From the variety of food trucks and local food vendors to the fresh produce and unique artisan crafts, there was so much to explore. It was a fun way to spend the morning, and I discovered several delicious vendors that I'll definitely be coming back for. Afterward, I checked out their Instagram and learned that the Linden Hills Farmers Market is held every Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. They also seem to be very responsive on social media if you have questions about the weekly vendor lineup or what's available that weekend. I can't wait to come back and see what new vendors and treats I'll discover next time!

It was a chilly Spring Saturday when I visited, so not as crowded as I'd anticipate it would normally be on a Saturday around 11:45am. This is a laid back atmosphere with plenty of local vendors. I noticed baked goods, honey, vegetables, food vendors, and more. Pretty good variety. I also noticed that the list of vendors change as well. Although it was quite chilly (I should have brought my light winter jacket), it was nice to stroll the farmers market as it's one of my favorite things to do this time of year. I did notice on the sign while walking into the market dogs are not allowed, hours are 9am-1pm on Saturdays, and it's held rain or shine. Bonus, free street parking! I'm thinking I'll likely be back sometime later this summer.

Bouquets of flowers that are different each week, in-season fruits and vegetables, including uncommon options like Japanese eggplant and kohlrabi, small batch honey and maple syrup, jams and jerky, mushrooms, and tons of baked goods. There are also artists selling fishing lures, soaps, natural bug spray, woodworking, candles, jewelry and more. I love going in the morning and picking up breakfast there. For example, the vegan berry smoothie from Great Northern Microgreens I initially tried with some trepidation, but is now something I come back for (and I'm not the only one, because sometimes there is que of people waiting for smoothies). A croissant or quiche or muffin from one of the many bakeries is always a good option (and then I inevitably pick up dessert for later. A favorite treat of mine are the chocolate chip shortbread from Great Harvest Bread Co). Mogi Bagel has a huge following, and they are often sold out of most flavors by halfway through (see photo with a single bundle left at 11 am), so either pre-order your bagels for pick up, or get there early. The bagels are small, light and soft. They are easily compressible rather than being dense. The Cacio e Pepe flavor is pictured, and it was yummy lightly toasted with butter. Very flavorful. Speaking of yummy- Yummytizers has many great dips, but my favorite item are their veggie chips (not pictured because they had okra this week instead, but I was reassured the chips would be back next week). Delicious, colorful, and low-guilt! Most vendors give samples, so you can walk around the market trying bites and sips, then go back to get your favorites. There are also many vendors selling hot food, from spring rolls to pakora, to empanadas and breakfast sandwiches. No matter when you arrive, there will be something delicious to eat. Pro tip: There is a master gardener station, where you can ask for help identifying that random maybe-bush-maybe-tree growing in your yard, so take a photo beforehand. There are dining tables and chairs under a tent, so there is cover from rain and sun, as needed. And there is usually an activity that is kid-friendly (like a coloring station). There are no dogs allowed at this market, so leave your pets at home. Parking is possible either on the main street or on side streets and isn't that hard to find, as people are constantly coming and going. A great local event to check out when you have friends or family visiting!

So we walked around the food court area, most of the stalls were closed. I appreciated the variety of eateries available. We spent time browsing the mini grocery area, where they sell various interesting items such as honey comb and Turkish delight. My friend bought dried chamomile flowers in bulk to make tea. It was only a quarter the price of buying chamomile tea bags! In the building were some interesting art sculptures. I really like mixed use spaces like this.

The highlight of my week during the summer months is my Thursday walk down Nicollet Mall to buy flowers, fruit, and tasty breads. Bring your cash, as I don't think there is a single vendor who accepts cards. If you forget, there are about a thousand ATMs in the Downtown area, so you've got no excuse. I'm a big fan of the street performers who take advantage of the huge crowds - this year, there was a gal with an accordion with her guitar/banjo strumming friend wowing the masses! Lots of meat vendors, the pork chops we got were amazing. Also, many local honey vendors, flowers, as well as bread items. I cannot get over the bakery items. I was able to get a great sourdough round and some baguettes for dinner. My daughter loves these spicy cheddar rolls from one of the vendors (keep a look out for them). You cannot go wrong. It is in a central spot that makes this easy to get to, free parking and it is open fairly year round. As a tidbit, it is right next to my favorite coffee shop that makes a great Vietnamese coffee!!! The market is in a parking lot with plenty of left-over space for parking. It focuses exclusively on fresh vegetables, herbs and some flowers. The enormous variety of greens I found here left me dizzy. For the first time in the USA, I found red amaranth greens!! And then, jute greens - yes, they are delicious stir-fried with garlic. There were gorgeous squash blossoms as well as tender squash greens. There were several greens that were new for me and the vendors, many of them women, suggested how to cook them. I got a huge bouquet of zinnias for $5, and big fat bundles of basil, cilantro, dill, each for a dollar. The market also had more common produce like cucumber, green beans, zucchini, spring onions, new potatoes, etc. I am definitely driving across town to this farmers' market - can't wait for Saturday to arrive.

Most of the vendors sell the exact same items for the same price so there's not really an advantage to walking around and browsing. The market itself is located in the parking lot of a strip mall so you can just assume anytime you go there on the weekends the lot is going to be a huge cluster. Prices range from $1-$10 for items and it really is limited to fruits, vegetables, and maybe some flowers depending on the season. If you are looking to spend a couple hours browsing for unique breeds of fresh produce, flowers, hot food vendors, or gourmet/artisan items...THIS MARKET IS NOT FOR YOU. If you happened to forget to pick up some carrots or lettuce from the grocery store in the strip mall as you are walking out to your car, this market might be a better fit. I would say if you don't live in the frog town area, it's just not worth the stress of University Avenue and pedestrian traffic for the trip out here.
