The hosts could not have been more accommodating to us. Sondra always responded to late night texts and calls with kindness and professionalism ~ but most of all with willingness to get our guests reservations taken care of. Our guests raved about the rooms, the delicious breakfast and the serenity surrounding the residence. Poke around at the photos and you will see why you should stay here. My only problem was that I was here is Los Angeles taking care of the reservations and not snuggled in one of the gorgeous rooms.

Five stars for everything including perfect, honest descriptions on the website. Helped me find exactly what I was looking for. Full kitchen and nice A/C. Updated bathroom with nice shower. There is a TV with digital broadcast and a dvd player. New where it needs to be and antique where it should be. Our stay was serene amongst old farm buildings, a creek, small ponds and lots of wildlife. Nearest neighbors are acres away including a local cop (we heard) and a couple of farmers. Mineola is about 10 minutes away and filled our weekend with restaurants and small town shopping. We also hit Winnsboro, TX about 30 minutes away to view some of our old family's residences from back in the day. Being in the event business, I could appreciate how the proprietor took one of the large barns and turned it into an open air special event facility with lighting, small stage, bar, picnic area and a clean smooth new floor for catering, weddings, concerts and reunions. If I lived in that area, I would use the heck out of it. The coordinator or the guest of honor and family could stay on site in the cottage while the rest of the party could stay in town at the ever expanding group of hotels. I think it would be cool to tent camp with some other couples out here with the cottage as home base. (haven't asked the owner yet.)

Mt Vernon's downtown is becoming a bit of a mecca for fine arts, events and civic celebrations…read more It's only fitting that the Holbrook Bed and Breakfast be just a short jaunt away from the plaza. On arrival, the wide sweeping porch and drive through seem to welcome you in with an well placed brick walkway. The stark white paint, appointed planters and landscaping remind you to come back to that porch after checking in to take it all in. Paul and his staff, are on site to welcome you and show you to your room. I found my sty to be in the "Don Meredith" suite. It was Dandy indeed! King sized "poster bed" with a decor that takes you back 100 years, yet the modern amenities most homes don't enjoy now days. The large private walk in shower is a surprise of a modern comfort that you wouldn't expect after opening 200 year old imported barn doors from France. I found the night cap of wine and treats were a nice touch to brag of the days activity with other guests, or grab a few treats and a glass of wine and retreat to your room for privacy. Breakfast by Paul and Buzz proved to be a great way to start the day. Paul seems to know when to be present enough to be part of the conversation and fun, yet gone when you seek a more private time. Truly professional. My work revolves around travel and often find bed and breakfasts to sometimes not be very comfortable, and I can't say that about the Holbrook. Can't wait to return.
