A week before we arrived, I called to let them know that we were bringing a 10lb chihuahua mix. The girl on the phone went over the pet policy, which was pretty standard and understandable. About three days before we were supposed to arrive, my boyfriend wanted us to get there a day early so I called Pope's Landing to see if we could get the cabin a day earlier than planned. The girl told me that they were booked and completely busy, etc. No big deal since I knew it was relatively last minute so I wasn't expecting a "yes". We arrived on Saturday afternoon. The place was pretty empty. I saw one couple walking their dog and a family fishing nearby. I asked the woman behind the counter if they had been busy and she said no. Kind of odd since I got the exact opposite information two days before, so this kind of rubbed me the wrong way. Whatever, no big deal. The woman helped me with finding a restaurant for dinner and the nearest grocery store to pick up some snacks and I was able to rent a boat slip for $10 a night. The cabins look exactly like the pictures. This is a good thing, in my opinion. You get what you see. The floors and sheets were clean, I'm pretty low maintenance so it doesn't take much to please me. The cabin had a full kitchen: microwave, oven, fridge, a grill and fire pit out front, and even dishes and silverware if you're planning on cooking. The WiFi was a little spotty, but the woman at the front desk warned me about that, so at least I got a warning? Besides, we spent most of the weekend boating and fishing. The cabin had Dish/Satellite TV. The TV channels in white were the ones that worked/have access to. I was told that housekeeping would come in the next day to replace our sheets, but they didn't come in until late afternoon. My dog liked the lake and I had to give her a bath. I used a towel to get the dirt off the dog. Housekeeping assumed the dirty towel was because my dog had an accident. I told them that I had to clean the dog. They charged me $250 for the cleaning fee. I'd think that the housekeeping wouldn't know the difference between dog accidents because of the smell of dog waste, but I'm sure they'll believe the opinion of their cleaning crew over my truth. I'd probably lodge here again, if we were to visit Lake Fork again, but mostly because there aren't that many options for lodging. As nice as the place was, I kind of expected more. I guess I wished I had a more pleasant or more welcoming experience..?

Wife and I stopped in (as we have never been here before and they had Line Dance lessons from 6-9. Service was good and a great view of the lake. Food was bar food and good for around here. Line dancing was a bit of a let down as they didn't have a great sound system. But, lots of people showed up and made it fun. All in all, the restaurant is young and they are experiencing some growing pains. Broken tea maker and got a an appetizer wrong...but they made it right. Had pepperoni pizza and Philly Cheesesteak...but forgot to take pictures. We will come again and grow with them!

FLACCID AL'S BAREFOOT BAY…read more JUST THE DETAILS -Our lawnmower stored at Barefoot bay was taken and used by the new marina owners. They claim that our contact and payment info was never transferred from the old owners and it was abandoned property to seize because of that. -Trying to get things sorted out we had unpleasant interactions and intimidation tactics used against us and potentially witnessed some child labor violations. -Payed them the past due balance. The returned mower had approximately $500 worth of vandalism damage done to it. They eventually paid for the repair which seems to be an admittance of guilt. They have not admitted or apologized for any of the damages or unethical use. THE FULL EXPERIENCE Upon returning spring of this year (2025) we were met with all new signage and a fresh wood facade inside and out. New cameras everywhere, an updated bar and dance hall. It was impressive at first glance. Sadly the facelift that had been preformed was nothing better than lipstick on a pig. Under the shimmering red gloss this place is still just swine wallowing in its own filth. On our first visit this year to pick up our mower, a drowsy looking man that appeared to have gum disease approached us. He told us he was wondering who the trailer belonged to. We explained that we were the owners of the equipment. He stated that our automatic payment we had previously set up would need to be updated. When we returned 3 weeks later we found an empty trailer, our mower was missing. Someone had to cut our lock and cable off. We went inside and asked for a manger only to be greeted by a child behind the counter. I asked for a manger and she went to go find them. A middle aged man with a large cold sore approach me and asked what I needed. I was sharply dismissed and directed to a lady in a side office. She started filling out a theft report when a young lady with an upper lip piercing came in and asked what happened. She asked if it was a red mower and then said she would be right back. While I waited for her to return the little girl behind the counter was processing transactions at the register unsupervised. Selling snack, drinks, and even cigarettes at one point. When the woman with the lip piercing returned the girl asked her if it was legal for her to sell cigarettes. She was told no, but not to worry about it. I was eventually handed their land line phone and talked with their new property manager Jessica. While on the phone the cold sore man returned and demanded I take that call elsewhere. He insisted that was a business line and I needed to take the elsewhere. After I told him I was on the business line with the business (the property manager) he stood there staring at me and eventually walked off. A week later when we picked up the lawn mower it was back on the trailer. That's where their fulfillment ended. The control handles were bent so badly the enamel paint was chipped off and the lawnmower was not controllable. The key cylinder had been destroyed, the throttle control was bent, one of the transmission releases was bent, and a chunk of the handle foam was torn off. They vandalized the lawnmower extensively before returning it. Eventually the property manager reimbursed us for the vandalism caused on her team's watch. That seems to be the only ethical part of this entire exchange. What seems to be the most concerning for the future of the marina is the complete lack of ethics within the staff, and potential of willingly violating child labor laws, a minor working the register alone selling age restricted items. The behavior by the cold sore man, a supposed manager trying to pressure and intimidate us, damaging property that they were paid to store and keep secure. "Big Al's" has fallen flat. This place needs to seriously consider replacing the local management. From what I have seen and personally experienced recently at Barefoot bay, it is my opinion that people lacking so much integrity and intelligence operating a business are untrainable and just need to be replaced.

This is a unique experience because you meet the most amazing women and the sense of community was much needed.

We also got to meet Teresa at our retreat as well - she is the owner of the location. This is the perfect yoga/ relaxation retreat if you want to get away and recharge. There are multiple workshops and yoga classes and they also have a fun art and craft activities as well. It's a great place to meet other women, create friendships and bond in nature. It is located away from the city and is surrounded by trees. It is a very relaxing location. Shout out to Dana who gave the most amazing massage ever! Also a huge shout out to Angel as well who is the retreat chef. The food here was so tasty and fresh! I get food anxiety because I am vegetarian and I hate going places where I don't have anything to eat. This place has plenty of options for vegetarians and others with different dietary needs. My friend and I had so much fun here, I am so glad she found it and we were able to go together! I do wish they had some sort of charging station at the retreat as it would have been so helpful since the nearest one is about 30 miles away. The cozy house was very clean and well furnished for comfort and all our "at home" needs. We met Jackson, one of the owners, at the cottage, who was absolutely "Texas friendly" and immediately attended to Susan's request for more coffee. He even delivered a tray of delicious snacks personally to our door. Jackson mentioned there were guests arriving at the other cottages later, and a party of cheerleaders had reserved The Lounge for that evening. The Lounge was approximately 15-20 feet from our quarters. Amazingly, we never heard or saw any one else in that quiet complex. Only birds during the day and tree frogs at night. The golf cart we rented, "Shorty", took us quickly to and from the Los Pinos Ranch restaurant and winery through the vineyard rows and fields. We also drove the golf cart far enough away from the building lights to gaze at the numerous bright stars at night. One of the "Pro's" to Relax and Wine Down is its location - out in the middle of nowhere, many miles away from the noise and chaos.
