This Walmart in Monroeville,AL used to be pretty decent but over the past couple of years it has…read morefallen off and recently after the layout change and added self checkouts it has slipped even further. You are extremely lucky if there are two cash registers open at the same time. They are forcing people to use the self check out and that's not fair, especially for the elderly who have trouble with it. The lines are usually really long and it's to no fault of the cashiers. My wife and I have no problem using the self checkout but do not want to use it when we have a full basket due to the limited space to pack the items. (Plus we feel that we shouldn't have to pay and do the job of Walmart) They do have people stationed at most of the self checkout spots but not all of them are helpful and some are inattentive and grouchy. (Usually the younger ladies) We also feel bad for the older women who have to stand there at the self checkout lines for long periods of time. I'm all for a new layout/look but this one seemed to have been designed by someone who does not shop for themselves. I understand that they may have moved things around in order to get customers to travel past products that they normally wouldn't pass but now I hear senior citizens complaining about having to go from one side of the store to the other for things they didn't have to do that for before the changes. There is always a lot of workers in the isles picking groceries using those huge things that are in the way of customers finding stuff. Not their fault but some of them are a bit stand offish. I'll end with my biggest pet peeve which is the person who wants to check my receipt as I leave the store. (I don't always remember to not put it in my wallet. When the one or two lines that are open are so long that we are forced to use self checkout there are times when we hit the button for a receipt and it does not come out or it says out of ink or paper. The young people at those stations are usually on their phone pretending they are on the Walmart site. When we do get their attention they can't help us so we have to go without the receipt and when asked for it at the door it feels as if we are not believed. The irony is that we often see people in the self checkout who either know or are related to the young ladies stationed there and they are talking with them while the customer scans in every other item and bag them, get the receipt and happily go on their merry way. We go to Piggly Wiggly and Red & White more now.

I recently visited Customer Service. A person was having…read moreproblems with their return, so we waited. I asked why not open another register. I was ignored by the employees. The customer making the return apologized. I told them that it wasn't their fault, but managements fault. They had three other registers not being used. Five employees were gathered around one register trying to solve the problem. Come on people, open another register and move the line along. MONROEVILLE HAS THE WORST WALMART EVER ! ! ! !

Went there on a windy day with hurricane Sally on our heals. Nothing bad to say about the store…read more Compared it to our hometown store and Greenville was better maintained.

This store is has been going downhill for a while now and seems to be increasing it's downward…read moreslide. Went by yesterday to get some groceries and needed to use the restroom. The stalls in the front of the store were simply gross...water standing around the commodes, wet paper hanging over the seat edges, unflushed (clogged?) toilets, toilet paper strewn across the floor. I then went to the bathrooms in the back of the store which are usually better and they were just as bad...more clogged toilets and nastiness. The bad thing is that while I was in the bathroom in the front of the store there was an employee drying his hands...makes me wonder if he didn't mess the toilet up with the wet toilet paper draped over it. Okay, so I got the nasty toilet part covered. Another thing is the "pick-up shoppers" and "stockers"...if you didn't watch out they'd run over you...they literally didn't care. It's more like employees at the Greenville store just want to get time on the clock and get a check...no incentive, no customer service, rude, etc.,. I can't say that it's all the employees' fault...management is responsible for the employees attitudes and customer relations. I would say that management at the Greenville store has failed miserably. Anyhow, the next thing was at check out. Btw. there were several things that were out of stock. Anyhow, at the self checkout one of the "guards" that gives the customers doing *their* work the evil eye came up and looked into my cart and walked away and started talking with another "guard" and a cashier. I had a case of beer and, of course, when I scanned it the stopped further scanning and turned the yellow light on about the terminal. I stopped and waited for one of the "guards" to come and swipe their card or whatever. Nobody came. The closest guard was only about 10-15 feet away from me talking to the others. Nobody came. I finally said loudly "MAM!!!!"...and pointed to the yellow light. One of the guards walked over and started typing in stuff on the terminal...seemed like it took longer than usual and a lot more keystrokes. Not saying anything nefarious was going on, but it did make me a tad suspicious. Anyhow, we finally got checked out and left the building. None of the Walmart employees ever acknowledged our presence with a simple "Hi!" or anything...it was like we didn't even exist to them. This is a strong reflection of management. And I say this from a point of running a operating a wholesale/retail business for over fifty years. We're from out of town so have to drive 20+ miles to get to the Greenville store. We've about decided to quit driving to Greenville for *anything*. Other towns actually have more to offer...more restaurants, more shops and businesses, etc.,. As for Walmart, the stores in the other towns we go to have, in the past, been much better than the Greenville store...stocked shelves, courteous employees, clean restrooms, etc.,. It's almost like Greenville is turning into a third-world city...and the Walmart there is leading the way.
