Absolutely lovely to sit out there on a summer afternoon. I hear the stout is good but we were stopping for a snack for the drive. Special that day was a Kerry lamb based Shepards Pie that was delicious. The flavor of the lamb was well balanced and not at all overpowered by the sauce. We also tried out the soup special, Potato and Leek, which everyone found very tasty. Overall the menu is rather simple but the specials I would say are a hit. Vey pleasant and worth a stop on the way West.

The pie of the day, not on the menu, was steak and kidney, which I had to try "for research purposes". The pastry crust extended to the sides and bottom so it fully enclosed the filling and was served "freestanding". Crust and gravy were excellent. In the filling, both the steak and the kidneys were plentiful. My research completed, I probably wouldn't order it again; just give me the steak - no more kidneys please! Nevertheless I did enjoy and finished it. This was served with decent fries and a truly excellent green salad: a variety of leafy greens, radishes, cucumbers, pickled onions, and pre-dressed with a vinaigrette. The wife had the Beef & Guinness Casserole, served with brown bread. Along with steak there were also plentiful veggies (root vegetables and celery) and mashed potatoes in the center. She liked it. I tried it and agreed. I would get that next time. I had a Jameson Old Fashioned to drink and it was the best Old Fashioned I've had in some time. The unusually large twisted orange peel probably contributed and it may have had more than the customary amount of bitters. The wife's tea was amusingly served with a knitted "cozy" keeping the teapot hot. For dessert we shared a Sticky Toffee Pudding, served with vanilla ice cream, attractively presented with a dusting of sugar, whipped cream, and a ground cherry complete with its leaves. I'd rate it second among the three I've tried so far. Would certainly order it again. As for the pub I can't say. It has a reputation for good traditional Irish music every night but unfortunately not until 9:30, way too late for us. Sadly we're just not pub people.

We popped in after dinner and bellied up to the bar only to be passed over multiple times by the bartenders. They clearly saw us, even made eye contact at times, but just kept moving, taking orders of folks who walked up to the bar well after we had sat down. It was the strangest experience of bar service we had experienced in Killarney. Once the bartender actually acknowledged us, she was friendly. We got our drinks and moved to the front room where they had live music. We finished our drinks, enjoyed the music and called it a night after one pint. The space has all the character of an old Irish pub and we had high hopes for Courtney's, but sadly it was the one negative experience on our trip. Overall, disappointed. Enjoyed the pint and the space is cool, but we wouldn't recommend as a "must do" on a trip to Killarney.

Many tourists have been back and forth that road since then but the pub, attached to a hotel, is not doing at all badly, though you'd have thought the maintenance work, which put the outside benches out of commission, going on this week would have been done at the start of the season. Killarney was very busy and there were quite a few in Mollys in mid-afternoon, some snacking, some drinking and some doing both. We were met by a smiling waiter on the way in and ordered coffees which were brought to our table. The coffee was better than average and top-ups were available. We enjoyed our interlude there.

While enjoying some lovely Guinness, we had succulent burgers and/or lamb stew. The meat was so tender, flavorful. The clientele was very "American," and it attaches onto a hotel, so at first, I thought it would be a tourist trap. But I loved it. Great food, great service, great music, great craic!
