My experience with this law firm was short, yet stressful. I'm a young girl with debt that I so desperately want to get out of. I found OakTree and decided to take the leap and book a consultation. I ended up getting connected with Gus Gomez whom I met with in person. I was told I'd be qualified and to start the filing process I had to pay a certain amount of money up front. I ended up paying the full amount for Chapter 7 bankruptcy ($1,923) to get the process started as quickly as possible. After that, I proceeded to submit my tax returns, bank statements, and pay stubs prior to booking my "1-Hour Intake" (that only lasted 20 minutes by the way) where Gus just ends up telling me that I'm no longer qualified for Chapter 7. He told me my only options were to wait 2-3 years to file Chapter 7, try for Chapter 13 and dish out another $2,000, or back out of the bankruptcy all together. I took a day to think about it, then reached out to Gus to let him know I wanted to back out (he told me if I backed out, I would be refunded my money) because they didn't get far into the process. Never heard from him again. Ignored my calls, texts, and emails. Had my boyfriend call him as a "potential client" and Gus answered his call. This a-hole was completely dodging me. Over a week later I finally ended up getting an email from Ed Pitts agreeing to issue me a partial refund of only $1,423, charging me $500 for a phone call that was performed by a Bankruptcy Department Manager (Gus), not even an attorney. Said his services are considered "administrative duties" and that $500 is their fee for those duties. They failed to be transparent about this "fee" in my consultation and contract. I will be seeking resolution through the State Bar's Mandatory Fee Arbitration Program and filing a State Bar complaint regarding the handling of my case and the supervision of non-attorney staff. Do not recommend this place, this was not a pleasant experience would give 0 stars if Yelp allowed it. read more

Mark sounded promising from the start. He was very knowledgeable about a lot of things. The bummer was, when we started enrolling with our case, we were assigned a bunch of other people, believe it or not, this is one case where you hire yourself a lawyer/paralegal, and that person sides on the other side. I don't care my fault or his fault; if I hired you, be honest from the get-go. This was a pathetic case landed in the WRONG hands. read more

Everything early on in the process is good. Communication, responses however as you move forward through your whole process with the firm their communication will stop and eventually cease. The lawyers will hardly respond and the paralegal will maybe get back to you - it's a problem. You will likely have questions as you go through your legal process as we did, while it's a normal thing for them you're concerned, nervous and have questions and they don't really care or have the time to help you. However mostly everything was handled online with a few items not being handled correctly or at least give you answers you need in a timely manner. Average service, if they would've simply been better at communication they'd easily get a 4/5 star rating but I can't quite recommend them unless you're ok with being ghosts for days and weeks on end when you need answers. read more

And in the end they even keep the entire settlement amount and the client never sees a single dollar of their settlement. First I was sent to Mark who transferred the case to Sabrina. Dispite my informing her my son would be in surgery I could not speak to her the next giving her 24 hours notice she called and texted demanding documents. She rude insensitive about the situation. Then it was passed on to Gus who is okay however, when court date came a attorney Brandon no I never spoke told them about a lemon law case that was still not open. It was just letter being sent to the dealer their was no case and Brandon misspoke so the Judge demanded a letter. When the new court case arrived I was told I need to be present then the judge I did not need to be present and Brandon was there again. Now I have another court hearing in September. There is a lot of miscommunication and far too many people handled my case unprofessional. I filed before a case for bankruptcy on my own without issue. This year I tried using attorney do not seem to know anything about legal processes. They will blame you and say you said this or that which never occurred. I was going to refer my brother to them but after how they handled my case no way!!! I do not even own a house just a lemon car and they couldn't handle this simple case. I was very forthcoming with the information I provided about my situation. I spoke to Mark several times to do my due diligence in making sure this was a right step for me. He reassured me multiple times that I was able to file for bankruptcy and there wouldn't be an issue. After having only 1 meeting that was 1 1/2 hours long with Ramona and giving them all the information that I gave from the beginning, I decided to pay the $1500.00 retainer fee. Everything seemed fine during the intake all the information was the same from my initial screening from this law firm. Well, after they were able to coerce me into signing and paying the $1500.00 retainer fee the information I provided all of the sudden was an issue and they told me they couldn't file for 4 more months. So, I had to decide if I wanted to have collection agencies torment me for 4 months or cancel. From talking to Mark, in the beginning before signing, I asked if I decide not to go through with it am I able to be refunded. He said yes, depending on how much work was done. In my mind, all I did was a 1 1/2 hour session and should get some money refunded. That was not the case. I messaged Mark in regards to wanting a refund and he forwarded me to Ed in the billing department and Ed explained I will not be getting a refund since the amount of work was actually $2000 even though my case was abruptly put on hold for 4 months. It's no wonder attorneys have the stereotypes of being liars, now I know why. I was told one thing and the opposite happened once they received their money. It's very unfortunate, sad and dishonest. Most people going into bankruptcy probably don't have $1500 to throw away. If I would have known the very very little time I spent with them would cost me $1500, I wouldn't have tried with them. They advertise how great they are but when I called about a case they showed no interest.

The rating that I have for this Oak Tree law firm is not on the grid; it is a big fat ZERO. Larry Fieselman is the lead deceptor of this company. I spoke with him regarding adding my children to the title of my properties and he assured me that it could be done. He requested the information and it was sent to him. There was nothing to look up because it was sent to him. I received a call from another lawyer Hoffman, who I knew nothing about, because Larry did not inform me about him. I attempted to reach out to Larry to find out about Hoffman and could not reach him. I asked Hoffman is the process doable and he said yes. Once the retainer agreement was signed, I received a call from Larry who was in dodging about what I needed. I told him Hoffman already answered. He said tell me because I am the one in charge. Once I told him that's when he informed me that I needed a will. Da! Well, during my consultation why wasn't that question asked? He waited until the retainer agreement was signed to tell me he could not do what I wanted. He also did not say there was a consultation fee. What was done was a mere consultation. He then said, " I will deduct my fees for the work done." What work? There was nothing done. All the information was handed to him. I was charged $550.52 for Larry, Hoffman and a Julie Volobus. THIEVES and DECEPTORS!!!!! To take advantage of the public is more than a dispute in fees it is a CRIME that has been committed. Lawyers must maintain the highest standards of fairness towards a client and the legal profession also has a duty to promote access to justice. All my paperwork was filed correctly and on time. Oaktree did all the follow-up. They were they and on time for every court appearance. I forgot to list some of my creditors and they were able to add them. I needed to do a modification and Oaktree filed the correction. I had a creditor that tried to file a claim that was out of the statute of limitations and Oaktree fixed it. Oaktree told us to be proactive and keep in contact with our bank so we did. Oaktree law tells us we need to bk to keep our house so we did. Oaktree law did not finish paper work for bk because they forgot to file something. Found this out January 2014. We filed bk in August of 2013. Oaktree law wasn't as proactive with us like they have been with all these other reviews. Marissa started off nice but at the end of it all didn't care about us at all. We lost our home but because we found a new attorney we were able to get it back. I think everyone who they helped this year had it easy since the laws had change. When you see a company that has so many 5 star reviews you tend to think they do a great job with Reputation Management. Everyone can't give a 5 star glowing review and have it be true. I am giving my 5 star review to Mark Hoffman because he answers the phone, answers his emails and spent 3 hours with us yesterday getting us from A to Z on a real estate issue we are working on. He took my super skeptical wife and made her a believer that he could help us out and did not promise the moon, but said he would do the best he could do. He gave us action steps and a plan is in place that we feel good about. The office is nondescript and low key. No big fancy lobby with a Starbucks. Don't let that scare you away. What we did get is a very fair price and a plan detailing costs all along the way. We received excellent advice for a very fair set price. We did not get a retainer with a blank check attached and for that we say good job Oak Tree Law. We heard about them on KFI and we did the research. Real Estate Law is their bread and butter and they are very good at it. I hope to be able to update this review along the way or I will give you more info as we go along. Right now, (meeting one) we have hired them and we are super impressed and feel very confident they will be able to handle our matters well with the expertise and knowledge they posses. I've known the folks who run this law firm for almost 3 years now. I really like them because they have an incredible heart for the people who are facing foreclosure and Bankruptcy. Knowing that there are many questionable loan mod companies still in business today I would highly recommend you do your research before you choose just any company. I had legal assistance with settling our 2nd prior to meeting the attorneys at Oaktree Law. Had I known them then I could have saved myself about $7300...at least. First because the inital Law company I hired went under before getting our account settled so I lost 5k there. Then, the second Law firm I hired was a bit more expensive. Fortunately that firm did help us... just for more $ than what Oak Tree would have charged. Had I known OakTree Law then I could have got the 2nd settled for a whole lot less money out of pocket. In my experience I have seen Oak Tree Law stand head and shoulders above many other companies.
