I have to be honest. I didn't had the best start at ST. As with SJSU, I won't review the…read moreenvironment. So I just list the pros and cons. Pros: - Teachers that really helped through this high school were Ms. Rice, Mr. O'brien, Mr. Shank, Ms. Martinson, and Ms. Milner (who doesn't work here anymore). - The Key club, Anime club, Interact Club, and Camp Everytown club were very welcoming. - I was able to take a school bus to the high school from where I live. Only for students with disabilities though. Cons: - The counseling was horrible. They had me started in both ESL and Special Ed courses for my first year, which I felt that I did not really need to be in. This made me behind a year from my class. Also, they made it hard for me to switch around my classes. - I couldn't take enrichment for some of my courses during the summer because they were not offered due to the budget cuts. Community college was the only option. - Writing Tutoring was hard to come by. - Math Tutoring was only available on certain days when the teacher was available. - The library was often close. So I had to study in one of my teachers' classrooms. - Having your ID out on your neck was mandatory. - The alternate schedules where you didn't know when you are going to have a certain class during that day. Overall, it was a okay school. I only made connections with a few people after the 2009 graduation.

If I could give it zero stars I would. While I was there the school would call my house EVERYDAY…read moresaying I wasn't in one or more classes BUT I WAS and so I got yelled at every single day because of their lack of paying attention.

It's interesting to note how I just mentioned "our family" in reference to ACDS, because it's true - from the start it never felt like it was just my daughter being welcomed into a classroom. My husband and I were also ushered into a community of parents, children, teachers, administrators, and staff that truly are a community. This sense of familiarity and care, right from the start, was welcome. We looked at ACDS for my daughter after having been with a couple of other schools in the region that seemed to emphasize academics above all else. Academics are of course important, but I also wanted my daughter to have the chance to play and explore other possible interests. ACDS has a full complement of enrichment and extracurricular activities. Science, art, drama, music, you name it. There's a choir and a band. And every year every grade puts on a theater production, which I'm hoping next year can be done in the brand new Event Center. When school closed for COVID in March of last year, ACDS was ready for it. They moved their entire educational program online within a matter of 3 days, and it has been going strong ever since. When the school reopened for in-person learning in the fall, they continued the remote learning option alongside it. My daughter is presently the only child left online in her class, though she will be returning to school next week. Her teacher has been in close touch with me to make sure that she feels included and supported. The real gift is that my daughter has felt she is an active and important part of the community no matter where she physically is in relation to the school. And speaking of the teachers, wow! Dedicated and enthusiastic sound cliche but I assure they are not. The thought and energy they put into their lessons, especially even across two learning platforms, is phenomenal. If they had a high school, I would be planning to send my daughter. But for now I will just enjoy the stellar preparation she is getting for whatever step she chooses next.

Unfortunately, they do not live out their promises to develop the whole child or at least not with every child. There is a nationwide mental health crisis and this school's answer is to hire unqualified teachers to play the role of school counselors. In the middle school there are a large number of kids coming out of TLC with complex learning needs and no learning specialist? So, they respond by punishing kids as often as possible with frivolous write ups and suspensions. My kid was unhappy by the end of their 8th grade year, scared of teachers and emboldened administrators, and we couldn't do anything. They were heartbroken to see how many of their peers cowered and just tried to get through the day and not get written up.

I accidentally went the wrong way, but there's no signs or anything painted on the ground to tell me I was going the wrong way. Some other car honked at me, then blamed their horn, and I couldn't reverse down what seem to be the one way road. I really wish they would've painted the road so I would have known ahead of time or at least had signs up letting me know ahead of time it was a one-way. Field is rather nice for football. Granted it's right next to the freeway so I really worry about the children/students exposure to gas and smog pollution. But this particular time we were inside for the wrestling tournament and they had five mats out in their gym. They also had two different Locker room areas for the students and a pretty decent PA system for the announcements. They also had a separate student center area where they were selling food. Everything was hot and fresh and the wrestling tournament went rather fast considering I've been to seven of them, and they all seem to take hours, this one was actually done around 4 PM! We got there at 6:30 AM, so I was really happy. I wasn't there until midnight like I was For the Santa Cruz tournament. Lol.

I remember like it was yesterday when I went here running on the track around the school for cross country, but it has literally been a decade since I've gone here. Forming a team to spend a day in a tent on the track supporting Relay for Life with friends and strangers. I could remember dressing up for physical education through the purple doors with our lockers. Girls on the right side and boys on the left. Lining up on our numbers while Mrs. Staggs or Mr. Coleman or Mr. Carroll did attendance then telling us to go run the "Carroll Run" around the perimeter of the black top, to the track, the grassy area, and back to the beginning. I remember hanging out in the "quad" area with the cool kids during breaks and lunch. Getting in line for food right after we got out of class into either the cafeteria or outside to get snacks. It was really the carefree times. Many people may think Davis isn't a good school based on what they've heard, but teachers are wonderful. They really try to help you succeed and prepare you for high school. Many good and bad memories with great teachers here. Counseling and office staff were friendly. I was even was counseling assistant for a semester for Mr. Delcrew. I remember having Mr. Nichols/Mrs. Meier for language arts. Mr. Conwell for keyboarding class. Mrs. Williams for cooking. Mr. Morgan for piano. Mrs Lawrence/Mr. Weiler for science. Mrs. Flores for social science. Mr. Hughes for pre-algebra. Mrs. Bierman for algebra. Mrs. Shilov for history. Mrs. Perry/Ford for reading. Plenty of teachers I remember, but surely don't remember me since it has been 10 years or might not even be at the school anymore. I even remember getting detention for the most idiotic thing. It was a time when we weren't allowed to wear gang colors blue or red (probably worse now with all the mayhem happening or same rules apply), but also not allowed to have logos or pictures on our shirts. I had a baby blue shirt on with an angel in the center. I had to go to the office to change into a rather large ugly lost and found shirt. Embarrassing. Disgusting. Fun times. Worse memory was stopping class for several periods to watch television in class while 9/11 happened in New York. It was just a shocking and devastating moment in our lives. Overall, I miss it! Back in the day when we had no worries. Now from time to time, I utilize the track running.

At the last minute they pulled the rug from under our feet and put us on a waitlist. They kept on leading us to believe that our child's admission was pretty much done. I interacted with multiple folks in their office but later realized they enrolled more number of students than what they can actually intake and then they put you on a waitlist. They do a decent job of selling their institution. Well it was an unpleasant learning experience for us as they did not make it transparent! Anyways we were unceremoniously added to a waitlist. After a few weeks they emailed us that a spot had opened up. I enrolled my child as I was still interested. Within 2 weeks of enrolling we found that their after school person does not work collaboratively with parents or maybe works selectively with some parents based on her liking them or not. We requested a couple of small requests related to how much time she shows movies for kids in the aftercare. She works with an attitude of "my way or the highway!" In other words large part of the after school care is spent every day in movies - maybe 60 mins or maybe 90 mins! We do not know why the school does not hire a more energetic person to lead the after care program who is interested in providing kids more activities and NOT JUST MOVIES! If you want an environment that does NOT support your child's growth through the day in the school where they spend most of their day then this is the place for you! We withdrew our child and went elsewhere. The principal who joined in 2025 summer, is very approachable/ pleasant/ positive person and a solution finder but in this case she was not able to help us either!

Her grade was not good, school did not helping, told to get tutor outside. When the second grade teacher reported about her problems, she kept her eyes rolling, the way she did made me felt she looked down on us. One day, my daughter was supposed in infront of the class to speak about famous character, she supposed to wear costume, but I did not buy it on time. The teacher called to send her home at 11:00 am without letting her to stay and learn performance from other kids. Teacher said no need, " I will send you the video of others", but, I had not received any video. This is called discrimination or what? Why she not allow her to stay and learn. And that was it, I changed school. This school I had to pay money, returned nothing. My daughter had much help and improvement when she went to Rocketship. They can provide one on one help, later group help. They use different method somehow my daughter grade went up, no more plugging hair, no more stressing movement. She is fine now with As abd Bs. Again, this school is not for slow students, they don't have patience to deal with them. Period.
