I honestly can't say enough good things about this medical practice. I saw Dr Holmbeck this summer…read more(June 2016) after having pain in my heel while running. A quick check of symptoms on the internet and I suspected plantar fasciitis. I tried some at home remedies for a few weeks and had no improvement, in fact it got worse. My job as a nanny also has me on my feet most of the day. I had insurance but was on an HMO and the network I was in couldn't get me into a specialist for almost 3 months. I was in too much pain to wait that long. In 2010 I had an amazing and unbelievably affordable experience with Ankle N Foot Centers (West Town) after fracturing my ankle while unemployed and uninsured (see story below). So based on my previous positive experience with Ankle N Foot Centers, I called Ankle N Foot Centers in the W Loop (close to work and home) to see about cost if I came in and paid out of pocket for an appointment, X-rays, etc. Just as I had experienced in the past they got me in right away (within 2-3 days) and their costs were upfront and totally affordable for someone paying out of pocket. About $400 for an exam, in office X-ray with almost instant images/results, cortisone shot, orthotics for my shoes and a follow up appointment. I saw Dr Holmbeck who was patient, listened, he was thorough with his exam and questions for me and just really nice. He explained that sometimes a second shot was needed as well as some ultrasound therapy if symptoms returned. I felt so much better within 48 hours after the shot. I did require a second shot about 6 weeks later and in office physical therapy for the heel (I know this was my fault for not heeding the warning about how bad flip flops are for your feet, especially when dealing with plantar fasciitis).Again, after the 2 be shot and first treatment out of 6 PT sessions I again felt great within 48 hours. This time I took their advice and swore off flip flops. By my 2nd appointment I had switched to a PPO with BCBS and my insurance was accepted by the office. During my visits for physical therapy Dr Holmbeck always came in to check in and ask about symptoms, results, and concerns. He genuinely took time once again to listen and answer any questions. On one occasion during PT Dr Hernandez was the doctor working that night. She also came in with my file, was informed on why I was there and asked and answered questions. Dr Hernandez also recommended a great brand of flip flops that did not look like old lady shoes which were also good for your feet. Bought 2 pairs on Zappos that night and they got me through summer without looking like I was wearing my grandmother's shoes and. The assistants who do the ultrasound therapy are so nice and professional, just really great guys. Chase at the front desk who handles scheduling and billing in the West Loop office is always awesome. He follows up when he says he will, works really hard to get you appointments that work around your work schedule. They have evening hours a few nights a week. The way this office is run and the treatment of the patients by the doctors should be a model for doctors everywhere. I am back to running, putting in more mileage than ever before and cross training with zero issues. This is all thanks to the doctors and staff at Ankle N Foot Centers. I first became familiar with the Ankle N Foot Centers about 6-7 years ago. While uninsured I tripped and hurt my ankle really badly in a class at the gym. I went to urgent care, they did X-rays and said it was just a bad sprain. 6-7 weeks later after being on crutches I was seeing no improvement. I called Ankle N Foot Center on Chicago Ave in West Town and Inquired on costs of services, etc if I came in to have my Ankle looked at. I was shocked at how affordable their services were considering I had no insurance. I saw Dr Elizabeth KurtZ. She is no longer with the practice because she moved out of state. They did X-rays in office that day for about $100 (compared to the $400 at urgent care just weeks before). Dr KurtZ discovered my ankle was actually not sprained but fractured in 2 spots. Urgent care never caught the fractures on their X-rays. Dr KurtZ and the staff at the West Town office took great care of me. I was given a boot to walk in for about 8 weeks. Afterwards I wore a splint/brace for about 8 weeks. I went in for check ups on progress throughout the time I wore the boot and splint/brace. Dr KurtZ really made sure I was doing well and progressing as I should be since I was up and around on the fractures for so long before discovering that was the real issue. My ankle healed beautifully and I have had no issues since. All in, the total cost to me without insurance for all services during the several months of treatment cost me less than $600. To me this was so affordable for the quality of care that I received and the excellent end results I had without having insurance at the time.

Following my husband's recommendation, I went to see Dr. Case. Her very first adjustment had me walking 90% better! I was amazed! Because of a lung surgery I had some weaknesses and was more easily injured, so I came regularly and Dr. Case's adjustments helped to build me back up. Fast forward a few years... I feel strong and I no longer have regular back pain. We're still coming in for tune-ups. My husband has referred many of his coworkers here, and they keep coming back. Dr. Lazar is wonderful too. "Universal health" means health for everyone, regardless of income, race, gender, sexual identity, etc. Which is far from the truth here. It's clear UHI only caters to the top 1% of our population. If that's you, then please, go to UHI for treatment. You are who they are looking for! I'd compare this company's ethics to someone more like Donald Trump, than say a supporter of universal healthcare like Bernie Sanders. But sort of a reversed Donald Trump? Like Donald Trump says he'll pay his construction workers, then doesn't. UHI says you don't owe them anything, then they harass you with bills and gaslight you into thinking your consistent experience w being misled about costs doesn't matter. One more comparison for the road, in hopes that I can make my experience more clear to the administration: it's like Starbucks saying you can come in for a free drink, then they send you a bill for that "free" drink months later.

IF YOU HAVE A PAINFUL NEUROMA in your foot. This one is for you!…read more TLDR:: Dr Usman is Seriously Amazing. Extremely comprehensive and did not rush AT ALL. The wait and the 4 hour drive to see him was WELL worth it. My story; For more than two years, I lived with constant pain from a Morton's neuroma. What started as occasional discomfort gradually became something that affected nearly every part of my life. Simple things most people take for granted became difficult. Walking my dog, standing in the kitchen to cook dinner, shopping, traveling, and even getting through a workday were painful. At night, I would often lie awake because of the burning, tingling, and electric shock sensations shooting through my foot. I honestly felt hopeless. I constantly googled, ChatGPT, researched on line and did so much. Over the years, I saw multiple doctors (1 sports medicine MD, 1 orthopedic doctor and one podiatrist l) and tried just about everything that was recommended. I went through custom orthotics, physical therapy, shoe modifications, several cortisone injections, and alcohol sclerosing injections. While some treatments provided temporary relief, the pain always returned and returned with a vengeance! Eventually, I was told by my local doctor that surgical nerve removal was likely my next option. The idea of surgery, recovery time, and the possibility that it still might not solve the problem left me feeling extremely discouraged. That's when I searched and emailed Dr Usman (used the main email which his staff forwarded to his direct email). He replied so quickly to me even though I was not an official patient of his! I immediately scheduled an appointment with Dr. Usman. From my first visit, I felt that my concerns were genuinely being heard. Dr. Usman took the time to review my history, explain why previous treatments may not have worked, and discuss all available options. One treatment we discussed was cryosurgery (cryoablation), a minimally invasive procedure designed to treat my painful nerves by using extremely cold temperatures. After a few weeks later, I was cleared for the procedure and the procedure itself was so much easier than I expected. It was performed in his extremely clean and Beautiful office. During the procedure at several points he made me felt very comfortable and checked up on me and explained in detail what he was doing. He made a very small pin point entry point in my foot and did cryosurgery for my neuroma! I had no large incisions or stitches. I was able to walk out of the office afterward wearing a comfortable surgical shoe. About 1 week after the cryoabalation of my neuroma, I woke up, stepped on the ground with my bare feet and I had ZERO pain. For the first time! The pain that had controlled my life for years finally began to improve. Today, about 6 weeks later, I am back to doing the activities I had given up. I can walk longer distances, enjoy social events, and spend time with family without constantly thinking about my foot. The sharp burning, walking on a rock pebble and electrical sensations that once dominated my day are no longer part of my everyday life. No treatment is right for every patient, and everyone's results are different. However, if you have been struggling with Morton's neuroma, have tried multiple conservative treatments, or have been told surgery is your only remaining option, it may be worth learning more about cryosurgery/cryoabalation and discussing whether it is appropriate for your situation. I only write this review to help those out there still struggling like I was. For me, finding Dr. Usman and Michigan Avenue Podiatry Clinic was a turning point. After years of frustration, I finally found relief and was able to get back to living my life. If you're on the fence about seeing Dr Usman for your foot problems.
