Great and friendly service. Food really stinks. I think they know it, but they don't care which is really embarrassing if you're running an establishment that offers food. Extensive drink menu . Everything we ordered we left on the plate. Our server was good about it, but didn't refund anything. €90 down the tubes . Never again. Taught my kids a lot about Irish pubs and now they never wanna go back to one again. Great work if you're trying to run a business into the ground. read more

The best--and I mean BEST Irish lamb stew ever. It made me sad. I don't think I could ever make it this good. We had a delightful evening. Service was great, people were friendly. Drinks were great, lots of options, reasonably priced. The Mister had a hamburger and said it was excellent. The crowd was a fascinating mix--college students, people our age, the retired crowd. Dropped in on the way to Italy and after a long drive through southern Germany. Nice ambiance, quick and friendly service. If I studied in Freiburg, I'd probably be a regular there. All in all it is worth a visit. read more

This pub could not be more authentic... For an Irish pub in Germany that is. Smells like an Irish pub when you walk in and has a familiar feeling right away. Love the woman we spoke with upon arriving, very friendly and outgoing, in that particular Irish way and with her lovely Irish accent. The service was fast and friendly and the food was very good, above average experience for sure. We went for their American Thanksgiving Day buffet and it was really good. Done well and from the heart, and it showed. What a wonderful gift to be able to have a proper TDay dinner, here in Germany, in a great Irish pub. O'Kellys is a decent Irish pub and the better of two in Freiburg. Guinness is expensive here, as it is most places, and unfortunately it's not an amazing pint (in line with what I've had most places in Germany), but still decent. The food you get here is also nothing to write home about -- the standard pub grub for okay prices. Service can range from fairly friendly to somewhat grumpy and inattentive depending on who's working. They have an open mic on Thursdays but it's pretty weak. The people who are there are not there to listen to music, and so you have the feeling you're just embarrassing yourself for no reason. Some people who go on play for a long time, too. If you want a good open mic, go to the Wheit Rhaebbit on Wednesday nights. Really, probably the only reason O'Kellys is a better Irish pub than Isle of Innisfree is that it's more of an actual Irish pub -- it's got that cozy feel and it's full of expats. It's not a great place for dinner and it's not good for a date. But then again, nobody expects that from your average pub. It's a decent Irish pub, and most of the time, I suppose it's what you would expect when you walk into one! EDIT Oct. 4th, 2010: I came here again recently for dinner and a few pints with a friend of mine. It was earlier in the evening, the place was mostly empty. And I realized that I do like this place. The shepherd's pie was decent and hearty, as it should be. The pints were good, and I realize better than many other places in Germany. It's fun to have an all-Irish or almost all-Irish staff that stays there, and the service was fairly friendly. The TVs were a bit too loud, I suppose. But most importantly, I keep coming back here. The best nights are- Monday night The Best Pub Quiz in Town. No, really! (their words not mine!) O'Kellys Pub Quiz begins every MONDAY night at 21 uhr, with Neils (Ze Pilsman). Nightly prizes of a crate of beer are awarded or Shoot high for the Monatspreis! There's so much free booze and prizes being doled out for the quiz winners that O'Kellys is considered a welfare state Thursday: The Open Stage: Not just voices only mothers could love! Open Stage is your chance to be almost as cool as Bono. The only difference is, Bono is in the most successful rock band of all time. O'kellys claim to offer an amazingly close second, on Thursday nights, at O'Kellys You get your chance to grab an axe and plow your way into (almost) Rock History. Go round and astound them with your tunes. Crooners, do not miss this. You provide the tunes. they provide a cold bottle of Freiburger. I used to come here a lot, it is a nice pub in a good location. However, I will no longer be a customer here as I find the people who work there arrogant, unfriendly and impolite. I have witnessed their backstabbing behavior too many times now, they blatantly make fun of customers, they swear and curse when little children are around and some of the male employees are very, very unhygienic. It is a shame because the food looks great but their appearance does not make me want to eat there! read more
