This service is a joke except it's no fun; it's just comical how bad transit organizers can be.
1. The phone line at Oakville transit is open 8:30 - 4:30. If you call, prepare for a 20 minute wait on hold. And if you call after 4 pm like I did the other day, at 4:20, forget it - I was put on hold till after 4:30 and by 4:35 I knew no one would dain to stay past 4:30 to answer my call. So if you're stranded somewhere and call OT for help about where a bus is or if a route has changed - forget it.
2. They don't seem to want riders. I called a year or more ago, several times and asked why they don't post bus schedules at the Oakville South Mall / Hopedale which is a bus hub, and at the Bronte GO Station bus area. NO POSTED BUS SCHEDULES! Either they aren't smart enough to think of it, or they just don't care!
3. The bus stops each show a bus stop # and the OT phone number. BUT THE NUMBER TO TEXT TO FIND OUT WHEN THE BUS IS COMING ISN'T POSTED ON THE BUS STOP!! WHAT A JOKE! The phone number that's posted is the useless office phone number (see #1) that stops picking up calls before 4:30 M-F, and will say they have no knowledge of where the buses are. The number to text to find out where the buses are is buried deep within the web page. Instead, they post a totally useless phone number on every bus stop in town. Again, they aren't that smart or they don't want people riding the bus!
4. If you text the system to find the next bus, you might not get an answer! I phoned today to ask why not, and they said it's because the bus is more than 30 minutes away. AND I WAS SUPPOSED TO KNOW THAT? After I texted them and waited...and waited...I didn't know if my phone network was not working, whether I had the wrong bus stop # (even though I was standing at the stop), or the system was down, or what the issue was, but they'll tell you if the bus is close - they just won't tell you it's far away. WHY THE HELL NOT? Because they don't want you to know where the bus is, apparently. WHO THINKS OF THIS OPTION OF NOT TELLING THE RIDERS? Even if they'd just said "more than 30 minutes away" that would at least be an answer.
4. At $3.75 per ride, this costs more than TTC. read more
