Probably one of the best music stores I have ever been too, Gibert stocks a staggering selection of…read moremusic from France, Africa, Britain, America, and well beyond. Located near St Michel metro, the store is very close to the Latin Quarter as well as the Jardins de Luxembourg. Dealing in more than genres, Gibert has the ability to find you browsing for hours as you move from Reggae to Rock to Avant-Garde to Celtic to pretty much anything else. But it gets even better, as they also stock a lot of very well-priced 2nd-hand music and also deal in hard-to-find music magazines (such as Punk Planet) at very reasonable prices. Worth setting aside an hour or two for during your visit to Paris if you can, Gibert is one place you'll remember fondly long after leaving the city.

I only went there for the VINYLS! They have a box in the…read morefront of the store 0,50 euro any vinyl. The box is updated every few hours. Inside there are about 24 drawers with vinyls but NO order, NO specific category, but they add the new arrivals every few hours. The vinyls have small white labels with the date of entering the store and the price. Inside the store only the PROMO drawer has vinyls at 0,50 euro. The prices of vinyls from the other drawers are from 1 euro to 10 euro (most are over 3 euro), but there are only used vinyls, most of them with classical music (walses, opera, concerts) or french music. I spent few hours today browsing EVERY vinyl and I can say there are few american vinyls, most french or french edition or french music. I was lucky to find Sam Brown "Stop" single and Sandra "Maria Magdalena" single. There is also another section with 45 RPM singles at 1 euro piece. I could see a clerk labeling the fresh-received vinyls with a label gun. He brought the vinyls every hour and put them in the "NEW ARRIVALS" box. The CDs are sealed with some transparent tape and there was a tentative of alphabetical order (you could see some names, letters) but the chaos was the best word to descriebe that area. The plastic bags for the vinyls/books/etc are free :D

Mostly second hand or ..."vintage" it is a great shop. The owner is a very friendly guy, dog on the sofa, very bad record players with headphones that suck big time....so? They also sell tickets and have photography services. My favorite departments are music and books which seem to be difficult to find in a store today. They have a large music department that includes every genre from around the world. They have both CDs and vinyl. FNAC also has a large assortment of books in many categories. I'd avoid buying any brand name MAC stuff here (tres cher) but found a good workaround and got great advice from staff who were very welcoming and seem to take pride in what they do. Every visit we find numerous resources and we used to carry them home until the luggage was just getting unmanageable, shipping is so much easier. Isle after isle, bookcase after bookcase of both everyday publications to hard to find gems, they have them all. One visit a trip is never enough, we have a two visit minimum whenever in Paris. Fortunately they is a nice little cafe across the street for me to get refreshed while my chef partner spends a few hours reviewing all they have to offer. Simply a wonderful escape for a couple hours!

The CD lives!…read more Record stores with this much charm are rare. This shop is a heaven for music lovers and throwback officianados. Walls and walls of CDs and records surround you in visual organized cacophonic bliss. Also has a lovely book collection with a sweet owner who sits peacefully at the front if the shop to greet you and is not a pushy salesperson at all. Enjoy! It's a rare piece of charm and history.
