It was 32 feet tall and was topped by a lantern. An old photograph shows it had a black base and white upper half. In 1930 or so, with not much commerce here to protect, the lighthouse was relocated to the grounds of the Olcott Yacht Club. It remained there until 1963 when it was dismantled. This new replica was constructed in 2003 based on those photographs. A full scale replica, it remains today on the shore and not on a pier. The interior is open with the ground floor a bunch of displays with some historic photos and a lot of brochures of Olcott area accommodations and attractions. The current structure is a replica that was built by the local community group. It is easily accessible, a short detour of the Lake Ontario State Parkway that follows the shore. The original light was built at the end of a 1000 foot pier that extended into the lake. It was destroyed by a winter storm. This new structure is on land and there is plenty of parking for the marina and the small park. The park has a public restroom and some picnic tables. It's next to the Old Orchard Creek boat ramp. The lighthouse was closed when I stopped by at 6pm on a weekday but I understand that it does open for tours. [Review 1411 of 2024 - 415 in New York - 22434 overall]

The First United Presbyterian Church, now located at 9675 Main Street, in its 150th year erected this plaque for the Historical Society of Clarence." The town of Lancaster is actually huge, covering a big chunk of Western NY below Clarence, to the East of Depew and Cheekgtowaga. Its police force are absolutely awful, stopping you for anything and everything (even things you didn't do) to make revenue for the town. It contains the Village Of Lancaster, which is a cute and much smaller little place. When you're out in Lancaster, try eating at Good Tymes South, they have excellent burgers, and the Yelling Goat has some great Ethiopian Wings and all of their food is downright excellent. They have pretty tall people too, which is probably why it's known as Lankycaster.
