if not better! The guys in the workshop must be sick of me! They assembled the bike originally and have been great ever since. They have offered me all sorts of advice. I've had a couple of accidents on the bike whilst I was getting use to cycling for the first time. The accidents left me a little nervous and left my bike requiring a safety check. The guys were quick to reassure me not to worry, just to bring the bike in at my convenience. The turn around on my bike was just 24 hours and the communications were excellent. The service in here is first class, the staff are so friendly and helpful. Even if you go in looking for a pair of gloves you'll probably end up buying one of these crazy Brompton bikes for over a grand! They always have plenty of stock to ensure customers don't leave empty handed, and they will let you test ride if prearranged.
