I absolutely love this place but there are a couple of improvements that can be made. The pool closes at 9pm, it would be really nice if they could make it 10pm and give that last hour to adults to swim. More often than not my room is missed certain terms, for instance 3 bottles of lotion instead of a. Shampoo and conditioner. Last visit my room was out of Kleenex, toilet paper, shampoo, conditioner and creamer packets. More often then not the pool has no towel's available, so plan accordingly. There are also no microwaves in the rooms. A little more attention to detail on the cleaning would be excellent. This visit the fridge still had the last persons butter in the fridge, the room before there was a six pack ring on the counter and a make up sponge on the floor. They also place people with dogs right beside people with no dogs when 9/10th of the resort is empty. The pub also closes very early. I continue to chose to stay here because it is remarkably beautiful, everything the grounds, the beach and even the buildings. I love the tongue and groove and the log beam feel. The staff are kind and generous. The rates are on par. And the balconies and room patios are excellent. The fireplaces are also a nice touch. The beds are comfy and the WiFi is fast. And the pool is big, warm, beautiful and clean. Thank you Oakwood for becoming my safe haven I look forward to my next visit read more

No longer worth the price. This used to be considered a nicer hotel but has gone downhill. We stayed in the pine lodge and the rooms are very shabby and worn for costing $275 a night. We had a family of 4 and were given 3 towels. When we asked for a 4th we were told they were short on towels. The indoor pool was very dirty. We were told it closes at 11pm then someone came in at 8pm and told everyone to leave because they were closing early. read more

We just returned from our third stay at the Oakwood. Last time was pre pandemic. Things have gone down there. Still love the location, grounds, private beach and the staff are lovely but.... The first two times we stayed in the lodge with the pool. This time we chose to stay in the long house thinking it would be a nice change. The windows don't open so the room smelled damp and musty. I went to buy air freshener and that helped a bit. The walls in some areas could have been wiped down better, had to wipe what looked like blood off the wall in the area with the fridge and hangers. The bathroom could have looked cleaner when we arrived...toilet not super clean...ew. We are a family of four and there were only three shower towels. Our picnic table had been moved over to another room's patio and so we had to carry it back to our patio ourselves. Did not love the new "no cleaning the room throughout the stay" rule. Trips to the beach meant we were tracking sand in, if they aren't going to clean the room a broom and dustpan in the room would be nice as we were there three nights. Paid for 4 nights but we decided to leave a night early. We had to call to refresh supplies and then wait for them to bring them. The breakfast buffet seems watered down from before but still pretty good for the price. All of the wait staff we encountered were friendly and attentive no issues there! There were beer cans in the bushes outside of our room. Our kids used to love the video games in the basement of Dave's pub but those were all gone. They still have ping pong and Foosball though which was fun. I'm not sure we would choose to stay here again if we go back to Grand Bend. read more

Resort grounds are beautiful and well maintained. Rooms are cozy (we stayed in The Oak Lodge) and very clean. Staff very polite and accommodating. We had dinner at Dave's one night which was your regular type pub fare. Another night we had dinner at The Oak Dining Room for the buffet. This was a BIG disappointment; food was scarce and mediocre. The night we were there they had a pasta dish that tasted like it was made with a store bought jarred tomato sauce. Other items included a pork tenderloin that was dry, pulled chicken which was good, rice which was ok, some soggy vegetables and stale bread. Dessert table was tiny. We stayed at Oakwood Resorts for our first visit to Grand Bend for a wedding. Our initial impression was great. A lovely setting with great views... of the Golf Course. We ate at Dave's Pub the first night - the drinks were good and service was good but the food left a lot to be desired. The caesar salad was essentially wet lettuce with shredded mozzarella cheese. The other items were ok - and the price was reasonable. I played 9 holes of golf which was a good deal - and the course is quite nice. The rooms / service of the hotel were not what you expect for a $200 / night place. I showered one morning in ankle deep shower water as the drain wasn't working - called immediately and was told someone would come and fix it. When it was time to shower for the wedding the drain was not fixed and no one had come - I called again to voice my displeasure and they sent someone immediately - which didn't help because we were getting ready. The rooms are also extremely dark - but I guess you shouldn't be hanging in your room. I like the mini fridges - and each room has a coffee maker. Also - some of the credit card machines were not functioning properly so sometimes my card would work and sometimes not - which could have been an issue come check out. Nice location and the rooms were comfortable enough - probably give this place a 2.5 but it wasn't a-ok so I'm hesitant to rate it as such... The beach is easy to get to and they provide towels for the beach (albeit tiny ones) which is great. read more

Had booked this resort 6 months prior, 355$ for a hotel room with 2 queen beds, a small bar fridge...no microwave, this resort is an example of why AIR Bnb are going to make the hotel/resort type accommodations obsolete. The definition of a 'tourist trap'. Don't know about you, but, I did expect a little gougery but this was absolutely not worth the hefty price tag. First of all ,check in is at 4, which is per usual, I've had 4pm check ins before, which is no problem if the room is ready. It's a nice touch that they let guests use the amenities until checkin, which I was told would be 4pm, i left family and friends at beach to get a head start on unloading, and was told room was not ready. I expected a 10-15 minute wait, so decided to sit in front lobby. An entire hour passed and was pretty much ignored by front staff, I asked if room was ready as I was waiting an hour in the lobby , RIGHT IN FRONT OF THEM! , I realize I look young and not 'well to do' but I'm still paying a small fortune for one night stay. The guests checkout at 11( the latest) that is 5 hours to get room ready ! They gave 20$ off which I used to buy two ice cream drumsticks and a bottle of water (over 20$) for the kids, SMH! Then we decided to take advantage of the 24$ all u can eat Mexican buffet which was supposed to end at 9pm, we arrived at 8:45 and were told buffet is closed even though many people were still serving themselves at the buffet, fine as this is the only food option in the resort, all dishes started at around 20$, my wife ordered the marguerita pizza which was 20$, it tasted like frozen pizza from no frills, horrible. I ordered the 20$ burger which was not good either...usually 20$ burgers are pretty good, not this one. Go into grand bend to eat avoid this read more

What a delish dinner the other night. Ribs as main course, watermelon salad ... yum. Patio was the perfect place to have a safe social distance dinner. The view was lovely. The staff are extremely well trained in keeping it sanitized & following all the safe COVID requirements. Special mention for the new Food and Beverage Director. He is a top draw sommelier & his wine choice was amazing. His customer service ... you can't get any better. We will definitely be back. It's a gem of a place. read more

Spent a night at oak wood with family recently Rooms were very clean and beds comfy Since it rained almost all day, kids were looking for activities. Well the game room looks like 1950 era, musty and in need of upgrading. The pool is actually hazardous for your health, with a small window for ventilation and no air exchanger or vent fan Now, the buffet in the oak room was The worst meal I have ever experienced. Salad bar not refreshed, the desert bar not refilled, staff non existent. The over priced buffet should be avoided at all costs Not one meat item with the exception of overcooked pieces of ham. The reception was very friendly and helpful. We paid for a deluxe room in Oak Lodge but there was nothing deluxe about it; just like a regular cheap hotel room. There was no screen door with the patio door to our "balcony" as there was on the other rooms. The patio door lock was broken and very difficult to lock. The security bar was also broken. I didn't feel like our things were secure. The duvet cover was dirty and I had to ask twice for a clean one. Plastic cups were not replaced by housekeeping and we had to go find our own, but the rooms were pretty clean. The free wi-fi was horribly slow and kept cutting out. Dave's Pub & Grill was very disappointing. The service was bad. The appetisers and food all came out at the same time. My husband's sea bass didn't look like or taste like sea bass and was not even good. My daughter's pasta was tasteless. My crab cakes were pretty good. Our water was never refilled and our server was scarce. The Oak Dining room was not any better. You walk in to a room with no servers or staff. The first time we just walked out, the second time we tried my daughter had to go look for someone. The pool was nice enough. Not sparkling clean but I've seen a lot worse. The hot tub was very small and full of sand. They ran out of pool towels many times and we had to go looking for them. The reception at the Lakeside spa was unfriendly and unhelpful. We ended up not making any appointments. The beach access was convenient and the beach was great. I will not be paying that much money again to stay at a less than mediocre resort. read more

My boyfriend stayed at Oakwood for two nights last week and had an amazing time. Having such close access to the beach was very nice to go down and watch the sunset. The staff was amazing. When we checked in the front desk provided ice for us so we could bring some beverages to the beach while we waited for our room to be ready. They called us when the room was ready to let us know. The staff in the pub were super fun and outgoing and the Housekeeping staff told us jokes and did an amazing job. I worked here 20 years ago and I think the place just keeps getting better and better. Thank you Oakwood Inn for an amazing experience! read more

Paid top dollar for region ($249/night) but got $49/night service, attitude & performance. Beautiful grounds but needs maintenance (duct tape on screen door, smells in bathroom, needed to re-hang one room door before it would close). Check-in was chaos - clerk took information, took phone call in middle and then walked away. General attitude was that guests were disturbing staff leisure. Closed game room early so attendant could go home. Refused late check-out. Allowed loud group to take over common room in residence building until well after midnight, excluding other guests from "shared" facility. Need to develop a resort mentality to charge this price. read more

ive been coming to the oakwood for 20 years. the price of this hotel has gone up waay too high. the gym is a joke- the treadmill turned off every 2 minutes, the bike was weird, and the elliptical resistance was messed up and it was hot in the room; they should just get rid of the workout room all together its that bad. the bathrooms are so tiny and the shower drain wouldn't empty too well. the quality of this hotel should be much better for the steep price. the price of this hotel seems to be worth 175$. i love grand bend but they need to either lower the price or improve the oakwood. read more

Our accommodations were bleak. Despite there being a lot of vacancy in the hotel we were given a 'suite' in the basement. When we asked about it on check out - we were told we could have asked for a better room or rate when we checked in but now it was too late. (So best to complain right away with this place!) The food was beyond terrible. We were served house wine under the guise of chianti (that bad.) AVOID the buffet! (You'd eat the same at Costco on sample night.) STICKY carpets in the dining area as well. Gross. The sports bar service was a bit slow - the food was better, but pricey. Beach access is a little bit of a walk. There are NO amenities at the beach which is also not soft and sandy. There is no washroom, there is no hospitality. Much of the resort is a golf course. It should really read "Oakwood Golf Course. . . oh, and a resort." Terrible service. Mediocre to poor accommodations. NO entertainment to speak of (despite high season) and really really REALLY bad food. (We didn't even attempt breakfast in that place!) AVOID! read more
