The Quiet Man - St. Patrick's day

    3ème, Marais Nord, Arts & Métiers/Rambuteau, Marais

On my first day in Paris, I was dying for a nap after not sleeping on my overnight flight but 'how…read moreto beat jet lag' tutorials advocate staying awake until local bedtime. I knew I wouldn't be able to make it until my usual bedtime of midnight-ish (that's a liberal ish), but 9pm seemed reasonable. It was a chilly fall night and a pint of Guinness or two sounded like the ideal nightcap, err, sleep inducer. A quick search on my Yelp app and a brisk 10-minute walk later, I arrived at The Quiet Man. Like most bars in Paris, the Quiet Man is tiny... especially tiny, even. However, the diminutive size was far less intimidating than walking into a bar filled with loud, jovial men and only one stool to be snagged. I never took my eyes off it while waiting for my perfectly-poured Guinness and stealthily made my way over before pouncing: all mine! Over the next 2 hours, I 'met' the guys next to me several times (close proximity is a powerful instigator of friendship), pretended like I understood everyone's Fast french while nodding and smiling, was gifted a Guinness from one of my elbow-mates, and embarked on a deep and lengthy political conversation in English with a 60-ish Frenchman who had previously lived in London and Dublin (sidenote: this convo took place right before the U.S. presidential election and everyone and their far-removed cousin expressed interest in hearing my opinion). A couple of Guinness later, I was sufficiently spent. And this cool unassuming dive, like its friendly patrons, won't be soon forgotten. PS: There's nothing quiet about the Quiet Man ;)

Unbelievably awesome bar... Music downstairs, meat & guinness on top. Best bar in Paris...fact!read more

This place was great! Decoration was modern and cocktails were magnificent! I really loved the…read morebartender because he was very professional and prepared some snacks for us too. Staff was very friendly and multilingual! To me music was very loud, because I had to shout to my friend who was sitting next to me. Also they played rock music from eighties and that's not my cup of tea either... But the prices were cheap for Paris standards and if you are staying at Le Regent Montmartre, you have extended happy hour! I already recommended this to my hostel room mates.

Awesome, fun, young, new bar at Montmartre. Montmartre isn't where I usually head for drinks, but…read morethis place is worth a detour! As posted in previous reviews, this bar is right next to a youth hostel, hence the name and the theme for the decor in the pub. Nothing but chill vibes here and awesome delicious beer on tap! I was presently surprised by the selection of beer on tap, which included brew dog punk IPA, vedette blanche, chouffe, etc. the menu is subject to change but HH is until 9pm and you can get pints from 3-5€!! After HH, prices still remain extra reasonable and cheap and only go up to around 6.50 max a pint. (Which let me remind you, is still super reasonable for a pint of craft beer in Paris!). Staff were super friendly and helpful, and a shot was offered with a check in on Yelp. My only gripe would be that they advertise a rather full food menu, including pizzas and planches, but when it came down to it, they didn't have any food left when we got there!!! Say what? It was early, like 8pm on a Friday night when we tried to order and we were told all they had left for the entire bar were 3 pizzas. Lol. (Which was totally not enough food considering we were a bigger group). And we couldn't even get all the pizzas at the same time, since they only had one smallish microwave oven and it would be an hour wait for the 3rd pizza. Say what? How is this happening? To top things off, pizzas were pretty pricey considering that they were just cheap sodebo or knockoff pre made pizzas and tasted a little like plastic. Any who, imma let that slide cuz otherwise this bar was awesome. They need to either work on their food game or otherwise just not advertise that they offer food so that ppl can plan accordingly. But considering the awesome drinks and happy hour, I'll definitely be back again!
