We had the Mero (grouper)with seafood sauce. The fish was so fresh. The sauce was light and flavorful with clams and shrimp - lovely potatoes accompanied. Also had the sea bass which was excellent. Desserts - flan, cheesecake, apple tart a la mode, and the best torta de Santiago (almond cake). It was the restaurants version of this typical regional cake. I was honored to meet Dory who was the person responsible for this delectable sweet! The owner of this family owned establishment, Alfred, was charming and could not have been more accommodating.

The first time I think I have had octopus was just the previous day when in Bilbao in a great pintxos/tapas place - check out my review. However, not sure if it was how it was cooked but was not keen on it here. It was the texture - a bit slimy. I thought it may have tasted like squid which I really like. Other than the octopus, we had some a monkfish salad, sardine pie, calamari, mussels and we ordered some extra potatoes. The salad and sardine pie were OK, I can't even remember the calamari so can't have been that good (or bad) but the mussels were really nice - lovely flavour. The potatoes which came with the octopus (and the extra ones) I thought were undercooked. If it was just the food, I would be tempted to rate this 2/5 (or 2.5 if I could) but the service was good. The waitress who served us spoke English so was able to explain the menu. While we were eating we spotted a dog in the restaurant - guessing it belonged to the restaurant. It was looking downstairs which I think was the storeroom - and it appears where they were preparing the food and bring it upstairs to be cooked. Must have been tempting for the dog to go down the stairs and eat all the food!!

These guys are great. First, unlike a lot of places (that…read moreleave their doors open all day) there is not the perennial cloud of flies indoor - love that. Second, the owners are three brothers. I got one of them who waited on us - he was dressed casually, but it was clear that he had been trained elsewhere as he was spot on. Third, and the reason for 4 stars, when I informed of spouse and offspring's difficulty with gluten he not only informed her of what food choices would work, but also BROUGHT OUT THE RECIPES so that she could read them and confirm. This is no Angry Chef where it's "His way or the highway"! But wait, I gave 5 stars - why? We left a small bag in the restaurant by accident. Our guy remembered that we had mentioned that someone had recommended them to us. He called them up and they called US to let us know that we'd left our bag there. Never had that happen before - pretty cool, huh? Pizza was great as was their chicken - don't be confused by the Americanness of the descriptions. These were Spanish adaptations.
