I am a student at Knox, and my experience here could be a lot better. The moment I step into this…read morebuilding, I feel quite disorganized and nervous about the seven hours of hell I'll have to endure. As a student, my goals in school are to learn, get good grades, make friends...all that good stuff. Although the coordination in this school is very little, making it difficult to achieve these standard goals. First, I feel that there is a large sense of favoritism, especially among the administrative staff. Students who play sports get treated a lot better compared to other students who don't. Administration is normally more friendly and helpful around these students. Second, my feelings about the administrative staff are very mixed. There are caring, kind counselors such as Mrs. Hollis, but many other staff are very rude, and uneasing to talk to. One of the assistant principals, Bobby McClain, is quite short-tempered and stern. There are multiple rumors around him that make me feel very nervous when talking to him. These rumors are about serious topics, making other students nervous and uneasy. It's most of the reason why I made a brand new account to hide my name, just in case the administration sees this review. Students seem to have a collective negative opinion of this specific person, which is something that isn't being dealt with. Although, the teachers I currently have are able to teach their class with no issue relating to behavior or teaching style. Some of them are actually very kind and forgiving. Overall, I'm actually excited to go to highschool next year JUST to leave Knox behind.

From the moment you walk in, the environment feels uncomfortable and poorly managed. Students often feel unsupported, and many issues that should be addressed by staff are ignored. Teachers rarely step in when problems happen, which creates a stressful atmosphere where students do not feel safe or heard. There are also constant rumors about serious incidents that have happened at the school. Whether true or not, these stories spread quickly and make students uneasy. The overall feeling of the school is unsettling, especially in areas like the bathrooms. Many students hear strange noises in the bathrooms, which adds to the uncomfortable and eerie environment and makes students want to avoid them altogether. Another issue is the administration. The assistant principal, Bobby McClain, comes across as very strange and unapproachable, which does not help students feel comfortable going to him for help or guidance. Leadership plays a big role in how safe and supported students feel, and unfortunately, that support seems lacking here. Overall, Knox Junior High feels like a place where student concerns are not taken seriously. Between the lack of action from teachers, the uncomfortable atmosphere, and poor administration, this school fails to provide a positive or supportive learning environment. Because of these reasons, I would give Knox Junior High a one-star rating.

Admittedly, we do like that it is small but we know we can't have the secret to ourselves forever. I was naive and felt like I had to make sure you weren't upset with us when I voiced a concern. I felt like I constantly had to reassure you that we appreciate your school because you would write back lengthy emotional emails when we would simply ask about something our child said happened. My husband even called a meeting with you to address this with you last year, and ask you to stop threatening us to leave each time we asked about a concern. Yes we were very happy with the Grove and Ms Claudia and Ms Eddy, until the pattern of failure to address the misbehavior became undeniable and my child was choked in Ms Marisol's class and left with a bruise and scratches. The more that happened and wasn't addressed, the more displeased we became. The first year at the grove was amazing, and MsEddy and Ms Claudia treated our first son with respect and guidance and he loved it. He loved it until the school continued to fail to address this other child containing to hurt and threaten my child's safety. ALL of which were acknowledged by you (once I asked what happened) and then minimized. Maybe your teachers need more support and staff to help supervise the classrooms, which have different spaces and are not open concept. The students cannot all be supervised by 1 teacher while the other one is preparing snack or changing diapers. What I asked of the school before you terminated us, was to evaluate this other child's disruption to the classroom. Our request was to know what actions happen when a child continues to cause bodily harm to another. Your response was that these are norm behaviors of children, which I disagree with completely. It is not normal for the same Child over the course of 1.5 years to touch my child's penis, bite him, push and pull him, grab toys from him daily, and eventually choke him and leave scratches. The word expulsion never came out in any of my emails with the school so before you call my facts libelous, please check yours. Your handbook that states an "open door policy" is not honored by you. In an email in January 2021 after we asked to do a visit to meet Ms Nayely since she was new you stated "Unfortunately, we do not plan to have parent classroom observations. They disrupt the routine and send the message that there is a lack of trust between home and school. Having been here since last year, I assume you are very comfortable with Ms. Eddy's leadership in the Toddler classroom and have full faith in her ability to guide her students and mentor her new assistant. I welcome and appreciate parent feedback, but I feel it is my responsibility to observe the classrooms and make necessary changes based on the information provided." Clearly you don't observe well enough if you cannot take actions to ensure proper supervision of the younger classrooms.

I am also a dance teacher at a local school and have a degree in dance from UT Austin. All of this being said, I can't say enough good things about TADA!!! Our experience has been beyond my expectations. My daughter is an excellent dancer, but in the past, she has never been given the opportunity to grow. She had to push HERSELF. She had to join Summer Ballet Intensives for WEEKS at a time. She had to take PRIVATE lessons from choreographers who would stretch her limits. At TADA, my daughter has improved her dance ability 3 fold... and we have only been at this studio for 7 months. She also takes fewer classes a week at TADA than she has taken in the past 4 years and she comes out of class with sweat, knowledge and a smile, wanting me to let her take more classes! With a primary degree in ballet, I know they are teaching everything correctly and safely. Windows are always open and I can watch the corrections and interactions with teachers. I have high expectations of professional dance teachers and can prove by watching that I am getting exactly what I want to pay for. Elise is the ballet director and being from Houston Ballet, she knows exactly what she's doing. Let's be honest, if your daughter is in dance, especially on a team, it is not cheap. However, it is much cheaper here than what I have paid in the past at the old studio. I don't feel like anyone is gouging prices. Everything is upfront and honest. They even let my daughter put snack food on her bill that I can pay at the end of the month (when I forget to send her with a snack or a drink, LOL!). I have never experienced such a positive atmosphere in the dance world as I do when I am at TADA. The dance world is full of negative competition and jealous girls that will push others out of the way to be in front. I have experienced this as a dancer, as a teacher, and from the other studio. I have NEVER felt that at TADA and neither has my daughter. We are going into our third competition of the season and the dancers and teachers all support each other and cheer each other on. The girls are genuinely excited for each other. They watch each other dance. They lift each other up. There is no jealousy because they know it is a team effort. I truely believe that attitude can only come from the top... Kristan and Tessie are amazing at getting the girls excited as a team. They are honest, loving and REAL!!!! I can tell they care about my daughter and every other dancer from their heart. If your looking for a dance studio, TADA is the best in the area. We love dance at TADA!!

One cool thing about the school is that there's only 1 class per age group, I like how close knit that makes the school....but also keep in mind classes fill up quickly.
