I love Oakview. We've tried a few other places for boarding and Oakview is hands down my favorite. I will say, the Lake Zurich location isn't able to handle pitbull mixes, which is disappointing, but Wauconda welcomes my energetic girl with open arms. Every time I come to pick her up, the staff has been kind and tells me about interactions that they had with my dog during her stay. It really is the little things that make me feel like my dog is getting quality care while she's being boarded. The boarding area is always seemingly clean and the dogs never seem stressed out / barking constantly when I come inside for pick up/drop off - something that's a huge difference from other places. I have asked for nail trimmings, but they can be short staffed & honestly, it takes 2 to hold my dog down. (anxiety, am I right!). Instead of telling me they couldn't do it, they had be come back to calm her down. SUPER appreciated that. Overall nothing but great experiences here. read more

DO NOT BRING YOUR PETS HERE!!! They are unaccountable and irresponsible!!!! We brought Oliver, our 1.5 year old Chocolate Lab to doggie daycare to the Wauconda facility on Friday, August 26, 2022. Oliver is socialized and very well behaved. We picked him up from the office and nothing out of the ordinary was said to us. When we got home we noticed blood on our carpet & our furniture. We looked around trying to figure out what the heck it was and then realized it was Oliver that was bleeding! We noticed a hearty chunk of his ear missing! It was bleeding quite a bit. We were able to stop the bleeding after some time, but it was pretty dramatic. We immediately called the office and it was already closed. We called Saturday morning and was told a manager would call us back when she got in at 4pm that afternoon. She didn't call me back so I called at 5pm. They took another message & said the manager would call me. No one called me again. I called back Sunday morning and left a voicemail. No call back. I called again Monday and was told the owner Mike would get back to me. It is now Thursday & still no call back!! We are not panicky people. We love our dog. The fact that this business is not acting with urgency is so disappointing, and unacceptable. We know stuff happens at doggy day care, but honestly we don't understand how our dog can be missing a chunk of his ear, assumably , without anyone knowing ? Nobody caring? Even IF they didn't see it happen, (although we are sure he screamed).... They should be calling us back. It's Bad Business. We've been taking our dogs here for years and honestly, we love it. They are so flexible, adore animals, and the place is perfect for pets. They groom our dogs every time and they come home perfect. We have a senior dog and a younger Heeler so their needs are very different; but they are always bouncing up and down to get inside when they see where we are headed. As an animal owner of dozens of dogs in my lifetime, small, large, adopted, special-needs, etc - this is a great place to trust your furry friends sleepover. read more

This was a last minute trip that we had to make for a family funeral. The staff was very accommodating. Our Stormy who is 8 months old golden retriever/German Shepard hadn't been kenneled yet and they were willing to board and evaluate him for day care time at the time of his boarding. Usually day care evaluations are done prior to their drop off date. Stormy appeared to have thrived during his 4 day stay and I am definitely willing to boss him there again. read more

DO NOT BRING YOUR DOG HERE. We know two dogs who have gotten bitten due to fights breaking out, and they NEVER CALL THE OWNERS!!! They just let you pick up the dog as it is bleeding and has a wound. Would never bring my dog back here for daycare. Furthermore, we boarded our dog overnight for the weekend. I was told I could pick him up at 11am and we went there and no one was there. After pounding on the door, multiple phone calls, and waiting for 15 minutes, we left. They finally called me back at 3pm and said we could come get him. After my dog's weekend stay, he had conjunctivitis in both eyes and a red, blood-crusted inflamed ear. He was also sneezing. Took him to the vet and sure enough he had an ear infection. HORRIBLE! If you like your dogs do not trust their care to this place. There are layers of problems here which so far has resulted in over $800 of vet bills and counting for me (latest invoice pictured). To start, when I picked them up and brought them outside they immediately went to the bathroom like it had been days since they'd been able to go (you know that behavior out of your dog when you see it). So much so that one shat all over the other making a huge mess for them both. When I went inside to get some help with the situation all I was offered was "some paper towels." As I was driving away with two feces covered dogs I noticed a massive gouge in my younger dogs chest, instantly recognizing that it needed stitches. So drove straight to my vet where they drank water like they hadn't seen it in weeks (you know that behavior out of your dogs as well). The vet spent a couple of hours cleaning out the wound which was THREE INCHES DEEP and full of hair and other debris. Oakview did not inform me of this injury, which would have been very hard to miss. Now, as I write this, my dog with stitches in his chest is coughing up a storm and throwing up (three days after I picked him up) so we are going back to the vet (I'll update this review with the result of that as well). So to summarize: it seems my dogs did not get let out to go to the bathroom, did not get water, did not get fed (the vet indicated they both lost a material amount of weight), and one of them had a one inch wide, inch and half long, and THREE INCH DEEP impaling wound that either went unnoticed or they just decided not to tell me (see photo of vet's email). And the cough is still TBD, but it sure seems like something that will likely be linked back to this dog abusing / neglecting establishment. read more

I've seen the website online when I was searching for places to board my dog in the event that I needed to, but I never actually took my dog here until this past weekend. There was a bit of an emergency and my sister, who normally watches my dog, wasn't able to watch him. When I arrived I was greeted by the woman at the front desk and she was extremely helpful and very nice. The place was clean, the staff was friendly, and I was taken on a guided tour so that I would feel comfortable with my dog spending the night in a strange place. (The staff is the only reason I'm not giving this place one star.) The woman talked me into boarding my chihuahua in the "cottage" suites, which are $32 because she said smaller dogs had a tendency to escape from their bigger kennels. When I was ready to leave she asked if I wanted them to bathe my dog or add any extras and I asked if they could clip his nails, which is a service they provide. The very next day when I went to pick up my pooch, I am presented with a bill for $74. Yes, that's correct, $74 for a ONE night stay. I dropped him off at 11:30 on Saturday and picked him up right when they opened at 3pm on Sunday, and it cost me $74. Turns out Oakview charges you per calendar day, not night. So if you're looking to board your dog, expect to pay DOUBLE the rate advertised on their website. Needless to say, I was not happy about this. What type of dog boarding business charges by calendar day? EVERY other place I have boarded my dog charges by number of nights, and if you pick up your dog past a certain time the next day you get charged for another day. I'm definitely not boarding my dog overnight there ever again. I feel like I was ripped off. However, I am considering their day care service. But I'm a little leery, obviously, since their website says $17 a day, but who knows. It could be $17/lb for the dog and I'd end up with an $80 bill again. read more

I thought about taking my dog there as my mom lives in Lake Zurich. It's a good thing I didn't! My sister took her puppy there and they put him in with a German shepard. Guess what? The German shepard bit him. They only called my sister to say the dog had been bit. Poor guy need sutures on the inside and outside. They never called to check up on the dog or say, I'm sorry. I've only ever brought my dog here for grooming, so I can't comment on boarding or classes. The people are very friendly and seem sweet and gentle with my scared little pup. Their prices are very reasonable for my 42 pound mid-size dog. I usually have them give her a bath, Furminate her, cut her nails, clean her ears, and express her anal glands. This costs me about $27, which seems like a good value. My problems have more to do with the fact that the groomer is only there a limited number of days and times, so it is hard to "fit" my dog in. Also, they've done a pretty cruddy job on her nails the past few times, with sharp frayed edges, and I'm pretty sure one of the nails was bleeding and turned a little black. Other than that, and being kind of off the beaten path -- I'm generally satisfied. read more

A friend of mine picked up her dog from here to see a gaping wound on his back, he was lethargic, and unable to walk. She could not get any explanation from anyone at Oakview. The dog was taken straight to the ER where they found out he had a fever and his wound was infected. He died the next day...The family is struggling to get information about what had happened at Oakview with their only explanation being, "We don't know what happened." The family received no call about anything wrong happening, leaving them heartbroken and confused. Something is wrong within this place. DO NOT BRING YOUR PET HERE! read more

On my dogs 3rd visit for doggy day care he was injured. They called me and said that my dog slipped on the turf and was limping but it didn't seem that bad. When I picked him up he wouldn't even walk on that leg. His elbow looked like it was sticking out and they suggested I take him to my vet. This place use to be pretty good but we stopped going here. They want a dog thats there to be groomed to be dropped off by 10 AM and can only be picked up after 4 PM they say due to covid. The stupidity around this policy is so beyond rational that I quit going here. If you have a Labrador Retriever,make sure that you have you dog seen by your vet before going to Oakview! We took our yelow lab for a bath and grooming 3 weeks ago. The next day Beau (our beautiful dog) had a terrible odor,was lethargic,and not himself. The entire area under his neck was matted down and very irritated. We took him to our vet immediately,and our vet determined that Beau had a "hot spot" because he was not dried properly after his bath,and the groomer had brushed him too vigorously in that area. Beau had to be treated with antibiotics,pain medication,and powder to be applied twice daily for 3 weeks. Four weeks and $400 later,I called the owner. I emailed the vet bills to him with the hopes he would do the right thing i.e. reimburse me,or at least pay half! The response was that Beau came in with a "pre-existing condition"! That's impossible,because Beau had a full physical the day before the bath! In addition to not wanting to do the right thing (we are retired and $400 is alot of groceries!),I had to request that the $50 grooming charge be credited back to my debit card--Oakview never even offered that 4 weeks ago. We will never go back there again. But all dog owners beware,if you do bring your pet there,make sure they agree that there are no "pre-existing" conditions before your dog is groomed! read more

The resort our family's pet went to was his DEATH! A perfectly healthy house cat was left in Oakview's care. Oakview resort sent him to a veterinarian unable to stand. He died. Oakview left messages on our home phone (we were on vacation, thus the pet sitting service). Imagine our horror to find out he was gone upon returning from vacation!!! I started taking my dogs to Oakview September 2019 when I started a job that kept me out of the house for long hours. I loved the staff. My dogs loved going there. They knew how to push open all the doors to get in the back to play. It made me happy to see them so happy. Then COVID hit. Their staff went down, which I understand. While I no longer needed to take them there due to working from home, I continued to do so every other week to every three weeks to help them stay in business and for my dogs to get a change of pace. Recently they hired a new employee who was not every friendly. I do not know if she is not a morning person but drop offs were always meet with attitude. I also had to wait a solid 5 to 10 min before she graced the front desk at pickup times always followed with her dog. My assumption she would play with her dog and not do her responsibilities??? I get it. It is a great place to bring your pet but it is still a job. My dogs were safe and happy so it was what it was. The last time we went this employee took it upon them self to groom my dog. Never asking my permission and the really weird part is she video taped it on her personal phone. The tool she used is NOT approved for my type of dog and it needed up pulling out her hair and causing damage to her fur. I have a Husky and if their undercoats are damaged or pulled out before it is loose it damaged the follicules and their due takes years to fully grow back. Anyone who owns a Husky will tell you this. They need special attention to their coats. Now I am in a situation where my dog has matted down course hair and the color is different due to this. Her appearance was altered. When I spoke to the employee instead of me getting an apology or letting me teach her about Huskies she got defensive and told me I did not know what I was talking about and that all groomers use this type of brush (Ah... NO they do not!!!) Not on a Husky or the groomer should be taught proper techniques. So now I am upset, my dog's appearance is altered. I asked for the owner to call me. I got nothing. I left three messages and no call. I called the other facility to get a call and while the manager there was sympathetic and claimed she talked to the employee I still got no apology or call from the owner. How can I trust bring my dog to a place that while this did not harm my dogs it did alter her appearance and I got no appropriate response. What if it was something worse? I use to recommend this place. I know they have several new dogs due to my recommendations. I will no longer recommend them. I now need to find a new boarding place because it is obvious they really do not care for dogs. This was something "minor" that could have and should have been resolved quickly that has turned into hurt and pain and complete disregard for my feelings and what was done to my furry baby. It is sad too... I did not want to post negative comments such as this but I have no other option since nobody cares and maybe this will get the attention of the owner. I have been bringing two sets of 2 dogs to this facility for over 20 years. During that time I have spent well over $2,000 per year grooming and boarding them. So doing the math that comes to $40,000 over 20 years. Recently I brought one of my dogs in for boarding and grooming. My other dog was sick and had to stay at the vet. Both of my dogs are at the end of their life. They are 12 years old. I gave specific instructions that I wanted a terrier cut not a complete shave, like has happened in the past. My instructions also were that if you are going to shave him just do nothing and I will go elsewhere for grooming. My dogs are Airedale terriers. My instructions were totally ignored and my dog was completely shaved. The groomer that worked on him told me that his coat was matted. My dog's coat was long, but the day I dropped him off I specifically combed his hair to make sure it was not matted. I now have at least 3+ months to wait until my dog's hair grows out and he again looks like an Airedale. I'm not sure he will even live another 3 months. So my last memories of him could be him looking like a large RAT. I have had experience with this groomer in the past. She is a very lazy person. Shaving a dog is a lot easier than delivering an Airedale cut, so she has taken the easy way out and just completely shaved him, as she has done twice before. Bottom line the manager that runs the establishment is Margarita. She might love dogs but not humans. The owner is a guy named Mike Inman. My past dealings with him have been great, but he is now an absentee owner. My wife and I have left numerous messages for Mike only to have them returned by Margarita, who is less than professional in her dealings with us. She is a one person customer "chase away" department. Mike are you listening? You used to have a great business, but in the hands of Margarita that is not the case anymore. read more

Do Not Board your dogs at the Wauconda location!! Our 9 lb Maltese stayed there and when we picked her up they handed me the wrong dog! They tried to convince me the dog they gave me was mine until a worker from the back came out to the front and heard me arguing with the front desk telling her this is not my dog and she said "oh you are right that is not your dog let me go get yours!!!!!" I was freaked out! They came back with my dog and I have her in my arms and she is shaking like a leaf and I immediately noticed two huge bite marks that were large open wounds on each side of her body. No one initiated a conversation telling me what had happened! I completely freaked out and demanded answers. I asked for the manager who was no where to be found. Finally I was told she was bit by a large dog. I asked how is this possible? Why is my small dog interacting with large dogs? I was told they were separated. I asked did anyone even clean the wounds? They told me that they called the vet the night before when it happened and the vet was going to see her first thing in the morning which did not happen! We arrived to pick her up at 11 am (not knowing all this happened) and no vet had been there. I had asked why was I not called immediately when this happened and I got blank stares! We immediately rushed our Maltese to the animal hospital and she ended up spending the afternoon being cared for... and two visits after the hospital visit to make sure everything healed and to make she didn't get any type infections. The whole event was appalling... and we have yet to receive one follow up call from the place checking up on how she was doing and is today DO NOT take your dogs to this location!! read more

I have a rescue dog who is not a fan of other dogs, Oakview was very accommodating with his needs. I have never left him anywhere in the 6 years we've been together, so I was very hesitant. He showed 0 signs of stress after staying in a "cottage" for 9 hrs, and I could tell he enjoyed it by the way he ran right in the next 2 days. The employees are very nice and seem to enjoy the dogs. If I do need to leave him somewhere again, I will definitely go back. read more

I brought my dog here for daycare 1-2 times a week for a few weeks. I will not be bringing him back. There was an issue the first time visited to check out the facilities. At the end of the tour I stated that I was interested in bringing my dog in for day care and the girl working at the time said that was fine and to just drop him off whenever. That was it. No copies of vaccination records taken, no forms filled out or anything. I thought this was very strange. I called the Lake Zurich location to ask about this and Tim (the manager, i believe) was super helpful and really did a great job fixing the problem for me and is the reason I gave them a second chance (and the only reason I'm giving them 2 starts I stead of 1) Everything was going great until one day I picked my dog up from daycare and noticed he had a bite on his ear and that there was a small tear on the side of the ear as well. It wasnt a deep or a large bite mark so I chalked it up to an accident that had happened during some rough play. The next time I picked him up i found another bite on the same ear, and this one had gone through the ear and left a big bloody scab. I brought it up to the woman at the front desk (dont remember her name, she usually wears scrubs) and instead of assuring me that the dogs would be better watched to prevent this from happening again, all she did was make excuses, going so far as to tell me "well dogs play rough." To me, that was not an acceptable answer. I had to specifically ask her to make sure that the play did not get escalated to the point that my dog come home with bites from the other dogs and she acted like it was a big favor of me to ask. 100% will not be bringing my dog back to this establishment. read more

We rescued our doxie/chahuahua mix from Helping Paws. As his combined breed chemistry dictates, he is high energy, VERY vocal, and extremely aggressive towards everything. He's a 10-foot dog in an 8 inch body. After a year of killing 3 chipmunks, a fledgling bird, dragging a rabbit carcass across the yard at 6 in the morning, screeching and nipping at the kids at my daughter's school bus stop in the morning, climbing up my 5-year old grand nieces body to try to grab her nose, and random peeing indoors, I knew Sparky needed some professional attention. What capped the decision was my wonderful Mom telling me there was no way she was going to watch him over Spring Break. Nice rescue; but our extended family HATED him. I boarded him for Spring Break and in came Lisa Wagman! After one session of hands-on training with Lisa, Sparky came home less vocal and sat on command. Lisa has taught our family how bright this dog is and what it takes to keep him from being a terror. Via two sessions with Lisa and continued one-day a week classes with Lisa's instruction, Sparks has learned to sit, stay, come when called, and generally behave as the sweet natured dog he is. We walk every morning, and while he still keeps an eye out for chipmunks, when people pass, he no longer attempts to bite their heels or screech and bark. We continue to take part in the WONDERFUL training classes Lisa provides at Oakview. To see her work with Pit Bull mix rescue dogs as well as the average household dogs and puppies is enlightening. Our family is grateful for the expertise Lisa provides. As I said, I boarded our little Napoleon with Oakview. The staff, while young and tattooed, are warm, courteous, professional, and treat our dog very attentively. I do believe they over perfume the front office, but when they delivered Sparky to us on pickup, he reacted very positively to the staff. There seems to be a Yelp re: whether they actually do the extras like walking... I paid for daily walks and my neighbor told me she drove by and saw them walking Sparky. I appreciated the heads-up! Yes, they charge per DAY, not night. Yes, one blanket he came with did not make it home. He shredded it so they put him in a pet suite at no extra charge to relax his anxiety from being kept in the very much larger (and cheaper) kennel I chose for him. But his food, collars, harness, tags, and favorite stuffed bull toy were all neatly placed in his overnight bag with his name on it for pickup. No complaints except for the perfuming. Per day prices? Yes. He doesn't just sleep there, he gets daily attention and a visit from his favorite extra-trainer, Lisa. Lisa obviously knows what she's doing. To see other people who bring their dogs to Oakview and witness the behavior of their dogs is inspiring. We are working together to understand Sparky's chemistry. Agility is on the horizon. The training room is enormous and fully equipped. And the little stinker actually knows he's going to class and gets all excited to be there. Lisa has rescued Sparky as much as we did. She does great work and truly cares about what she does. Kudos for Oakview. Nice place. read more

It was horrible! I paid for personal care and "Nature Walks" each day. I contacted them the day before pickup and was told my dog was doing fine, eating well, everything good. I picked up my dog to find she had lost 10% of her total weight and was peeing red. No one noticed the weight loss. No one noticed the red pee or hunched back when peeing. I was told the facility would check into it and call me. No one called. DON'T GO HERE IF YOU CARE FOR YOU PET. read more

I will NEVER board my dogs here again. We picked up our little dog and at home noticed his harness had blood that someone tried to wipe off and when investigating further found torn skin and clumped up blood on our dog. No one told us about this and no one bothered to care for him but someone sure tried to clean the blood off his harness. To top EVERYTHING both our dogs came home with kennel cough despite having all current vaccinations. It's been so bad, they have trouble breathing and it's cost us $250 in vet bills. What does the kennel say...'no dogs are coughing here'! Our dogs were there for 5 days and no where else! Definitely think twice before using them. read more

This time when I went into pick up my two dogs, one of them had the side of her face all chewed up like she had been in a fight with another dog. When the girl was asked about it, she said she didn't know anything about it. Funny thing is, they were supposed to be giving her a bath every day. You can't tell me they didn't see her face when they bathed her (or did they charge for bathing and didn't bath her?). My other dog was so traumatized when he came out, I had to carry him into the car. When I got him home, I found out why! He could not walk on his back legs. When I took this dog to the vet the next day, the vet says the dog must have been laying on cement outside in the cold the whole time we were gone (10 days). He had lost a lot of weight too. I will never take another dog there and will tell everyone I know about the treatment my dogs received. I was promised by the staff that I would be called, they have not called me. read more

My two dogs LOVE coming here! As soon as we turn onto Route 22, they get so excited in the car! We pull into the parking lot, and they go crazy with joy! I love the girls that work the front (Alison, Tanya and Diana are their names, I think...). They are always pleasant and happy to see us coming! We love that Oakview posts pictures of the dogs in daycare on their facebook page! I can't wait until my lunch break every day to see who's there and what my girls are up to. This is a review for the wauconda location as this is the only one I toured, but since they are owned by the same owner I can't imagine it is much different. We made a reservation for our dog based on the description of the boarding options on their website. After discussing our concerns about our dog, they recommended the cottages, which sounded very nice on the website. We then showed up for a tour and when entering, the place smelled awful and in general looked dirty. The woman at the front desk appeared unprofessional and took us in the back for a "tour". She took us in the back to the cottages and I was shocked to see small wooden boxes that the dogs were in. They were stacked on top of each other, and looked absolutely disgusting. It looked like what you would see in a puppy mill. I was completely shocked at the false advertising, and generally heartbroken that anyone would send their precious dog or cat to this place. The dogs didn't have beds and were just barking and seemed extremely stressed. If you love your dog or cat please do not leave them at this awful place. read more

We boarded our dog there for 6 days. We also have had her there a few times at the day care for socialization. We will NOT be returning her there. Now I have my doubts about the facility staff. The facility is clean. We were greeted nicely and gave the woman at the desk all our information. 6 days was about $240. We also had her washed and nails trimmed. When we got home, we noticed the tags were missing..an AKC tag with an ID number, her rabies tag, and name tag with our phone number. They are on a very rigid, tight ring attached to her collar. When she was washed, I am sure they took the collar off but WHY THE TAGS? My wife called in the morning and was told rather nonchalant that they would look around and get back to us. I didn't hear back and called in the afternoon. Supposedly, I got a new girl at the desk...who said she didn't know anything about it and would look around and if she found it, get back to us. Neither called us back. Yesterday, at 9am, I spoke with the office manager who said she would look and PROMISED to call us back before the end of the day. She apologized for the two girls the day before. At 4:45pm, I was told she had gone home. Again, no call back. I had the number of a woman who, on her website, says she owns the kennel. She had given me her cell number regarding training our dog. I called her and she was very hostile and said she had NOTHING to do with the kennel. I called another cell phone with a woman we had trained with there and asked who owned the kennel. I told her the scenario. She said she would look into it. This morning, at 5am, a phone message came in from the man who says HE OWNS IT. A message was left that he understood I was harrassing people. He seriously questioned whether the dog had tags when it came in. HIS PEOPLE would NEVER remove dog tags. If I want to call anyone, I can call HIM!!! The funny thing about all this is, I called initially and was stonewalled when I asked who owned the kennel. He was cynical and condescending. Not at all apologetic. Unlike Laura, when I asked for a tour, I was told they don't do that. Now, I question exactly what they did with the dog. I can't trust them. They act one way when admitting the dog but now, I wonder, what happened? How do I know they exercised the dog? How do I know she got all the extra services we paid for? When the rotten apple is at the top of the basket, it rots the fruit beneath it. I will never go back to Oak View. My dog deserves much better than this. I was surely shocked at the lack of customer service and the 'cover up' on such a small issue. We have gone and procured replacement tags but it took time to get the rabies replacement tag, time to drive to get a new name tag, and we have to wait for AKC to replace her missing ID number. It is all on us! NOT OAKVIEW! Lastly, IF you are foolish enough to board there, take pictures of the dog when it is admitted so you have proof of the shape the dog is in, that the tags are on the dog, etc. and good luck! read more

We brought our dogs here for a number of years and after last week, we won't be returning. I brought my two dogs there in blizzard conditions to drop them off for a long weekend. I was six minutes late due to road conditions/conference call that ran a little long, and they refused to let me in. I was told to return in one hour--they were eating lunch and letting other dogs outside. The woman who greeted me was incredibly rude--as she stood with another woman behind the desk hanging out (not taking care of other dogs). Snow was literally pelting me in the face as I stood there in shock. I informed her that I would make other arrangements. Thousands of dollars have been spent boarding our dogs there over the years. Life happens and occasionally we need decent people to help us out and do the right thing...open the door and take less than 10 minutes to check us in. The staff I encountered that day were far from flexible, kind, or courteous. Not qualities I look for in people caring for our dogs. Would not recommend this place now to anyone--there are better places in the area to take your pets. read more

STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE This place is very overpriced. I called and made reservations for my dog. I asked for price for the stay and the girl told me the total for the days my dog was gonna stay there. I dropped my dog off for 4 days, gave them a full bag of food. When I picked him up, the price per day was more, I got no food bag(they said he ate everything-I know he didn't because he doesn't eat that much), and was billed for extra charges. I asked for a manager and the girl told me that she will have to call me back in few days because shes not here right now. Three days later I finally received a call and the manager told me that they bill you for calendar days and not the actual time the dog stay there, extra charges were charged because its a holiday season, and dog food was all eaten. Nowhere on their website nor when I called or dropped my dog off, was I informed that there are extra charges for stay during holiday season. Don't leave your pet there. They will rip you off. There are different better boarding location than this one. read more

We boarded our beloved family pet with Oakview Pet Resort for a week in June 2018. Our 7-year-old Sphinx cat, Harry, died in their care. It was Harry's third stay at Oakview. The lack of professionalism and compassion by Oakview was unconscionable. When we arrived to pick Harry up we were informed by a staff member that he became ill and needed to be taken to the animal hospital. She said someone left us a voicemail (we later discovered that it was on our home phone; we didn't notice it since we were on vacation... it was one message that said he was taken to animal hospital but provided no details). She said she "didn't know for sure what happened or where Harry was exactly". She "thought she heard" he was taken to Fox Lake Animal hospital but couldn't "say for sure". We were given a cockamamie story about his liver failing. After this very unprofessional discussion we went in search of Harry since the place we boarded him was clueless. Turns out he ended up at a vet in Buffalo Grove. The vet informed us that he had died and was in "rough shape" (full cardiac arrest) when someone from Oakview just dumped him off on deaths door. Vet said the individual from Oakview provide no information about what happened, saying "he wasn't the one responsible for his care, and couldn't provide information" that may or may not have been helpful in treating Harry. We spoke to the same Oakview staff member a couple more times on the phone after speaking with vet. She couldn't answer questions accurately so we said we needed to speak with owner or someone that can speak on official behalf of the business immediately. At this point, due to Oakview's behavior, we began to suspect possible negligence. She said she was going to give message to owner that I wanted call back ASAP. After receiving no call, we went to Oakview in person. I said I wasn't going to leave until the owner spoke with us. We wanted to know the real facts of the events leading to Harry's untimely demise in their care. Naturally, at this point, we were very, very upset. We engaged in a heated argument with the Oakview staff member over her seeming insistence that we were owed no explanation. The Oakview staff member became belligerent and threated to call police if we didn't leave! We informed her of our continued insistence that we speak with someone that can explain what happened. The police arrived and seemed surprised that Oakview would call on a customer that boarded an animal with them that died in their care. The police were very professional and compassionate. Police took statements and assured me the report would be forwarded to Lake County Animal Control and Care. We still don't know what happened to our Cat exactly or if negligent care was the result. What I can say with certainty is that we were treated very cruelly by Oakview. As any pet owner can attest to, losing a pet without warning is a traumatic experience. I read some other reviews on this kennel and felt that I had to speak up. I have been taking my dogs to oakview for over 15 years. That's right, 15 years. I have had min pins and now have a couple of larger dogs as well. They LOVE going there. When they realize that we are headed to doggy daycare, they get so excited! They are usually exhausted when they come home and clearly had a great time. I have taken them to both the Wauconda and Lake Zürich sites for doggy daycare. We have boarded our dogs at Wauconda many times over the past 15 years and also have used their grooming services for 15 years. There have been a few times when I wasn't thrilled with the job done on the nails, but I spoke up and since then I have not seen any problems. Generally I am very happy with the grooming job! One of my current dogs is a shi Tzu -- and they always do a great job with the grooming. They have been very accommodating when we have had special needs while boarding and the staff has been consistently great. We had one experience where one of the dogs' collars was missing, but they found it and we picked it up a few days later. The facility is clean and my dogs obviously love going there. read more
