Mad Hatter Chimney & Roofing

Mad Hatter Chimney & Roofing

We hired Glen to inspect and clean (if needed) the fireplace in a wood burning stove in the house…read moremy husband and I are in the process of purchasing. He overcharged us for the inspection and never even looked up the chimney or got on the roof for the inspection. When we got the full report from the home inspector he had photos of a lot of creosote buildup in the chimney from the roof. We never got an inspection report from Glen either. When I asked him to go back out and explained that he may have overcharged us he apologized and said he would make it up to us. He said he would get there the next day, a Thursday. He did not actually go until Saturday when we were not present and I did not hear from him until Wednesday, after multiple calls from us, our real estate agency and my insurance agent. These papers were due the Thirsday before, as I told Glen on the phone, and we were concerned this would push back our closing date. When he finally answered he said he was charging us $20 more for filling out the report from our insurance company and taking photos of the fireplace. When I questioned this he threatened to withhold the report that was due the week before. $20 is not that much money, and had he quoted me that to start with it would not be an issue, but he was extremely rude on the phone, overcharged us twice, and frankly did not do what we paid him to do in the first place. Had the inspector not noticed the creosote buildup we would have assumed it was clean and safe and could have had a fire in our new home because of his neglect. On top of everything the one and only photo we actually needed for insurance was too blurry for the insurance company to accept and now we need to have the photo taken again.
