The train service is generally reliable, and the connection to local MiWay buses makes it convenient for getting around the city. The station is wheelchair accessible and has a ticket booth, seats, and basic amenities, and it's easy to navigate. Parking is available but fills up fast during rush hours. One of the nicest things about this station is its location--you can step outside and be just minutes from Port Credit's shops, restaurants, and lakeside parks.

A very interesting place that not many people know about…read more People are using this as a catch-all page to review the transit system as a whole, but I would like to talk about the head office that is located at 975 Central Parkway. This isn't a place I ever intended to visit, but I did so last week (as of this writing) to attend a transit infrastructure press conference. My experience with the staff was fantastic, as I was initially lost and unsure of where to go until someone (one of the lead supervisors, perhaps) was able to guide me to the parking site where the conference was taking place. I got to see a ground-floor on the operations that go on at the facility, as the staging area for the conference was held in what appeared to be a hybrid office/locker room, before we all moved into the main transit garage of the site, which houses dozens of vehicles and is ground zero for vehicle maintenance and repairs. The press conference itself was primarily intended to announce funding for MiWay, to the tune of nearly $400 million over the next decade. There are several sectors in the city where these funds would be best served, which is why I was glad to see the commitment being made. That dovetails into my views of the system as a whole. Some of the reviews on this page are laughable. I've had my share of bad experiences with MiWay over the last few years, but to say they're worse than TTC or the GO (where I've actually had to sit for nearly an hour as they worked to fix the train I was on due to a key part failing) is hilarious. Everyone has bad experiences - two weeks ago as of this writing, for instance, I had to wait more than an hour to leave a bus stop in Meadowvale (one of the aforementioned sectors in the city). The municipal government knows about the problems and frequency issues - on the frequently-traveled lines like the 19 or 1, it's fantastic and you can be back home in half an hour or less, but it is known that anything outside of that can be spotty, which is not a problem that's unique to MiWay. When 100+ kids are trying to cram onto a bus at Port Credit Secondary School, of course there are going to be delays. I'm not trying to be an apologist here, but some of the reviews blasting the system for things that are outside of their control and can't be solved without further funding are laughable. And within that context, Mississauga is a minnow in the ocean compared to T.O., which is getting at least $2 billion to develop additional LRT lines, subway upgrades and much more. Context is everything. I see the system having additional challenges, but MiWay has rarely steered me wrong and I've had plenty of positive experiences, and my recent journey to their head office only reinforced that perception.

Aside from the occasional jaywalker, it's hard to jaywalk Rathburn Road anyway since it's busy at almost all times. One complaint I do have is the size of the terminal. Even with the expansion a few years back it's still too small for the amount of bus traffic it gets. Some of the bays are shared amongst 4 or more routes, which gets quite messy during rush hour when buses are more frequent. Also, some of the busier routes are located too far away from the indoor waiting area, for example routes 110 and 502, which are located all the way on Rathburn Road itself. It gets quite chilly waiting over there in winter (or any cold day for that matter). Hopefully with the BRT coming into the terminal some changes can be done in terms of configurations.

The station helps add to the character of the immediate surrounding area of heritage of the unique (albeit small) city centre. It has GO train service, and recently they've added all-day, 2-way service on weekdays during business hours which is great. The GO bus terminal is right beside with several routes offered. The train station serves as a VIA rail station and you can get to places like Montreal from this station. Tip: Closer to the bus station is The Village Bake Shop, which is a great place to get coffee, baked goods and such. You'd need to set aside a few extra minutes to go on a run there if you were getting on the train however. One frustrating thing, and for all GO stations for that matter, are the ridiculously slow ticket machines. There's a stress that cannot be compared to anything else when you hear the train rolling in and the machine takes half a minute just to bring up 'Union' station on the search. Practically a couple minutes just to get your ticket.

I recommend using your Presto card instead of the ticket machines if you are able, because the machines are super clunky. That's everybody though, not just this station. There's lots of free surface parking if you need it, but Brampton transit has many buses that go to Brampton Bus Terminal/Brampton GO so you can ditch the car entirely if you want!
