The museum contains several dioramas, three-dimensional replicas depicting scenes from the life of Lincoln. These include his boyhood cabin home, him on his way to propose Mary Todd, his senatorial campaign debates with Stephen Douglas, and him and Mary at Ford's Theatre. The best thing to see here are the two statues at the historic town square next to the museum. The Abraham Lincoln Statue, a six feet tall bronze statue, features Lincoln sitting in an Empire style chair on a marble foundation. It was built to commemorate the centennial of Abraham Lincoln's birth, and the official dedication was on May 31, 1909. Facing the statue on the other side of the square is the statue "The Boy Lincoln." Lincoln is depicted shortly before his 8th birthday, on his family farm, reading from Webster's Spelling-Book, with his dog Honey, whose broken leg he splinted. Boy Lincoln's stick-fishing pole is leaning against the tree trunk. The wax figures of the dioramas are effective and fun way to learn history. Otherwise, if you already know the main events of the life of Lincoln, the museum does not offer much to see. It works better for schoolchildren to teach them about Lincoln. The Abraham Lincoln Birthplace National Historical Park, also in Hodgenville, is much more impressive place to see and visit.

Conveniently located near to the Lincoln Birthplace and Boyhood Home historical sites, the Lincoln…read moreMuseum is a small museum with dioramas and other historical artifacts that give a very high level overview of Abraham Lincoln's life. This museum has a pretty great gift shop, which you can get into for free. You can pretty much find any trinket you could possibly be looking for with Lincoln on it. The museum itself costs $8 for adults. I estimate that the museum takes about 45 minutes if you don't linger at everything. The entire first floor of the museum is dioramas with mannequins (maybe a little bit creepy) that tell the story of Lincoln's life from childhood to death. The upstairs includes more exhibits with historical artifacts. Some of the Lincoln mannequins were gone from their dioramas when we visited, which was a bit of a bummer. The staff were very friendly and helpful. They were full of information about the local historical sites and pointed us in the right direction. Convenient parking out front. The Lincoln Museum is very close to the Birthplace and Boyhood Home sites, so you might as well stop by if you're already going to those, but you maybe don't go out of your way to come to just this museum.

This drugstore has been here in Hodgenville for longer than I have been alive. It is locally owned…read moreand operated. So yes please shop and support local merchants! They have taken such great care of me here. They are way more efficient than the major chain pharmacy retailers. They know your name and they fill your prescriptions quickly and accurately with a minimum of wait. I had used a major chain retail pharmacy and they messed up all the time, even with 48-72 hours notice. But Smith's has my prescriptions ready to go with minimal interaction and no delay. Even if my physician puts in a new prescription when I am at an office visit, Smith's generally has it ready before I can even drive home. Smith's notifies you via text if you opt in when your prescriptions are ready and you can request refills online too. I very highly recommend them!

I recently started work on a chicken coop. This necessitated me buying metal roofing and sheeting…read more Dutchman Metal was recommended to me by a builder. Upon arrival, the showroom was hopping! It was very busy. Phones were ringing incessantly. It became immediately clear that this business had earned and enjoyed a very large customer base. Despite the business, it did not take long before Nathan joined me at the counter. I presented a picture of what I was trying to build and asked him to help me lay out the job. For the next hour, he meticulously went through each phase and plane of the project. He calculated all my metal, j channel, corner pieces, capping and flashing. We figured out colors and trims and he even took care to make sure I had the correct color screws for each of the different colored areas. After working through the whole project based on a picture, he wrote me a very concise and complete cost for the whole project. I was not ready to purchase that day, but I was given an order number and an invoice. Nathan told me that when I was ready, I could call in and get the order cut. He asked for a day's notice on the project. Three days after my first visit, I ordered my metal as Nathan had recommended on my quote, and I picked up my order over the weekend. They loaded the entire load with a winch and sling. We backed under it and that was all it took. They lowered it into the bed of the truck. Prices were AMAZING! The metal was well packaged and secured against both wind and wet. Loading was a breeze! The metal was cut accurately when it came home. Overall, this was a pleasant shopping experience. They cut metal for roof and siding applications. They also have an old fashioned style hardware store. This is at least a second generation family business. I highly recommend them for all your construction metal needs. Parking is ample. Restrooms were in good order and clean.

He sang and shared anecdotal stories sprinkled with humor, as well as playing banjo, guitar, flute, harp, and violin/fiddle. Park rangers and volunteers were all welcoming and helpful with directing visitors. Park ranger cadets were helpful with assisting attendees who needed help with toting coolers or camp chairs. Highly recommend visiting.

It was thunder storming and lightning abound when we arrived but cleared up during our stroll through the memorial and the visitor center. There is a longer path to the side of the visitor center where it's all covered by trees so we didn't get rained on. Inside the memorial is the replica of the log cabin where he was born. That closes at 4:30pm, whereas the visitor center closes at 5:00pm. I made sure to stop at the sinking springs next to the memorial for the watering hole where Abe took his first drink of water. It felt very cold in that area compared to the humid weather surrounding it. Very cool. So glad we made a stop here on our roadtrip!

Burkmann Nutrition has a store in Lebanon and Danville. This is pertinent to the Danville location…read moreand pictures are from that location. I have been to this location in Danville and have never been dissatisfied. Nestled in a little valley beside a railroad track, this is a quintessential farm store. They literally have a "little bit o' ever'thing" as they'd say in Kentucky. Hopefully the pictures I take speak for themselves, but let me detail some of the things I find attractive about this store. First, they have a drive through. So you can pull into the warehouse and get your feed loaded without ever leaving the vehicle. This is a nice convenience. Secondly, customer service. I have always been greeted when entering the store and I have never asked for help, that I didn't get someone to do so. Recently, when asking about flea and tick medicine, the sales floor employee verified with someone else that her answer to my question was correct. I appreciated that she had the humility and the diligence to verify her information before giving me wrong information. Selection of inventory is another great aspect of this business. They have an extensive pet food department, even producing their own brand of quality dog food! They have en extensive selection of flea, tick and worming medicines for house pets. This is the place to find pet toys too! Pets are welcome on a leash. In case you do decide to take your dog, they have a dog wash on location with a free wash program after every so many washes. You can find a large selection of muck boots for all your farm chores. In the side room, you will find all kinds of merchandise pertinent to bovine and equine farming. From feeders to wormers to tack, to fencing supplies, there is a large assortment of items relative to large animal husbandry. They even have a refrigerated medication section in the back room. Overall, this store is definitely one to put on your list of places to shop If you are a farmer, horse owner or pet owner. This establishment also sells wild bird seed for all the amateur ornithologists who love feeding the birds. Try their "no squirrel blend", which is treated with cayenne pepper to repel squirrel consumption! Overall, the store is very clean, well lit, and laid out sensibly. Parking is ample, just watch for those working through the drive through. The restroom is rudimentary, but functional, and it is always clean. Prices are competitive. Outside behind the building you can find feeders, stock tanks, and rolled hay mangers. This store is located in a quiet section of town, with easy access for ingress and egress. As a Yelper, I can honestly say that this is a store I frequent and will continue to do so.
