    Excellent food and wine. We were 11 and we were very satisfied. The attention was excellent by the personnel. Amazing!

It's also easy to get to - just a couple of short blocks from the main square (the one with the Obelisk). I have never had Octopus so tender and flavorful. The generous portion comes with potatoes, crusty bread and a starter for 20 Euros. Also enjoyed a couple of glasses of Estrella beer - so refreshing. Also recommend the Scallops and the Prawns. The tour had mentioned that octopus is one of the most beloved dishes in A Coruña, so I knew I had to try it. But where? I turned to Yelp and searched for the best octopus nearby. My answer appeared almost immediately, A Taberna de Cunqueiro, just a five-minute walk through the enchanting old town, boasting nearly a 5-star rating with 37 reviews. When we arrived, the place was packed, buzzing with locals and tourists alike. Just as I was scanning the room, probably looking a bit lost, a friendly waitress caught my eye. With a big smile and a cheerful "hola," she seated us right away. She went above and beyond, recommending the best tapas selections to start, and before we even had a chance to order, she brought over a warm bowl of potaje and jamón ham con pan--such a thoughtful touch! We ordered two refreshing local draft beers, Estrella de Galicia, and dug into the delicious appetizers. The casa croquettes, Iberian ham, small scallops, and of course, the Galician octopus, were all simply amazing. Each bite was a true taste of Galicia's culinary brilliance. After a second round of beers, we were so stuffed that we had to call it a day just as they were preparing to close at 2:00 PM for their lunch break. This spot has an amazing vibe and you can tell it's one of the locals favorite as it reas full of young people adding to the energy. This place quickly became one of my favorite while in A Coruña and merits multiple visits. Did I also mention that owner was in the kitchen making sure this packed place functioned like a well oiled machine. The vibe is so authentic, the staff are incredibly friendly, and the food? Unforgettable. I couldn't even imagine giving anything short of 5 star review definitely be back next time I'm in town!

We sat inside the enclosed area in the plaza, which is also good for large parties. As with most restaurants directly on the plaza, the prices are a bit higher than one might expect for this area of Galicia, but the quality of the food is outstanding. We were brought some crackly, fluffy Galician bread, which is impossible not to pick at, while we decided what to order. We ordered both a bottle of wine and sangria. As someone who is particular about sangria, I was very impressed at how well the it was mixed. It was less punchy and sweet than some sangrias, but retained its fruitiness and was very refreshing. For appetizers, we shared the pimientos de padron which were cooked to absolute perfection. It made me miss the home cooking that I once got to enjoy. In this batch, there were no hot surprises but the peppers were crispy without being soggy and perfectly salted. We also shared the croquetas de bacalao, which were some of the best I've ever had. There was so much bacalao in them and the outside of the croquetas retained their crispiness without the insides getting mushy. For a main course, I had the merluza. The best part of going to Galicia is access to seafood where the fish were caught earlier that day. The merluza was so fresh, and the red sauce it is prepared in did not overpower the fish. The portion was quite generous too - I had leftovers, which I shared with the rest of my table. By the time we had dessert, the only option available was ice cream. (There is a much better ice cream shop about a 5 minute walk away.) It would have been nice to try the Tarta Santiago or one of the other homemade desserts.

The area has recently received a bit of second (or third) lease of life, so it's actually nice to sit outside watching people. The restaurant inside is rather nice, albeit not in any sense budget! Mainly, this is due to the menu consisting of extremely good fish and seafood (just have a look at what's on display: it is truly excellent). There's also meat, but we didn't have any (although it has to be said that steaks being served on other tables looked very nice). We had grilled squid and scallops as starters. The squid were ever so slightly charred, but tasted fresh and were quite light (there's a trend in flooding them in oil, and here, this was not the case). The scallops were OK, but nothing more. They tasted like nice, fresh scallops (and I mean zamburiña, the baby variety, not to be mistaken with vieiras), with a bit of oil and lemon juice. I had grilled salted cod with pisto and spuds. Pisto is some sort of Spanish ratatouille, but it amounted to a bunch of finely cut veggies tossed in a pan. The cod, on the other hand, was superb: mildly crisp on the outside, but with clear and juicy flakes oozing moisture. Absolutely delicious. The desserts were good. Lemon cream was some sort of lemon mousse with a few berries floating about. Overall, a very good place to eat. Fairly expensive, but then you're getting top fish and seafood. The place is stacked with wine bottles, so I'm guessing that the wine list is also extensive, although didn't have wine. The place is fairly small (hardly a dozen tables), being quite intimate and also resembling a rather traditional drinking den. They also serve some fancy bread, which I wasn't too impressed about but people seemed to enjoy a lot too.
