On a Saturday afternoon I was invited to take a little trip to Granite City. Since I had never been before I couldn't resist. The menu is not a great reason to visit for someone who doesn't eat tacos; however, when I found out they had margarita's I knew I'd have a good time. Upon arriving I noticed how much of a "hole in the wall bar" this really was. It is located in a random neighborhood and I think it was the only bar around for miles. In fact, I think it might be the only bar in GC! The inside does not allow smoking which was pretty great for me. There are some pictures on the walls and they do have a few tv's to show games if needed. By the looks of this place I assume it has been around for quite some time. It has a good vibe to it though. I'm sure I'll go back next time I get invited. They have a small kitchen in the back, a mid sized bar, and restrooms are located down the hall. When we arrived we were able to find a table that had room for all 6 of us. An order was placed for the guys to eat some tacos and then the bartender began working on my margarita with a salted rim. The service was pretty great and my drink was perfectly mixed. I even had another once the first was gone. By the time the tacos arrived the guys were pretty hungry and 30 tacos seemed to disappear pretty fast; but before they could dig in I requested to take a photo so that I could document the amount of tacos! I mean, I have never in my life seen that many tacos on one plate before. Crazy! They even provided some pico de gallo for dipping. By the sounds of the tacos were enjoyed by all. I asked for reviews and they were all in agreement that these were some pretty great tacos! Overall, this was a pretty fun trip. The guys enjoyed their tacos, I enjoyed my margarita, and we all enjoyed the company! This is a fun spot and I can tell that a lot of regulars go here. The servers all knew their customers and it seems like a pretty great bar if you are ever in the area!

I met my now exgirlfriend there and won her over with a match of thumb wrestling. (she always won) The house Bday shot is the 3 wise men. I don't recall which nights but through the week they have $1PBR drafts, $5 PBR pitchers, and $2PBR bottles. Now don't start thinking I'm some South City Hipster. They serve this beer because it's cheap not trendy. The place is smaller than most would be used too. In the front it's just a bar with like 3-4 tables you can sit 4 people at each. With a bar you can fit maybe 15-20 people. The line for the bathroom works like clock work! The back room where the bands play is very large, while the stage is small, Singers usually on the floor in more than 3 piece band. They have a great Reggae night, as well as some great local bands that play as well. Muddy pub books a wide array of musical acts so there isn't really a set genre. The real action to me even now that I'm a non smoker, is out front of the muddy pub, nothing beats standing around the front door, talking to random people, and watching the people bar hop around the block of 3rd street Alton that is like a mini St. Louis Landing. One of my favorite all time bars for sure!

This is a bar I've been dragged to way too many times and for reasons I still don't understand. If…read moreit's up to me, I won't be back again. It has a basic problem that there's no good place to sit anywhere if you have a group of friends with you. Assuming there are seats open at the bar at primetime, when you most want to be out drinking (and that's a big assumption because there probably won't be seats open), your group is spread several people wide and not everyone can hear everyone over the music and other people. You want to be in that room because it's where the beer is, and where most of the people are, but it's hard to hang out in there because the space is too narrow and awkward. Then of course because you're having to stand behind your friend who's sitting at the bar, you're constantly moving out of the way of someone who's in line for the bathroom. The upstairs is never open (that I've seen), so forget about that. Then, on the ground level past the room with the bar and bar stools, you've got the big open room with ample tables and seating where they put bands. Whenever a band is there, the band usually sucks, so it's no fun to sit there then. Whenever no bands are there, the room is too dark and empty to hang out in and not feel like a weirdo. Or they turn on the light and then it's too bright. You're never in the sweet spot when you're in that room, with the right amount of lighting and non-shitty music. Ironically, the best place to hang out at Big Muddy is outside the back door of the bar. Sometimes you can get away with taking a drink out there with you, and it can be fun to stand there and look at what's left of downtown Alton's industry. But I find it funny and telling that the best place to hang out is not actually part of the business. It's just a place where people stand when they go to Big Muddy because the bar itself isn't much to speak of, and yet all your friends want to go there anyway, so you can't just leave without having a drink.

The bar itself is gorgeous and the selection of drink drinks and what they have on tap is more than I've seen anywhere else. The service is pretty much immediate, the mixed drinks are fantastic (and I am very finicky about my mixed drinks), and the food....OMG THE FOOD! I really don't like burgers, but the person I was with got a burger and it was amazing and insisted I tried it and let me tell you, it was the best freaking burger I've ever tasted my entire life! I went there a second time, on a Saturday night, and it was very busy, but service was still very quick, my mixed drink was perfect, music was great, but not too loud where you couldn't hold a conversation and they even had security! At a bar/restaurant on Main Street in Collinsville!! as a tiny little female, who happen to be there with her tiny little female family member, I felt super safe and had a great time! So if you're looking for somewhere to go eat, I suggest Sloans, (I just found out they did brunch on weekends and I can't wait to try that, plus they have a full Lent menu, so no having to search while I'm allowed to eat on a Friday right now!). And if you're looking for a place to hang out and have a good time, while still feeling safe, with good service and good drinks later on in the evening, go to Sloan's!

Craft Beer - Chicken Wings - Tots…read more I'm a fan of Global Brew Tap House. In my opinion, they have the best wings in Edwardsville and beyond. I've tried multiple sauces and cannot pick a favorite, because they all make my tastebuds dance. Pairing the wings up with a cold craft beer and a side of tots makes for a great lunch, a treat for Happy Hour and a super dinner. I am a stickler for the quantity of my flats and drums being the same and GBTH always serves me matching numbers. The wings are always good sized, crispy and meaty. Again, they are the best wings I have had on the Eastside of the Mississippi. This August they are doing, Pawgust. When you buy a craft beer from Alaskan Brewing Co. a $1 from ever beer goes to Gateway Pet Guardians. I drank an extra beer on my last visit and I will make sure to go back a couple more times during August. I like it when I can eat, drink and raise monies for a dog charity all at the same time. I always sit at the bar and the service is attentive and friendly. If the bartenders are friendly, I can only assume the table servers are equally as good. If you want wings and a craft beer, Global Brew is where you need to go.
